Load Moving Systems

How skates work

Machinery skates let a small team move loads into places no forklift can reach — through doorways, along corridors and into plant rooms. Capacity is normally quoted per set, and the load needs distributing across all the skates rather than resting on one.

Floor condition

Skates need a hard, flat, clean surface. Grit, expansion joints and soft screed can stop a skate and destabilise the load, so check the route before committing and lay steel plate over anything questionable.

Steering

Fixed-wheel skates travel in a straight line and need a steerable unit at the front. Rotating skates turn on the spot, which suits confined spaces where the load has to change direction repeatedly.

Common questions
How much can machinery skates move?

Capacity is quoted per set and varies widely. The load must be spread across all skates in the set rather than concentrated on one.

What floor surface do skates need?

Hard, flat and clean. Grit, expansion joints and soft screed can stop a skate. Lay steel plate over questionable sections.

Fixed or rotating skates?

Fixed-wheel skates run straight and need a steerable unit at the front. Rotating skates turn on the spot, which suits confined spaces.
