The Conquip XXL Lifting Cage is a large-capacity lifting cage for transporting materials or equipment in a singular lift — one lift and one lift plan instead of multiple smaller lifts. Solid steel sides and a 5000kg Working Load Limit handle heavy, awkward or oversized items, with the large internal floor area taking up to six standard 1200x1000mm pallets per lift. Fold-down loading ramps support forklifts, telehandlers, pallet trucks and sack barrows, while tie-down points secure loads against shifting.

Key Features

  • Ramped access for loading with pallet trucks, sack barrows, forklifts, or telehandlers
  • Solid steel sides allow any material type to be transported without risk of items falling out
  • Tie-down points ensure heavier loads and machinery can be secured against shifting
  • Sizeable internal area able to fit up to 6 standard 1200x1000mm pallets per lift
  • Fork pockets for easy manoeuvre across short distances and on-site storage
  • 5000kg Working Load Limit covers heavy, awkward, or oversized items in a single lift
  • Fold-down ramps at the cage end provide smooth easy loading and unloading
  • Fewer lifts required to transport materials and equipment -- one lift plan covers what would otherwise need multiple lifts
  • Reduced number of lifts saves on crane time, limits downtime, and improves logistics flow on-site
  • No site operatives required to sling or "choke" individual items -- loose items are fully contained within the cage
  • Multiple cages stack when not in use, saving space on-site or in the yard

More About This Product

The Conquip XXL Lifting Cage is a large-capacity lifting cage designed as a safe and efficient method for transporting materials or equipment in a singular lift. Solid steel sides combined with a 5000kg Working Load Limit allow the cage to transport heavy, awkward, or oversized items to high or low locations on-site, in one lift and one lift plan -- a major time and labour saving compared to multiple smaller lifts. The large internal floor area accommodates up to six standard 1200x1000mm pallets per lift, or alternatively small machinery, bulk bags, and other oversized items, providing a one-stop lifting solution for a wide range of materials, equipment, and machinery. Loading is via fold-down ramps at the end of the cage, which support forklifts, telehandlers, cranes, pallet trucks, or sack barrows -- whichever method is most convenient on the source side. Tie-down points throughout the cage interior secure heavier loads and machinery against shifting during the lift. Fork pockets at the base allow easy manoeuvre across short distances and storage. Multiple cages stack when not in use, saving valuable space on-site or in the yard. With reduced lift counts comes reduced crane time, lower downtime, and improved logistics flow on-site -- all without site operatives needing to sling or "choke" individual items, since loose items are fully contained within the cage during the lift itself.

Suitable Applications

The XXL Lifting Cage is the workhorse tool for high-volume material movement on RC frame, infrastructure, high-rise residential, and commercial fit-out projects. Common applications include bulk pallet movement to upper floors, machinery and small plant transfer between site levels, bulk bag handling, and consolidated loose-item transport that would otherwise require multiple smaller lifts. For smaller volume work, the standard Goods Cage or Compact Goods Cage is more appropriate. For specialist content (rebar, glass, manhole rings), use the appropriate dedicated lifting tool from the Conquip range.
A goods cage contains loose material during a lift and gives one certified lifting point. It must never be used to carry people — see access cages and man baskets for that.

How to Use

  1. Carry out a pre-use inspection: ramps operate smoothly, cage integrity, tie-down points, fork pockets, structural welds, lifting points
  2. Confirm the cage's WLL of 5000kg is rated for the planned load (combined material + equipment weight)
  3. Position the cage at the loading area and fold down the loading ramps
  4. Load materials, equipment, or pallets via the ramp using forklift, telehandler, pallet truck, or sack barrow
  5. Distribute the load evenly across the cage floor to maintain balance
  6. Secure heavier loads, loose machinery, or unstable items to the tie-down points using approved lashing
  7. Fold up the loading ramps and verify they are securely in the closed position
  8. Connect the crane hook to the cage's lifting points via a four-leg chain sling
  9. Take the strain slowly and verify the cage is hanging level before completing the lift
  10. Position the cage at the destination, lower onto a level surface
  11. Once stable, fold down the ramps and unload via forklift, telehandler, pallet truck, or sack barrow
  12. When not in use, stack cages with the ramps secured for compact storage

Warning:
Working Load Limit of 5000kg must not be exceeded. Total lifted weight including the 1110kg cage is 6110kg -- crane capacity must accommodate this. Loading ramps must be fully folded up and secured before lifting commences. Heavier loads and machinery must be tied down to prevent shifting. Inspect before every use under LOLER 1998.

Safety Information

  • Working Load Limit of 5000kg must not be exceeded under any circumstance
  • Total lifted weight is up to 6110kg (5000kg load + 1110kg cage) -- verify crane capacity covers this
  • Loading ramps must be fully folded up and secured before lifting commences -- a partially-secured ramp can drop during the lift
  • Heavier loads, loose machinery, and unstable items must be tied down using approved lashing
  • Pre-use inspection required before every lift; thorough examination every six months under LOLER 1998
  • Cages with damaged ramps, deformed sides, missing or damaged tie-down points, or compromised lifting attachments must be removed from service immediately
  • Lifting must be carried out by a competent crane operator with a trained banksman or signaller
  • Crane operations must follow a documented lift plan
  • Loads must be evenly distributed across the cage floor to maintain balance during the lift
  • Do not stand directly beneath a loaded cage during lifting or placement
  • Stacked cages in storage must be on a level surface and secured against accidental movement
  • The cage is not certified for personnel transport -- use Access Cages for personnel lifts

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Why should I consider this cage?

It has a large internal space, fitting up to six standard-sized pallets (1200x1000mm) in one lift. It can also lift small machinery, bulk bags, and other items, reducing the number of cages and lift plans needed on-site.

Q: What should I look for on a visual inspection?

Regular pre-use checks help ensure that the ramps operate smoothly, cage integrity is maintained, and tie-down points are in good condition. Consult our user guide for the full list.

Q: How do I load this cage?

The fold-down ramps allow for smooth and easy loading and unloading. The ramps support pallet trucks, sack barrows, forklifts, and telehandlers -- whichever loading method suits the source area.

Q: Can I use this cage for personnel transport?

No. The XXL Lifting Cage is certified for materials and equipment only. For personnel transport, use the Access Cage range (1 to 12-person variants).

Q: Can I stack the cages when not in use?

Yes -- multiple cages can be stacked when not in use, which saves valuable space on-site or in the yard. Ensure stacked cages are on a level surface and secured against accidental movement.
