Gas Cage Storage

Ventilation

Gas cylinders should be stored in the open air or in a well-ventilated enclosure so that any leak disperses rather than accumulates. That is why a mesh cage is used rather than an enclosed cupboard.

Securing cylinders

Cylinders should be kept upright and restrained so they cannot fall. A cylinder that topples and damages its valve is dangerous, so chains or bars at two heights are a sensible minimum.

Separation

Keep oxidising gases separate from flammables, either by distance or a fire-resistant partition — check current guidance for the separation required. Full and empty cylinders should also be segregated and clearly marked.

Common questions
Can gas cylinders be stored in an enclosed cupboard?

Cylinders need ventilation so any leak disperses. A mesh cage in the open air or a purpose-built ventilated store is the usual approach.

How should oxygen and flammable gases be stored?

Separately, either by distance or with a fire-resistant partition between them. Check current guidance for the separation required.

Do gas cages need securing?

Static cages should be anchored or sited so they cannot be toppled. Mobile cages need brakes and cylinders restrained inside.

Which brands do you stock for Gas Cage Storage?
