Concrete Washout

Why washout is controlled

Concrete washwater is strongly alkaline and harmful to watercourses. Discharging it to ground or a surface drain is an environmental offence, and enforcement is active.

How the units work

A washout unit contains the water, allows solids to settle and lets the liquid evaporate or be removed by a licensed carrier. Hardened solids are then broken out and disposed of as inert waste, which is considerably cheaper than liquid disposal.

Siting

Place the unit on level ground, well away from drains and watercourses, with clear access for the mixer or pump. Sign it clearly, or it will get used as a general waste skip.
