Model number reads as Capacity (tonnes) / Coil Width A (mm) โ€” e.g. TCK 2,0/500 = 2 tonne capacity, 500 mm coil width. C-hooks with automatic balancing device, alternative working loads and custom dimensions are available on request.

Key Features

  • Wide range of capacities and widths — 22 variants from 500 kg / 300 mm up to 10000 kg / 1500 mm โ€” match the model precisely to the coil dimensions.
  • Robust solid steel construction — Built for repeated industrial use in steel handling environments.
  • High-visibility yellow finish — Standard safety yellow for clear identification on busy industrial sites.
  • Forged and certified — Manufactured and supplied with appropriate certification for below-the-hook lifting.
  • Inner-bore lifting geometry — Hook arm slides through coil inner bore โ€” the load is supported by the coil itself.
  • Suitable for many cylindrical loads — Steel coils, wire rod coils, paper rolls, hose reels, cable drums, rings.
  • Automatic balancing option — C-hooks with automatic balancing device available on request for unevenly-loaded applications.

Suitable Applications

Steel service centres, coil storage and handling, wire rod processing, paper mills, hose and cable reel manufacturing, foundries handling annular castings, and any industrial application requiring safe overhead transport of cylindrical loads on an overhead crane.

How to Use the Tigrip TCK C-Hook

  1. Inspect the C-hook before each use โ€” check the suspension eye, hook arm, weld joints and load surface.
  2. Confirm coil width (Dimension A) matches the C-hook's rated width โ€” the coil must sit fully on the hook arm.
  3. Confirm coil capacity matches the C-hook's WLL.
  4. Position the crane hook over the coil and lower the C-hook so the hook arm enters the coil bore.
  5. Lift slowly โ€” the coil weight transfers to the hook arm as the C-hook engages.
  6. Transport the coil with minimum swing โ€” keep the load close to the floor where practical.
  7. Lower the coil at the destination and reverse the engagement to release.

Warning: The C-hook coil width (Dimension A) must match the coil being lifted. Lifting a wider coil with a narrower C-hook will overload the hook arm; lifting a narrower coil with a wider C-hook risks load instability and may exceed the hook geometry. Do not shock load.

Safety Information

  • Never exceed the rated working load limit (WLL) displayed on the equipment.
  • Never use the equipment if any component shows visible damage, wear or deformation.
  • Keep all personnel clear of the lifted load at all times.
  • Do not modify, repair or substitute components other than as specified by the manufacturer.
  • Ensure the operator is trained, competent and authorised for the lifting operation.
  • Do not shock load the equipment under any circumstances.

Inspection and Maintenance

Inspect before each use with particular attention to jaw faces, locking mechanism, shackle, hook and safety latch. Check for wear, distortion or damage to all load-bearing components. Thorough examination under LOLER 1998 is required at intervals not exceeding 6 months by a competent person. Use only genuine manufacturer replacement parts.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How do I select the right TCK model for my coil?

Two criteria: (1) capacity โ€” the C-hook's WLL must exceed the coil weight; (2) coil width โ€” the TCK's Coil Width A dimension must match the coil width so the coil sits fully on the hook arm. The model number tells you both: TCK 2,0/500 = 2 tonne, 500 mm coil width.

Q: What is the difference between Coil Width A and Usable Height B?

Coil Width A is the rated coil width โ€” the dimension along the length of the hook arm where the coil sits. Usable Height B is the available clearance between the hook arm and the upper part of the C-hook frame, accommodating the coil's outer diameter.

Q: Is the automatic balancing device available as standard?

No, it is available on request. The standard TCK C-hook does not include an automatic balancing device; the operator positions the C-hook centrally in the coil bore manually. For applications where the coil's centre of mass may be off-centre, the auto-balancing option can be specified at order.

Q: What materials can the TCK handle?

Steel coils (cold rolled, hot rolled, slit), wire rod coils, paper rolls, hose reels, cable drums and similar cylindrical loads. The plate hardness must be below HRC 30 / Brinell 300 for the surfaces contacting the hook arm.
