Pfaff-Silberblau EGU PS 14 Electric Pallet Truck

1,400 kg Capacity | Three Battery Configurations | CE Marked

The Pfaff-Silberblau EGU PS 14 is a 1,400 kg low-lift electric pallet truck for moving palletised loads over distances or up gentle gradients without the effort of pumping and pushing a manual truck. Electric drive (0.7 kW) and electric hydraulic lift (1.0 kW) are controlled from an ergonomic walking handle. Three battery configurations match the duty cycle โ€” Basic 70Ah lead-acid, Plus 65Ah Gel with AC drive, and Li-Ion 50Ah with rapid 2.5-hour charging โ€” all engineered and manufactured in Germany by Pfaff-Silberblau.

Key Features

  • Electric drive and lift โ€” 0.7 kW drive motor and 1.0 kW hoist motor, both controlled from the ergonomic walking handle. Operator effort is reduced to steering and direction control only.
  • 1,400 kg capacity โ€” covers nearly all standard palletised loads. The capacity is matched to the chassis size and battery weight; higher-capacity electric trucks (EGU 15E at 1,500 kg or fully powered counterbalance forklifts) are available where larger loads are routine.
  • Three battery configurations โ€” Basic for intermittent light-duty use, Plus for medium-duty, and Li-Ion for high-cycle commercial duty. The Li-Ion option supports opportunity charging (top-up charges throughout the shift) without battery memory effect, dramatically extending useful battery life.
  • 4.5 km/h loaded travel speed โ€” faster than walking pace, allowing the operator to keep up with the truck. Speed automatically reduced on cornering and during initial movement for stability.
  • Compact 720 mm overall width โ€” fits through standard 750 mm and 900 mm doorways. The 1,560 mm overall length is the same as a manual pallet truck, so it fits into the same working space.
  • Optional accessories โ€” horn, anti-roll-back on inclines (Plus and Li-Ion), automatic park brake on release of throttle, and side-mounted battery for easy access on the Plus and Li-Ion specifications.
  • Robust steel construction โ€” powder-coated steel frame, hardened axles, and an industrial-grade hydraulic lift system. Built for commercial use.

More About This Product

The Pfaff-Silberblau EGU PS 14 is a 1,400 kg low-lift electric pallet truck designed for the operator who needs to move palletised loads over distances or up gentle gradients without the physical effort of pumping and pushing a manual truck. The truck uses electric drive (0.7 kW) and electric hydraulic lift (1.0 kW), controlled from an ergonomic walking handle. Three battery configurations are offered to match the duty cycle: a Basic specification with 70Ah lead-acid battery and DC drive for light-duty intermittent use; a Plus specification with AC drive and 65Ah Gel battery for medium-duty work; and a Li-Ion specification with 50Ah Lithium-Ion battery and AC drive for high-cycle commercial duty with rapid 2.5-hour charging and 3,000-cycle battery life. Engineered and manufactured in Germany by Pfaff-Silberblau (Columbus McKinnon Group).

Where Is the EGU PS 14 Used?

The EGU PS 14 fills the gap between a manual pallet truck and a counterbalance forklift. Where the manual truck demands operator effort across the working day โ€” pushing 1.4 tonne loads is significant work over a shift โ€” the electric truck removes that effort. Where the counterbalance forklift is overkill (and may not physically fit into the working space), the EGU PS 14 is the right specification.

The Basic configuration suits operations that need electric assistance occasionally โ€” a few hours per day, with overnight charging covering the duty cycle. The Plus configuration is for daily multi-hour use with an overnight charge. The Li-Ion configuration is the right choice for continuous-duty operations: where the truck is in use across multiple shifts, where opportunity charging is needed to keep the truck working, or where the long battery life of Lithium-Ion repays the higher initial cost over time.

Distribution centres, retail backrooms with larger pallet flows, manufacturing receiving bays, and any operation moving palletised stock over distances greater than 50 metres routinely all benefit from the EGU PS 14 over manual alternatives.

Recommended Pre-Use Checks

  1. Visually inspect the forks, frame, and chassis for damage.
  2. Check the load rollers and steering rollers for free rotation.
  3. Check the battery state on the display โ€” recharge if below 25% before starting the shift.
  4. Test the lift and lower functions through full travel.
  5. Test the drive function in both forward and reverse at low speed, in an open area.
  6. Test the emergency stop button and confirm the truck stops immediately.
  7. Confirm the steering responds positively and the safety reversing button on the handle functions.
  8. Inspect the charging cable for damage and verify the charger functions correctly.
  9. Verify the data plate is legible.

Safety Information

  • Do not exceed the 1,400 kg safe working load.
  • Do not use to lift personnel.
  • Operators must be trained on the specific truck and certified on pedestrian-operated industrial trucks under PUWER 1998. Familiarity with manual pallet trucks does not transfer directly.
  • Travel at walking speed in working areas where pedestrians may be present.
  • The truck is designed for indoor use and indoor-grade hard surfaces. Outdoor use is acceptable on hard tarmac and concrete; not suitable for rough ground or wet gradients.
  • Lithium-Ion batteries must be charged with the supplied charger only. Do not modify the battery or charging system.
  • Charge in a well-ventilated area away from sources of ignition. Lead-acid batteries (Basic specification) emit hydrogen during charging.
  • Rated for ambient temperature -10ยฐC to +40ยฐC. Lithium-Ion battery performance is reduced significantly below 0ยฐC.
  • Inspect annually under PUWER 1998 and BGV D27. Battery condition should be tested at every inspection.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Which battery specification should I order?

For light occasional use (a few hours per day, single shift), Basic is sufficient and the lowest initial cost. For daily multi-hour use across a single shift, Plus offers better drive performance (AC motor) and longer battery life than Basic. For continuous duty across multiple shifts, or where opportunity charging matters, Li-Ion is the right choice โ€” 3,000 cycles versus 500 to 700 for lead-acid, and 2.5-hour charging versus 8 hours.

Q: What is the difference between DC and AC drive motors?

DC motors (Basic) are simpler and lower-cost but less efficient and slower to respond. AC motors (Plus and Li-Ion) are more efficient, have better controllability, and require less maintenance over their lifetime. For occasional use, DC is fine. For daily commercial use, AC pays back through reliability and reduced energy use.

Q: How long does a charge last in real use?

A full charge typically delivers 4 to 6 hours of mixed loaded and unloaded travel for the Basic and Plus configurations. The Li-Ion configuration delivers similar working time and can be opportunity-charged in 15-30 minute breaks throughout the shift without battery damage. For a single-shift operation, all three configurations are adequate; for two-shift operations, Li-Ion is recommended.

Q: Why is the Lithium-Ion battery only 50Ah versus 70Ah for lead-acid?

Lithium-Ion energy density is higher than lead-acid โ€” a smaller-capacity Li-Ion battery delivers similar working time to a larger lead-acid battery because more of the rated capacity is actually usable (Li-Ion can be discharged to 90%+ without damage, lead-acid to 50%). The 50Ah Li-Ion in practice delivers more usable capacity than the 70Ah lead-acid.

Q: Can I use it outdoors?

On hard, dry surfaces, yes. Wet conditions, soft ground, and rough surfaces are not suitable. The truck is designed primarily for indoor use; brief outdoor work on yard surfaces between buildings is acceptable. For sustained outdoor use, a different specification is required.

Q: Do operators need to be licensed?

Yes. Under PUWER 1998 and HSE guidance L117, operators of pedestrian-operated industrial trucks must be trained and competent. Most companies use the ITSSAR or RTITB pedestrian pallet truck syllabus, which covers a half-day to one-day course. The operator's employer is responsible for certifying competence.

Q: What about annual inspection?

PUWER 1998 annual thorough examination by a competent person. For electric trucks, this includes the drive motor, lift motor, controllers, battery, and charger in addition to the standard chassis and hydraulic inspection. For high-cycle use, six-monthly inspection is good practice.
