More About This Product

The Hazardous Security Cupboard (900 x 460 x 460mm) provides high-security, segregated storage for substances hazardous to health, helping employers meet their obligations under the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulations 2002 (COSHH). Built from 1.2mm seam-welded mild steel with full-length piano hinges and concealed fixings to resist forced entry, it is secured by a seven-lever anti-pick safe lock. An integral, fully welded liquid-tight sump rated to 7 litres contains accidental leaks and spills, and 1 adjustable galvanised spill-retaining shelf (UDL 140kg) organise the interior. Powder-coated in high-visibility Truflow Yellow with Germ Guard antibacterial technology and classified for Reaction to Fire under EN 13501-1. Manufactured to order in the UK.

Suitable Applications

This high-security hazardous substance cupboard suits industrial, commercial and laboratory environments where substances hazardous to health must be stored securely and segregated from incompatible materials, and where a higher level of protection against unauthorised access or tampering is required. The high-visibility yellow finish and clear labelling support the control measures expected under a COSHH risk assessment.
At this size the same cabinet is made for Acid & Alkali and CoSHH substances. See all COSHH storage for the full range.

How to Use the Hazardous Security Cupboard

  1. Site the cupboard on a firm, level floor in a well-ventilated area, away from heat sources, ignition sources and incompatible materials.
  2. Adjust the galvanised shelves to suit the height of your containers, ensuring each shelf is fully seated on its supports.
  3. Store substances in their original, correctly labelled containers and never exceed the 140kg uniformly distributed load per shelf.
  4. Keep incompatible substances segregated in separate cupboards as identified by your COSHH risk assessment.
  5. Affix the supplied hazard warning labels so the contents are clearly identifiable.
  6. Lock the cupboard after every use and restrict key access to authorised, trained personnel only.

Warning:
Always consult the safety data sheet (SDS) for every substance before storage. Never store incompatible chemicals together. Do not store quantities or substances beyond the scope of your COSHH risk assessment.

Safety Information

  • Carry out a COSHH risk assessment before storing any hazardous substance and follow the control measures it identifies.
  • Store incompatible substances in separate, clearly labelled cupboards.
  • Keep all substances in their original, correctly labelled containers with the lids secure.
  • Ensure the storage area is adequately ventilated and away from heat and ignition sources.
  • Provide and use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) when handling stored substances.
  • Keep the cupboard locked when not in use and limit key access to trained, authorised personnel.

Inspection and Maintenance

Clean the paintwork periodically with warm soapy water or a foaming cleaner. Oil the hinges and lock sparingly as required with a light oil (3-in-1 or similar). Inspect the integral sump regularly and clean out any spillage promptly using a suitable absorbent. Check that hazard warning labels remain legible and replace them if damaged. Replacement locks and spare keys are available on request.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How is this different from the standard COSHH Cupboard?

This Hazardous Security version is built from 1.2mm seam-welded steel with full-length piano hinges, concealed fixings and a seven-lever anti-pick safe lock for a much higher level of security and resistance to forced entry. The standard cupboard uses a no-snag two-point key-locking handle.

Q: Does it meet COSHH requirements?

Yes. It provides lockable, clearly identifiable, segregated, sump-contained storage as part of the control measures identified in your COSHH risk assessment.

Q: Why is it yellow?

The high-visibility Truflow Yellow finish makes the cupboard and its hazardous contents instantly identifiable in the workplace.

Q: Is it delivered assembled?

Yes. The cupboard is manufactured to order and delivered fully assembled with hazard warning labels supplied.
