Yale Fall Arrest Retrieval Block 25m CMHCRW30025

Model CMHCRW30025 | Fall Arrest with Rescue Retrieval | 25m Cable | 100kg WLL | EN 360 and EN 1496 Compliant

The Yale CMHCRW30025 Retrieval Block combines self-retracting fall arrest capability with an integrated rescue retrieval mechanism, letting a competent rescuer lift or lower a casualty using the same block that was providing fall arrest. After a fall arrest event โ€” or for planned confined space retrieval โ€” the rescuer switches the block to retrieval mode and operates the handle to wind the casualty up or down to safety. The 25 m cable length suits multi-storey access and most confined space applications; manufactured by Columbus McKinnon under the Yale brand with test certificate and operating manual.

Key Features

  • Combined fall arrest and rescue โ€” single block for both functions โ€” no separate rescue winch required during rescue events
  • 25 m galvanised steel cable โ€” suits multi-storey access and most confined space applications
  • Self-retracting fall arrest โ€” EN 360 compliant with speed-sensitive brake
  • Manual rescue retrieval โ€” EN 1496 compliant โ€” handle-operated winch mechanism for lifting or lowering the casualty
  • 100 kg rescue WLL โ€” suitable for typical casualty retrieval; verify casualty weight before retrieval
  • Robust housing โ€” impact-resistant for daily site use and confined space environments
  • Compatible with all Yale harnesses โ€” particularly suitable with the CMHYP10R Rescue Harness for complete rescue capability

Technical Specifications

Model Part Number Cable Length Working Load Limit Standards
CMHCRW30025 192029101 25 m 100 kg BS EN 360 and BS EN 1496

Combined fall arrest and retrieval block โ€” no second device required for rescue. Working Load Limit applies to rescue retrieval; fall arrest is rated separately per EN 360.

CMCO Group | EN ISO 9001 Certified | EN 360 and EN 1496 Compliant | CE Marked

This product is manufactured by Columbus McKinnon under the Yale lifting brand to EN ISO 9001 quality management standards. Compliant with BS EN 360 for retractable type fall arresters. Supplied with a manufacturer's test certificate and CE Declaration of Conformity. PPE Regulation (EU) 2016/425 Category III. Work at Height Regulations 2005 require thorough examinations every 6 months by a competent person, with records kept.

More About This Product

The Yale CMHCRW30025 Retrieval Block combines self-retracting fall arrest capability with an integrated rescue retrieval mechanism, allowing a competent rescuer to lift or lower a casualty using the same block that was providing fall arrest. After a fall arrest event (or for planned confined space retrieval), the rescuer switches the block to retrieval mode and operates the handle to wind the casualty up or down to safety. The 25 m cable length suits multi-storey access and most confined space applications. Manufactured by Columbus McKinnon under the Yale lifting brand, supplied with a manufacturer's test certificate and operating manual.

Suitable Applications

Essential for confined space entry (tanks, vessels, manholes, silos, sewers), tower crane technician work, and any working environment where rescue retrieval is required as part of the rescue plan. Recommended in combination with a Yale CMHTM9 Personnel Tripod for confined space access, and with the CMHYP10R Rescue Harness.

How to Use the Retrieval Block

  1. Inspect the housing, cable, swivel hook, anchor connector, retrieval handle, and load indicator before each use.
  2. Function-test the fall arrest mode โ€” extend cable and verify retraction and brake.
  3. Function-test the retrieval mechanism โ€” switch to retrieval mode and verify the handle operates the winch in both directions.
  4. Mount the block at a certified overhead anchor rated to a minimum of 12 kN.
  5. Connect the swivel hook to the user's harness โ€” typically the rescue anchorage on a CMHYP10R rescue harness for complete rescue capability.
  6. During working, the block operates in fall arrest mode automatically.
  7. If retrieval is needed (after a fall or planned rescue), switch the block to retrieval mode and operate the handle to lift or lower the casualty.
  8. After any rescue event, withdraw the block from service for competent person inspection.

Warning:
The retrieval block must be operated in retrieval mode only by a trained competent person. The 100 kg rescue WLL must not be exceeded. After any fall arrest or rescue event, the block must be withdrawn from service for competent person inspection. A rescue plan must be in place and rehearsed before commencing any task requiring this block.

Safety Information

  • Carry out a pre-use visual and function test before every use โ€” extend the lanyard fully, verify retraction, and check the brake by sharply tugging the line.
  • Always attach the block to a certified overhead anchor rated to a minimum of 12 kN.
  • Always check the housing, lanyard, swivel hook, and anchor connector before each use.
  • Always position the anchor directly above the user where possible to prevent pendulum swing in the event of a fall.
  • Never use a block that has arrested a fall โ€” withdraw from service immediately and return for competent person inspection.
  • Never modify or attempt to repair the block; only authorised service centres can service these units.
  • Withdraw from service if any damage to the housing, lanyard, hooks, or load indicator is found.
  • Retrieval must be operated by a trained competent person.
  • Do not exceed the 100 kg rescue retrieval Working Load Limit.
  • A rescue plan must be in place before commencing work requiring this block.

Inspection and Maintenance

Inspect the block before each use, paying particular attention to the housing for cracks or impact damage, the lanyard for cuts, fraying, or chemical damage, the load indicator (where fitted) for any sign of deployment, and both connectors for distortion or damage. Function-test by extending the lanyard fully and allowing it to retract under tension โ€” the retraction should be smooth and complete. Test the brake by sharply tugging the line โ€” the brake must lock immediately. Store hanging by the anchor hook in a clean, dry location away from direct sunlight, sharp objects, and chemicals. Do not store the block with the lanyard extended. Under the Work at Height Regulations 2005 and PPE Regulations, a thorough examination must be carried out by a competent person at least every 6 months. Manufacturer-recommended internal service interval is typically every 2 years โ€” refer to the operating manual for the specific service requirements of your model.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How is the retrieval block different from a standard fall arrest cable block?

The retrieval block includes an integrated rescue retrieval mechanism, allowing a competent rescuer to lift or lower a casualty using the same device. A standard cable block provides fall arrest only โ€” separate rescue equipment would be required.

Q: Is the retrieval block required for confined space work?

It's strongly recommended. Confined space rescue plans typically require a means of vertical retrieval of the casualty โ€” the retrieval block provides this in combination with a tripod.

Q: What is the rescue Working Load Limit of 100 kg?

The maximum casualty weight (including PPE and tools) that can be safely lifted or lowered using the retrieval mechanism. Verify casualty weight before retrieval โ€” for casualties over 100 kg, an alternative rescue method must be used.

Q: Do I need a tripod as well?

For confined space access โ€” yes. The retrieval block mounts to the apex of a personnel tripod such as the Yale CMHTM9. For overhead structure access, the block can mount directly to a certified structural anchor.

Q: How does the retrieval mechanism work?

The block is switched from fall arrest mode to retrieval mode via an external control. In retrieval mode, the handle operates a winch that winds the cable in or out, lifting or lowering the casualty. This is operated by a competent rescuer at ground level.

Q: What happens after a rescue?

After any rescue event the block must be withdrawn from service for competent person inspection. Internal components and the brake mechanism must be checked before the block can be returned to use.

Q: How often must the block be inspected?

Pre-use inspection before every use, thorough examination by a competent person every 6 months, manufacturer-recommended internal service typically every 2 years.
