The Plumalti 8 Tonne Round Sling is an endless-loop lifting sling constructed from continuous strands of high-tenacity polyester yarn encased in a durable, colour-coded tubular woven polyester sleeve. Manufactured to BS EN 1492-2:2000, the blue-coded sling provides a Working Load Limit of 8,000 kg in a straight lift - rising to 16,000 kg in a basket hitch configuration. The endless tubular construction allows the sling to flex in any direction, conforming naturally to cylindrical, curved, and irregularly shaped loads. The protective outer sleeve shields the load-bearing polyester core from abrasion, UV degradation, and surface damage, while the soft material protects the load from scratching and marking. Blue colour-coded for instant WLL identification in accordance with the international colour standard. Each sling is individually serialised with a blue identification label. Available in effective working lengths (EWL) from 1m to 8m.

Heavy-Duty Round Sling Applications

1. Precast concrete elements - 8 tonne round slings handle heavy precast beams, columns, stair cores, and wall panels. The soft tubular construction protects exposed concrete surfaces and architectural finishes from chain marks and wire rope scoring.
2. Steel fabrication - plate girders, transfer beams, and large fabricated assemblies in the 6-8 tonne range are commonly lifted with round slings where the steelwork has been painted, galvanised, or coated with intumescent fire protection.
3. Mechanical and electrical plant - generators, chillers, air handling units, and transformers are often lifted by round slings at the manufacturer's requirement. Many plant manufacturers specify soft slings only to protect casings and connections.

Certification and Compliance

This product is CE marked in accordance with EU Machinery Directive 2006/42/EEC and is UKCA compliant for the Great Britain market. Manufactured to the performance requirements of BS EN 1492-2:2000 - the European harmonised standard for textile round slings used in general purpose lifting operations. Each sling is produced with a 7:1 safety factor, individually serialised, and supplied with full traceability documentation including an EC Declaration of Conformity. All lifting equipment used on UK construction sites must comply with the Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations 1998 (LOLER) and the Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998 (PUWER).

Safety Information

• Never exceed the rated Working Load Limit (WLL) for the selected hitch configuration. A choke hitch reduces the WLL to 6,400 kg.
• Inspect the sling before every use. Check the outer sleeve for cuts, tears, abrasion, and holes. If the inner core yarns are exposed, remove from service immediately.
• Do not use round slings on sharp-edged loads without protective wear sleeves - sharp edges can cut through the outer sleeve and damage the core.
• Do not knot or twist the sling to shorten it. Knotting damages the core yarns and dramatically reduces the WLL.
• Position the choke point at the natural 120° angle. Forcing a tighter choke generates friction that can damage the sleeve and reduce capacity.
• Do not expose polyester round slings to strong alkalis, concentrated acids, or temperatures above 100°C.
• Never stand under a suspended load. Maintain exclusion zones during all lifting operations.
• A risk assessment must be in place before any lifting operation. Operation only by competent persons trained in sling use and rigging techniques.

Inspection and Maintenance

Round slings must be visually inspected before each use and undergo a thorough examination at least every six months by a competent person under LOLER 1998. Inspection must cover the full circumference of the outer sleeve on all sides, paying particular attention to bearing points where the sling contacts the load. Key indicators of damage include: cuts, tears, or holes in the outer sleeve; exposed core yarns; lumps, hard spots, or unevenness in the core; abrasion wear or thinning of the sleeve; discolouration from chemical or heat exposure; and damage to or illegibility of the identification label. Any round sling showing signs of damage must be removed from service immediately. Round slings cannot be field-repaired - damaged slings must be cut and disposed of to prevent re-use.
