Yale YL LHP ATEX Low-Headroom Hand Chain Hoist with Integrated Push Trolley

Model YL LHP ATEX 1000 | Capacity 1,000 kg | ATEX II 2 GD C IIC T4 | Zone 1 / Zone 21 | Ultra-Low Headroom | Spark-Resistant Bronze Wheels

The Yale YL LHP ATEX is the explosion-protected, ultra-low-headroom push trolley hoist, certified for use in Zone 1 (gas) and Zone 21 (dust) atmospheres. This unit combines three specialist features in a single integrated assembly: the patented 360ยฐ rotating hand chain guide from the Yalelift 360 hoist; the specially developed LH lateral chain reeving system that gives the smallest possible closed headroom; and full ATEX certification with bronze trolley wheels, copper-coated hooks, MKS micro corrosion protection, and rubber buffers as standard. The YL LHP ATEX is supplied at 1,000 kg capacity in Size A (60 to 180 mm beam flange) as the standard specification, addressing the relatively narrow band of applications combining ATEX requirements with both push trolley operation and ultra-low headroom. Other capacities and beam sizes are available on request as special-order configurations.

ATEX II 2 GD C IIC T4 | CE & UKCA Marked | EN 13157 | LOLER Ready

Yale is a registered trademark of Columbus McKinnon Industrial Products. This product is certified for use in potentially explosive atmospheres under EU Directive 2014/34/EU and 99/92/EC, marked ATEX II 2 GD C IIC T4 (suitable for Zone 1 gas and Zone 21 dust atmospheres, gas group IIC, temperature class T4 = 135 ยฐC maximum surface temperature). The hoist is CE marked (EU Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC), UKCA marked (UK Supply of Machinery (Safety) Regulations 2008), manufactured to EN 13157 and ASME B30.16, and is supplied with a Declaration of Conformity, ATEX certification, and proof test certificate. LOLER 1998 thorough examinations are required every 12 months by a competent person after initial certification.

The YL LHP ATEX is supplied at 1,000 kg in Size A as standard. Other capacities and beam sizes are available as special-order, contact our team for specification and lead time. HIGH design (with stainless steel load chain) is supplied with reduced capacity, contact us for specification.

Key Features

  • ATEX II 2 GD C IIC T4 certified: Suitable for Zone 1 gas and Zone 21 dust atmospheres, gas group IIC, maximum surface temperature 135 ยฐC.
  • MKS micro corrosion protection system: Two-coat treatment combining Delta-Protektยฎ KL100 basecoat (zinc/aluminium flake cathodic protection) and Delta Sealยฎ topcoat (chemical-resistant microcrystalline finish).
  • Copper-coated suspension and load hooks (MEDIUM design): Soft copper coating prevents spark generation if hooks contact ferrous structures.
  • Solid bronze trolley wheels (MEDIUM and HIGH design): Non-sparking bronze wheel construction for safe operation in explosive atmospheres.
  • Stainless steel load chain (HIGH design): Optional upgrade for the most aggressive ATEX environments. HIGH design models supplied with reduced capacities.
  • Rubber buffers as standard: ATEX trolleys include rubber buffers to control end-of-beam contact without spark generation.
  • Compliant with EU Directives 2014/34/EU and 99/92/EC: Full ATEX compliance for European explosive atmosphere applications.
  • Ultra-low closed headroom: Lateral chain reeving pulls the bottom hook block almost against the beam flange, giving the smallest possible Dim. A even within the ATEX range.
  • Push travel: Operator pushes the load along the beam by hand. Simple, lightweight, no trolley hand chain required.
  • Patented 360ยฐ rotating hand chain guide: Operator can apply force from any angle, keeping clear of the load path.
  • All three specialist features in one unit: ATEX certification + low headroom + 360ยฐ rotating hand chain guide, combined in a single integrated assembly.

Suitable Applications

The YL LHP ATEX addresses the specific intersection of three requirements: explosion-protected environment, low-headroom installation, and push-trolley operation. Typical applications include compact ATEX-rated plant rooms (chemical, pharmaceutical), low-clearance areas in offshore oil and gas modules, refinery process areas under existing pipework, and any tight space in a hazardous environment where a geared trolley would be overkill.

How to Use the Yale YL LHP ATEX Low-Headroom Hand Chain Hoist with Integrated Push Trolley

  1. Verify the ATEX zone classification: Confirm the unit's ATEX marking (II 2 GD C IIC T4) is suitable for the zone, gas group, and temperature class of the work area.
  2. Verify beam compatibility: Confirm beam flange width (70 to 180 mm) and thickness (19 mm max) are within the trolley's rated range.
  3. Adjust the trolley side plates: Adjust to match the beam flange using the supplied adjusting nuts.
  4. Fit the trolley to the beam: Open, position over the beam, close and tighten adjusting nuts to specified torque.
  5. Verify ATEX safety features: Anti-drop bolts, anti-tilt devices, rubber buffers, MKS coating, copper hook plating, and bronze trolley wheels must all be in good condition.
  6. Pre-use inspection: Visual check of load chain, hooks, housing, hand chain, trolley wheels, beam contact, and rubber buffers.
  7. Engage the load and lift: Use ATEX-rated lifting accessories. Lift using the hoist hand chain.
  8. Traverse by pushing: Push the load along the beam manually. Avoid impact with end stops or beam discontinuities.
  9. Position and restrain: Push trolleys do not hold position automatically. Physically restrain at the stopping position.

Warning: Yale hoists and trolleys are not designed for passenger elevation applications and must not be used for this purpose. Never use the trolley in zones, gas groups, or temperature classes exceeding the ATEX marking. Push trolleys do not hold position automatically.

Safety Information

  • Verify beam flange width and thickness are within the trolley's rated range before each use.
  • Verify the supporting beam structure is rated for the combined hoist plus full WLL load.
  • Confirm anti-drop bolts and anti-tilt devices are present and operational before lifting.
  • Never exceed the Working Load Limit stamped on the hoist body.
  • Beam end stops must be fitted at both ends of the travel range to prevent trolley runoff.
  • Never side-pull or angle-pull the load at the suspension point.
  • Keep all personnel clear of the load travel path.
  • Ensure adequate headroom for the loaded hoist plus chain travel.
  • Remove from service immediately if chain elongation exceeds the discard criteria in the Operating Instructions.
  • LOLER 1998 thorough examination required every 12 months by a competent person.
  • Verify ATEX marking matches the work area zone classification.
  • Use only ATEX-rated lifting accessories.
  • Push trolleys do not hold position. Physically restrain at the stopping position.
  • Beam profile must be level. Push trolleys are not designed for sloping beams.
  • Maintain the minimum clearance between hoist body and beam flange during operation.
  • Damaged ATEX coating, hook plating, or bronze wheels must be assessed by a competent person.

Inspection and Maintenance

The YL LHP ATEX requires the same routine maintenance as the YL LHP, plus regular checks on ATEX-specific components (MKS coating, copper hook plating, bronze trolley wheels, rubber buffers). Use only ATEX-compatible lubricants. Damaged components must be assessed by a competent person, repair may require manufacturer authorisation. WOLFF Onsite provides full ATEX-compliant inspection, spare parts, and overhaul services.

Optional Accessories

  • HIGH design upgrade: Stainless steel load chain. Supplied with reduced capacity.
  • Adjustable overload protection device: ATEX-compatible slip-clutch overload limiter.
  • ATEX chain container: Compatible chain container.
  • Beam locking device: ATEX-compatible beam locking device.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Why is the YL LHP ATEX only available at 1,000 kg?

The standard offering reflects the relatively niche combination of three specialist requirements (ATEX + low headroom + push trolley). 1,000 kg is the sweet spot of demand. Other capacities (500 kg, 2,000 kg) and Size B beam range (180 to 300 mm) are available as special-order configurations, contact us for specification and lead time.

Q: Should I consider the YL LHG ATEX instead?

Possibly. The YL LHG ATEX (geared) is available in 500, 1,000, and 2,000 kg standard capacities and adds precise positioning, no-creep operation, and suitability for sloping beams, all valuable features in ATEX zones. Use the LHP ATEX where push operation is preferred (simpler, lower cost) and the application is a level beam with manageable load weight.

Q: What's the temperature class T4 mean?

T4 means the maximum surface temperature in operation will not exceed 135 ยฐC, suitable for atmospheres where the ignition temperature is above 135 ยฐC. This covers the vast majority of industrial gases and dusts.

Q: Can I retrofit a standard YL LHP to ATEX specification?

No, ATEX certification is given at manufacture and includes specific materials (bronze wheels, copper hooks) and coatings (MKS) that cannot be field-fitted.

Q: How does the LH chain reeving work in an ATEX zone?

The lateral chain reeving system uses ATEX-compatible components throughout, including spark-resistant chain guides. All metal-on-metal contact is designed to prevent spark generation.

Q: How often does it need inspection?

LOLER 1998 (UK) requires thorough examination every 12 months. ATEX-specific inspection additionally checks coating integrity, hook plating, bronze wheel condition, and rubber buffer condition.
