This product is manufactured by Columbus McKinnon under the Yale lifting brand to EN ISO 9001 quality management standards. Supplied with a manufacturer's test certificate and CE Declaration of Conformity. UKAS-traceable calibration certification is available on request at the time of order. LOLER 1998 thorough examinations are required every 12 months by a competent person, and annual recalibration is recommended to maintain stated weighing accuracy.

More About This Product

The Yale TKE Crane Weigher is a compact, professional-grade digital load weighing scale designed for in-line use beneath crane hooks, lifting beams, and overhead hoists. Combining a robust forged steel housing with a high-contrast LCD display and infrared remote operation, the TKE delivers ยฑ0.03% accuracy across its full measuring range and is built for daily use on construction sites, in steel fabrication shops, scrap yards, and manufacturing plants. Three capacity options cover 1.5 tonne, 6 tonne, and 9.5 tonne lifting applications. Manufactured by Columbus McKinnon under the Yale lifting brand, the TKE is supplied complete with a manufacturer's test certificate, internal rechargeable battery, mains charger, infrared remote control unit, and operating manual.

Suitable Applications

The TKE is suited to construction sites, plant yards, steel fabrication shops, scrap and recycling facilities, and manufacturing plants where load weights need to be verified before or during a lift. Typical uses include construction site load verification, crane operator training, plant and equipment weighing, structural steel section weighing, precast concrete element weighing, scrap weighing for billing, and in-process manufacturing weight checks.

How to Use the TKE Crane Weigher

  1. Charge the weigher fully before first use using the supplied mains charger.
  2. Attach the top shackle to the crane hook or lifting beam, ensuring the shackle pin is fully tightened and secured.
  3. Attach the bottom shackle or hook to the load, ensuring the rated capacity of the attachment matches or exceeds the load weight.
  4. Switch on the weigher using the power button on the display unit or the infrared remote.
  5. Allow the display to stabilise and zero the reading if required.
  6. If weighing the contents of a container, attach the empty container, then press the tare button to zero the displayed weight.
  7. Lift the load smoothly and allow the reading to stabilise before recording the weight value.
  8. Switch off the weigher after use to preserve battery life, and store on charge between sessions.

Warning:
Do not exceed the rated capacity of the weigher or its attachments. Do not shock-load the unit. Do not use the weigher if the display shows an error code or if the housing shows signs of damage. The crane operator must remain in full control of the lift at all times โ€” the weigher does not replace standard rigging and lifting procedures.

Safety Information

  • Ensure the operator is fully familiar with the weigher's operation and the supplied operating manual before use.
  • Verify that both the crane or hoist and the weigher are rated for the intended load.
  • Inspect the shackles, pins, and weigher housing visually before each use.
  • Ensure shackle pins are fully tightened and secured before applying load.
  • Do not exceed the rated working load of the weigher or its attachments under any circumstances.
  • Do not shock-load the weigher โ€” apply load smoothly and progressively.
  • Do not use the weigher in environments outside the manufacturer's stated temperature or humidity range.

Inspection and Maintenance

Inspect the weigher and its attachments visually before each use, paying particular attention to the housing, shackles, shackle pins, and the LCD display for damage or moisture ingress. Keep the unit clean and dry between uses and recharge the internal battery before storage. The TKE is supplied with a manufacturer's test certificate; LOLER 1998 thorough examinations are required every 12 months by a competent person, and recalibration is recommended annually to maintain stated weighing accuracy. UKAS-traceable calibration can be carried out by Columbus McKinnon or any approved weighing equipment calibration laboratory.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What is the accuracy of the TKE crane weigher?

The TKE achieves ยฑ0.03% of the full weighing range, which equates to approximately ยฑ0.45 kg on the 1.5 tonne model, ยฑ1.8 kg on the 6 tonne model, and ยฑ2.85 kg on the 9.5 tonne model. This accuracy is maintained throughout the certified calibration interval, typically 12 months.

Q: How long does the battery last on a full charge?

Approximately 40 hours of continuous operation. The internal rechargeable battery is recharged via the supplied mains charger. For continuous high-use applications, charge the unit overnight after each working day.

Q: What is the range of the infrared remote?

Up to 8 metres in clear line-of-sight conditions. If your application requires longer range, non-line-of-sight operation, or use through obstructions, the Yale TKI crane weigher with integrated radio remote control is the recommended alternative.

Q: Is a UKAS calibration certificate included as standard?

A manufacturer's test certificate is supplied as standard with every TKE. UKAS-traceable calibration certification is available on request at the time of order, supplied by Columbus McKinnon or an approved weighing equipment calibration laboratory.

Q: How often should the TKE be recalibrated?

Annual recalibration is recommended to maintain the stated ยฑ0.03% accuracy. LOLER 1998 also requires a thorough examination by a competent person at least every 12 months for any lifting accessory.

Q: What shackle attachments are supplied?

The TKE is supplied with grade 8 forged steel top and bottom shackle attachments matched to the rated capacity. If you require alternative attachments (for example a hook or a different shackle size), these can be specified at the time of order.

Q: Can the TKE be used outdoors in wet conditions?

The TKE is built for site use including outdoor environments but should not be exposed to standing water or continuous heavy rain. Wipe the unit dry after use in wet conditions and store indoors.
