How to Use the Pfaff-Silberblau SW-W Alpha

1. Verify the mounting: Before each use, verify the four wall-fixing bolts remain fully torqued and the wall substrate is undamaged. The mounting must be capable of supporting the full rated capacity plus an appropriate safety factor.
2. Inspect the rope: Visually check the full working length of the wire rope for kinks, broken strands, surface damage, or wear concentrations. Remove from service if any defect is found.
3. Inspect the brake: Verify the load-pressure brake holds correctly by attaching a light test load, raising it a short distance, then releasing the crank. The load should hold without back-driving.
4. Attach the load: Connect the working end of the rope to the load via a suitable rated hook, sling, or shackle. Ensure all connections are secure and any hook safety latches are fully engaged.
5. Verify the rope alignment: The rope should run cleanly from the drum through any guide or sheave to the load, without rubbing against the housing or wall.
6. Lift the load: Crank the handle smoothly to raise the load. Avoid sudden starts or stops. The brake engages automatically each time the crank is released.
7. Lower the load: Crank the handle in the reverse direction against the brake to lower at a controlled rate. The brake provides smooth descent — the load does not free-fall.
8. Secure the load before unattended use: If the load is to be left suspended for any period, transfer it to a dedicated load-holding support (cradle, secondary chain, or structural rest). The winch brake is a holding device, not a long-term load anchor.

Warning:
Wire rope winches are lifting devices and must not be used to lift, lower, or transport personnel. Never exceed the rated capacity stamped on the winch body. Never use a winch with damaged rope, distorted housing, or a brake that does not hold smoothly. The winch is for vertical lifting from a wall mount only — pulling at an angle to the rope drum axis is not permitted.

Safety Information

• Verify the wall mounting before each use — bolts torqued, wall substrate undamaged.
• Inspect the wire rope for the full working length each shift; remove from service immediately at first sign of broken strands, kinks, or surface damage.
• Never exceed the rated capacity stamped on the winch body.
• Never use the winch to lift, lower, or transport personnel.
• Test brake operation with a light load before each lifting operation.
• Keep at least three turns of rope on the drum at full extension — never run the rope off the drum.
• Do not stand under the suspended load. Position yourself clear of the load path.
• Transfer the load to dedicated support before leaving it suspended for any extended period.
• Workplace operators must establish a Thorough Examination regime under LOLER 1998 / PUWER 1998 at intervals not exceeding 12 months.
