Heavy Duty Goods Carrying Cage

Eichinger 1058 & Conquip Ramp Access | 1,500kg & 3,000kg SWL | Crane & Forklift Liftable | Gate & Ramp Access Options | CE Marked | UKCA Compliant

WOLFF Onsite supplies a comprehensive range of heavy-duty goods carrying cages for transporting un-palletised, bulky or loose goods around construction sites by crane, forklift or telehandler. The Eichinger 1058 series features gate-access cages in 1,500kg and 3,000kg SWL ratings, each supplied with certified lifting eyes for crane operations and fork pockets for forklift handling. Full-opening front gates provide easy loading and unloading access, and heavy-duty mesh side walls prevent items from falling out during transit. In addition to the Eichinger range, we also offer two Conquip goods cages at 3,000kg WLL with gas-assisted fold-down ramp access, allowing loading with pallet trucks and sack barrows. Available in Small and Large sizes, the Conquip ramp-access cages feature forged and rated lifting eyelets inset at 45° for straight-pull crane lifts, fork pockets, and mesh side panels. A reinforced Eichinger variant (1058.3R) with ramp access is also available.

CE Marked & UKCA Compliant

This product carries CE marking in accordance with EU Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC, and a UKCA certificate is also provided where required for the UK market. Fully tested and certified to the stated SWL. An EC Declaration of Conformity is supplied with every unit as standard.

Key Features

  • Dual lifting capability — four certified lifting eyes for crane operations and fork pockets for forklift and telehandler use across all models
  • Gate and ramp access options — Eichinger models feature full-opening front gates, while Conquip models offer gas-assisted fold-down ramps for loading with pallet trucks, sack barrows and telehandlers
  • Heavy-duty mesh side walls — rugged steel mesh panels contain items securely during lifting and transport, protecting workers below
  • Multiple SWL and size options — 1,500kg (Eichinger 1058.3 / 1058.3R) and 3,000kg (Eichinger 1058.5 and both Conquip models) to suit a wide range of load requirements
  • Spreader bar on 1058.5 — the Eichinger large model includes a spreader bar positioned across the width of the cage to prevent side deflection under heavy loads
  • Conquip inset lifting eyelets — forged and rated at 45° for straight-pull chain lifts, inset into the cage to prevent damage when stacking
  • Stackable for storage — cages can be stacked when empty to save valuable site space; Conquip models feature corner brackets for secure stacking

Suitable Applications

The goods carrying cage range is designed for construction sites, warehouses and industrial environments where un-palletised or bulky items need to be moved safely. Common loads include tools, fixings, plumbing and electrical supplies, scaffolding components, PPE, rebar lengths, boarded materials, and general site waste. The crane lifting eyes make these cages ideal for lifting goods between ground level and upper floors on multi-storey builds, while the fork pockets allow the same cage to be moved at ground level by forklift or telehandler. The Conquip ramp-access models are particularly suited to sites where materials need to be loaded by pallet truck or sack barrow, as the gas-assisted fold-down ramp allows wheeled access directly into the cage. The larger Conquip cage at 2,645mm long is also well suited to transporting boarded materials such as plasterboard and plywood.

How to Use the Goods Carrying Cage

  1. Position the cage on firm, level ground before loading. For gate-access models, open the front gate(s). For ramp-access models, release the gas-assisted ramp and lower it to the ground.
  2. Load items into the cage in a uniform manner, ensuring the weight is evenly distributed. Do not place items higher than the mesh side panels. On ramp-access models, a pallet truck or sack barrow can be wheeled directly into the cage via the ramp.
  3. Close and lock the front gate(s), or raise and secure the ramp on Conquip models.
  4. For crane lifting, attach a suitably rated 4-leg chain sling to each of the four lifting eyes. If using the Eichinger 1058.5, ensure the spreader bar is correctly positioned across the width of the cage.
  5. For forklift transport, confirm that the forks are set to the correct spacing for the fork pockets and drive the forks fully in.
  6. Raise the cage slowly off the ground and check for stability before proceeding.
  7. Transport the load to the required location, avoiding sudden or jolting movements.
  8. Lower the cage carefully onto firm, level ground and open the gate or ramp to unload.
  9. At the end of shift, ensure the cage is clean and empty with the gate or ramp closed and secured.

Certification and Compliance

All goods carrying cages supplied by WOLFF Onsite are CE marked and supplied with full certification. Eichinger models are supplied with an EC Declaration of Conformity in accordance with the EU Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC, with a UKCA certificate where required for the Great Britain market. Conquip models are manufactured in accordance with the Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC (as defined by EN ISO 17050-1:2004) and are supplied fully tested and certified. All lifting equipment used on UK construction sites must comply with the Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations 1998 (LOLER) and the Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998 (PUWER).

Safety Information

  • Never exceed the rated Safe Working Load (SWL / WLL) as shown on the type plate.
  • Do not place items higher than the cage mesh side panels.
  • Ensure the front gate(s) or ramp are closed and secured before lifting or transporting.
  • When using the Eichinger 1058.5, the spreader bar must be correctly positioned before crane lifting.
  • On Conquip ramp models, ensure the gas struts are functioning correctly and the ramp latches securely in both the open and closed positions.
  • The cage must only be lifted by the designated four lifting points or the integral fork pockets.
  • No third-party modifications, drilling, welding, cutting or distortion of materials are permitted without written manufacturer approval.
  • A risk assessment must be carried out prior to moving or using this equipment.
  • Operation only by persons who are familiar with the equipment and have read the operating instructions.
  • Required PPE: hard hat, safety boots, gloves, and hi-vis vest.
  • The type plate must remain present and legible at all times.

Inspection and Maintenance

All goods carrying cages must be inspected before each use and undergo a thorough examination at least every 12 months by a competent person in accordance with LOLER 1998. All inspections must be documented and any defects rectified immediately. Pay particular attention to the lifting eyes, fork pockets, gate or ramp mechanism, mesh panels and all welds. On Conquip ramp-access models, check that the gas struts are functioning correctly and that the ramp latches and hinges are in good condition. Where the Eichinger 1058.5 is used, ensure the spreader bar is in good condition and correctly located. Check for signs of corrosion, cracking or deformation across all models.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What is the difference between the Eichinger and Conquip goods cages?

The Eichinger 1058 range features front gate access in 1,500kg and 3,000kg SWL ratings, while the Conquip models offer gas-assisted fold-down ramp access at 3,000kg WLL. The ramp allows loading with pallet trucks and sack barrows, making the Conquip models particularly suited to sites where wheeled loading is preferred. Both ranges feature crane lifting eyes and fork pockets for dual handling capability.

Q: What is the difference between the 1058.3 and the 1058.5?

The Eichinger 1058.3 has a 1,500kg SWL with a single full-opening front gate and measures 1,250 × 1,250mm. The 1058.5 has a 3,000kg SWL with twin front opening gates, measures 1,250 × 2,500mm, and includes a spreader bar for additional structural rigidity under heavier loads.

Q: What sizes are the Conquip ramp-access cages available in?

The Conquip goods cage with ramp access is available in two sizes: Small (1,360 × 1,300 × 1,300mm, 300kg self-weight) and Large (2,645 × 1,300 × 1,300mm, 460kg self-weight). Both have a 3,000kg working load limit. The large model is particularly suited to transporting boarded materials such as plasterboard and plywood. A long-side ramp variant of the large cage is also available on request.

Q: Can I load the Conquip cage with a pallet truck?

Yes. The gas-assisted fold-down ramp on the Conquip models creates a smooth transition from ground level into the cage, allowing pallet trucks, sack barrows and even small plant to be wheeled directly in. Simply release the ramp, lower it to the ground, wheel the load inside, then raise and secure the ramp before lifting.

Q: Can the cage be used with both a crane and a forklift?

Yes, all models — both Eichinger and Conquip — are supplied with certified lifting eyes for crane operations and fork pockets for forklift and telehandler use. This dual capability means the same cage can be used across different handling methods on the same site.

Q: How often does the cage need to be inspected?

All goods carrying cages must be visually inspected before each use and undergo a thorough examination at least every 12 months by a competent person, in accordance with the Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations 1998 (LOLER). All inspection records must be documented and retained.
