Slings

Webbing, round or chain

Webbing and round slings are light, economical and gentle on painted or machined surfaces, but they cut easily and are damaged by heat. Chain slings tolerate heat and abrasion, can be adjusted for length, and can be repaired component by component — which is why they cost more initially and often less over time on heavy repeat work.

Sling angle

The wider the legs of a multi-leg sling, the greater the tension in each leg. Rated capacity assumes the angle marked on the tag, so if your lift uses a different angle the capacity changes. Manufacturers publish reduction tables — use them rather than estimating.

Colour coding

Duplex webbing slings follow a colour convention by capacity, which is a useful quick check. It is never a substitute for reading the tag, which carries the actual rating and traceability information.

Common questions
What do the colours on webbing slings mean?

They indicate capacity by convention and are a useful quick check. Always confirm against the tag, which carries the actual rating.

How does sling angle affect capacity?

Wider angles increase the tension in each leg, reducing the safe load. Use the manufacturer's reduction table for the configuration you are actually lifting in.

When should a webbing sling be replaced?

On any cut, tear, abrasion through the protective sleeve, chemical attack, heat damage, or if the tag is missing or illegible. Webbing cannot be repaired.

Which brands do you stock for Slings?

We supply Plumalti, Conquip, Wolff Onsite, Cobra Grade 10 and LiftKing. Ranges vary, so check the brand page for the full listing.
