Grabs

Mechanical or hydraulic

Mechanical grabs grip using the weight of the load itself, so there is nothing to power. The trade-off is that they release only once the load is fully set down. Hydraulic grabs give controlled opening and closing at any point, which matters for precise placement.

Grip and surface

Grip depends on friction, so check the pad material against what you are lifting. A grab suited to rough concrete may not hold on wet, coated or polished surfaces.

Examination

Grabs are lifting accessories and need periodic thorough examination, with particular attention to pivot wear and pad condition. Worn pads are a common cause of a dropped load.

Common questions
How does a mechanical grab hold the load?

The weight of the load drives the gripping action through a linkage. It releases once the load is fully supported by the ground.

Can grabs be used over public areas?

A friction grip can slip, particularly on wet or coated surfaces. Lifts over people or public access need a positively secured attachment and an exclusion zone.

What should I check on a grab?

Pad wear and pivot play in particular, alongside the periodic thorough examination required for lifting accessories.

Which brands do you stock for Grabs?

We supply Eichinger, Invicta, Conquip and Camlok. Ranges vary, so check the brand page for the full listing.
