Yale YS Universal Hydraulic Cylinders

Single-Acting with Spring Return | 5 - 100 Tonnes | 700 bar | Yale ChroMo-Design

The Yale YS Universal range is a single-acting hydraulic cylinder family with spring return, designed in Yale ChroMo-Design across capacities from 5 to 100 tonnes at 700 bar maximum operating pressure. Yale specifies the robust construction with long piston bearings as designed to withstand abuse and tolerate eccentric and side loading, while remaining convenient to operate with only one quick-release coupler hose connection and a spring return.

Built for general assembly, repair and lifting applications

Yale describes the YS range as designed for all jobs where high forces but compact dimensions are required: straightening of steel constructions, removing of parts such as shafts and axles, lifting, positioning, weighing, supporting, testing, and all general assembly and repair applications. The various mounting threads on the cylinder collar, base and piston rod (5 to 30 t models) allow the cylinders to be installed in clamping devices, welding fixtures and frame presses.

Applications

Per Yale documentation: straightening steel constructions, removing parts such as shafts and axles, lifting, positioning, weighing, supporting, testing, and general assembly and repair. The mounting threads enable integration into clamping devices, welding fixtures and frame presses. The single-acting spring-return action suits applications where the load returns the piston under gravity or spring force.

Key Features

  • Yale ChroMo-Design: cylinder body and piston manufactured from massive chromium-molybdenum steel and heat treated.
  • 700 bar Maximum Operating Pressure: Yale standard high-pressure hydraulic working pressure.
  • Single-Acting with Spring Return: automatic piston return on pressure release.
  • Long Piston Bearings: robust design to withstand eccentric loading.
  • Hard-Chromium Plated Piston: with replaceable, heat-treated saddle.
  • Stop Ring with Dirt Wiper: bears full capacity and protects against dirt ingress.
  • Interchangeable Hardened Saddle: field-replaceable wear part.
  • Metric Mounting Threads: on cylinder collar, in base, and in piston rod (5 to 30 t).
  • 3/8 NPT Oil Port: Yale 700 bar standard interface.
  • CFY-1 Female Coupler Half Included: ready to connect.
  • Carrying Handles or Lifting Rings: YS-50/100 and YS-50/160 with carrying handle; YS-50/320 through YS-100/200 with lifting rings.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does Yale ChroMo-Design mean?
Cylinder body and piston are manufactured from massive chromium-molybdenum steel and heat treated, with a hard-chromium plated piston and replaceable heat-treated saddle.
Which YS models have carrying handles or lifting rings?
Models YS-50/100 and YS-50/160 are supplied with a carrying handle. Models YS-50/320 through to YS-100/200 are supplied with lifting rings.
Can a safety check valve be fitted?
Yes. The Yale VSM-11 screws directly into the cylinder oil port and works at this location as a hose-break fuse for applications where pressure drops must be avoided.
What female coupler is supplied?
Each YS cylinder ships with one CFY-1 female coupler half (3/8 NPT outer thread, 700 bar) and a CDF-9 dust cap.
What hydraulic oil should I use?
Yale specifies ISO VG 32 hydraulic oil. Yale's own HFY range covers this specification and is available in 1, 5, 10 and 20 litre containers.
What pump volume do I need?
The Yale catalogue includes a cylinder/hand pump selection chart. As a general guide, the pump reservoir volume should match the cylinder's full-stroke oil volume plus reserve. Refer to the model's oil volume specification.
