Yale VSM Safety-Check Valves

700 bar | For Applications Where Pressure Drops Must Be Avoided | Two Models: VSM-11 and VSM-21

The Yale VSM range provides safety-check valves rated for 700 bar, used for applications where pressure drops (such as holding of a lifted load) must be avoided. Yale supplies two models: the VSM-11 for direct screw-in to a cylinder oil port (working as a hose-break fuse), and the VSM-21 for combination with VHP directional valves.

Prevents pressure drops on lifted loads

Yale documentation describes the VSM safety-check valves as used where pressure drops must be avoided. The VSM-11 can be directly screwed into the oil port of a hydraulic cylinder and works at this location as a hose-break fuse. The VSM-21 design is suitable for combination with VHP directional valves and at that location ensures pressure is held precisely with no drops caused by operating the directional valve.

Suitable Applications

Per Yale: VSM-11 for safety-critical lifting where a hose burst would cause uncontrolled load drop. VSM-21 combined with VHP directional valves on power packs for precise pressure holding. Operation: after closing the relief valve (hand wheel), the cylinder advances via the by-pass. In direction to the cylinder, valves always have free flow. The built-in check valve ensures a pressurized cylinder is held precisely in stop position. A smooth lowering speed is adjusted by opening the throttle valve (hand wheel). A safety pressure valve protects the cylinder from being overloaded by external loading.

Key Features

  • Two Models: VSM-11 for cylinder oil port; VSM-21 for VHP valve combinations.
  • 700 bar Maximum Operating Pressure: Yale standard.
  • Built-In Check Valve: ensures pressurized cylinder is held precisely in stop position.
  • Adjustable Throttle Valve (Hand Wheel): smooth lowering speed adjustment.
  • Safety Pressure Valve: protects cylinder from overload by external loading.
  • Free Flow Toward Cylinder: no resistance during normal pump-up.
  • 3/8 NPT Connections: Yale standard hydraulic interface.

Technical Specifications

Maximum Operating Pressure 700 bar
Dimensions (both models) 75 x 25 x 100 mm
VSM-11 Cylinder side: 3/8 NPT outer; Pump side: 3/8 NPT inner; 0.9 kg - for direct cylinder mounting
VSM-21 Cylinder side: 3/8 NPT inner; Pump side: 3/8 NPT outer; 1.0 kg - for VHP valve combinations

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: VSM-11 or VSM-21 - which do I need?

Yale's selection advice: if the valve is to be screwed directly into a hydraulic cylinder oil port (hose-break fuse), order VSM-11. If the valve is to be combined with the directional valve of a power pack, order VSM-21.

Q: How does the lowering speed adjustment work?

Yale documents that a smooth lowering speed is adjusted by opening the throttle valve (hand wheel) to relieve pressure. The check valve provides hose-break protection during normal operation.

Q: Does the safety pressure valve protect against external loading?

Yes. Yale specifies the safety pressure valve protects the cylinder from being overloaded by external loading - providing protection against unexpected impact loads beyond the cylinder's rated capacity.
