Ratchet Lever Hoists

Any orientation

A lever hoist works vertically, horizontally or at an angle, which makes it the tool for pulling, tensioning and positioning as well as lifting. That versatility is the main reason to choose one over a chain block.

Do not extend the lever

Slipping a tube over the handle to gain leverage overloads the mechanism and the chain. If the load will not move with the standard lever, the hoist is too small for the job.

Chain length

Specify enough chain for the pull or lift required, with some to spare for rigging. Too little and the hoist cannot reach; far too much is extra weight to carry.

Common questions
What is a lever hoist used for?

Lifting, pulling, tensioning and positioning in any orientation, which is what distinguishes it from a chain block.

Can I extend the lever for more force?

No. Extending the handle overloads the mechanism and the chain. If the load will not move with the standard lever, use a larger hoist.

How much chain do I need?

Enough for the pull or lift plus some for rigging. Excess chain is extra weight to carry to the job.
