XXL Lifting Cage

CA124-10824 | 5,000 kg WLL | Six Pallet Capacity | CE Marked | UKCA Compliant

The XXL Lifting Cage is a large-capacity crane-lifted cage designed to move materials, equipment and small machinery safely in a single lift. With a 5,000 kg working load limit, solid steel sides and internal space for up to six standard (1,200 ร— 1,000 mm) pallets, it delivers a genuine one-stop lifting solution โ€” fewer lifts, fewer lift plans and significantly reduced crane time on site.

CE Marked | UKCA Compliant

Supplied with a test certificate and EC Declaration of Conformity. Under LOLER 1998, lifting accessories require a thorough examination by a competent person every six months after initial certification.

Key Features

  • Ramped access โ€” Fold-down ramps at one end allow loading with pallet trucks, sack barrows, forklifts or telehandlers without lifting items over the cage wall.
  • Solid steel sides โ€” Fully enclosed sides contain loose materials and prevent anything falling out mid-lift.
  • Internal tie-down points โ€” Dedicated anchor points allow heavier loads and small machinery to be properly secured before lifting.
  • Six-pallet internal area โ€” Internal floor space is sized to take six standard (1,200 ร— 1,000 mm) pallets in a single lift.
  • 5,000 kg working load limit โ€” One of the largest WLLs in the goods-cage category; gross lifted weight with a full load is 6,110 kg (1,110 kg cage + 5,000 kg payload).
  • Fork pockets โ€” Integrated pockets allow a forklift or telehandler to reposition the cage between lifts and move it into storage.
  • Stackable when empty โ€” Empty cages stack together, saving space in the yard and on site.

Suitable Applications

Large multi-storey and high-rise projects where materials need to be delivered to different levels and craneage is the primary means of vertical transport. The XXL cage is well suited to moving packaged bricks, blocks, bagged goods, insulation, fixings, small tools, bulk bags and palletised deliveries in a single lift rather than as multiple separate lift operations. It is also useful for relocating small plant items, generators and welfare equipment between site locations, provided the load is properly secured using the internal tie-down points and stays within the 5,000 kg WLL.

How to Use the XXL Lifting Cage

  1. Carry out a pre-use visual inspection โ€” check ramp operation, cage integrity, lifting points and tie-down anchors.
  2. Position the cage on firm, level ground and lower the fold-down ramps at the loading end.
  3. Load materials using a pallet truck, sack barrow, forklift or telehandler, distributing weight evenly across the floor.
  4. Secure any heavier loads or loose items using the internal tie-down points.
  5. Raise and latch the ramps before any lift takes place.
  6. Attach a correctly rated four-leg chain sling to the designated lifting points.
  7. Confirm the combined weight of cage and load is within both the 5,000 kg WLL and the crane's safe working load at the intended radius.
  8. Make the lift under the supervision of a trained slinger/signaller with a banksman at the landing point.
  9. Land the cage softly, release the sling, lower the ramps and unload.

Warning: Not a man-riding cage โ€” this product must not be used for lifting personnel under any circumstances. Do not exceed the 5,000 kg working load limit. Loads must be evenly distributed and secured with the tie-down points before lifting.

Certification and Compliance

CE Marked and UKCA compliant. Supplied with a test certificate and EC Declaration of Conformity. Designed and manufactured to meet the requirements of the Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations 1998 (LOLER) and the Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998 (PUWER). A copy of the manufacturer's user guide is available on request.

Safety Information

  • All lifting operations must be planned, supervised and carried out by competent persons in line with LOLER 1998.
  • Never exceed the 5,000 kg working load limit.
  • Do not use for lifting personnel โ€” this is a goods cage, not a man-riding cage.
  • Carry out a visual pre-use inspection before every lift.
  • Ensure the ramps are fully raised and latched before any lift begins.
  • Secure loose items and machinery using the internal tie-down points before lifting.
  • Keep all personnel clear of the load path and never stand under a suspended load.
  • Only use with a correctly rated four-leg chain sling attached to the designated lifting points.

Inspection and Maintenance

A pre-use visual inspection should be carried out before every lift, checking the cage structure, ramps, tie-down points and lifting points for any signs of damage or deformation. Under LOLER 1998, a thorough examination by a competent person is required every six months from the date of initial certification. Any cage showing structural damage, excessive wear or deformation must be withdrawn from service until inspected and, where necessary, repaired by a competent party.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Why use an XXL cage rather than several smaller cages?

One XXL cage holds up to six standard pallets, which means fewer individual lifts, a single lift plan instead of several, and significantly less crane time spent on material movement.

Q: What is the total weight when fully loaded?

The cage weighs 1,110 kg empty. With a full 5,000 kg load, the gross lifted weight is 6,110 kg. Always check this is within the crane's safe working load at the intended radius.

Q: How is the cage loaded?

Fold-down ramps at one end drop to ground level, allowing loading with a pallet truck, sack barrow, forklift or telehandler. The ramps must be fully raised and latched before the cage is lifted.

Q: Can the cage be used to lift people?

No. This is a goods cage only and must never be used for lifting personnel. For man-riding requirements, use a dedicated access cage certified for personnel lifting.

Q: How often does it need re-certification?

Every six months, in line with LOLER 1998 requirements for lifting accessories. The cage must be thoroughly examined by a competent person and a report issued.

Q: Can cages be stacked when not in use?

Yes. Empty XXL Lifting Cages are designed to stack together, which saves space in the yard and on site when the cages aren't in active use.

Q: Can the cage be moved without a crane?

Yes โ€” integrated fork pockets allow a forklift or telehandler to reposition the cage over short distances and move it into storage between lifts.
