CMCO Group | EN ISO 9001 Certified | EN 361 and EN 358 Compliant | CE Marked

This product is manufactured by Columbus McKinnon under the Yale lifting brand to EN ISO 9001 quality management standards. Compliant with BS EN 361 for fall arrest harnesses and BS EN 358 for work positioning. Supplied with a manufacturer's test certificate and CE Declaration of Conformity. PPE Regulation (EU) 2016/425 Category III. LOLER 1998 and Work at Height Regulations 2005 require thorough examinations every 6 months by a competent person.

Suitable Applications

Suited to scaffold erection, structural steel work, telecoms tower work, electricity pylon work, wind turbine maintenance, and any working environment where the user needs multiple attachment options for fall arrest, work positioning, and ladder climbing within a single harness. The CMHYP56A is the recommended harness for trades that move between several work-at-height scenarios in a working day.

How to Fit and Use the Four Point Harness

  1. Carry out a pre-use visual and tactile inspection โ€” webbing, stitching, all buckles, and all four D-rings.
  2. Hold the harness, untangle any twisted straps, and orient the work positioning belt at the waist position.
  3. Place the harness on like a jacket. The front D-ring should sit at sternum height; the rear D-ring between the shoulder blades.
  4. Fasten and adjust the quick connect chest buckle.
  5. Fasten and adjust both quick connect leg buckles.
  6. Position the work positioning belt around the waist, fasten the belt buckle, and adjust to a snug fit.
  7. Adjust the shoulder straps so all attachment points sit correctly โ€” front D-ring at sternum, rear D-ring between shoulder blades, side D-rings at hip height.
  8. Connect to the appropriate D-ring for the working task. Fall arrest goes on the front or rear D-ring; work positioning lanyards on both side D-rings as a pair.

Warning:
Use the correct D-ring for each task. Side D-rings are for work positioning only. Never use side D-rings for fall arrest. Work positioning systems must be backed up with a separate fall arrest system where a fall risk exists. Never use a harness that has arrested a fall without competent person inspection.

Safety Information

  • Read and understand the manufacturer's operating manual before first use.
  • Carry out a pre-use visual and tactile inspection before every use, checking all webbing, stitching, buckles, and D-rings.
  • Withdraw the harness from service immediately if any damage, fraying, cuts, burns, or distorted hardware is found.
  • Always attach to a certified anchor point rated to a minimum of 12 kN (1200 kg).
  • Never use a harness that has arrested a fall โ€” it must be removed from service and inspected by a competent person before re-issue.
  • Ensure the harness is correctly sized and adjusted to the user before each use.
  • Train all users in the correct fitting, inspection, and use of the harness before authorising use at height.
  • The two side D-rings are for work positioning only โ€” never use as fall arrest attachment points.

Inspection and Maintenance

Inspect the harness visually and by hand before each use, paying particular attention to webbing for cuts, fraying, burns, or chemical damage, stitching for breaks or pulled threads, buckles and adjusters for distortion or damage, and D-rings for cracks, wear, or deformation. Clean using warm water and a mild detergent only โ€” do not use solvents. Air-dry away from direct heat. Store in a clean, dry place away from direct sunlight, sharp objects, and chemicals. Under the Work at Height Regulations 2005 and PPE Regulations, a thorough examination must be carried out by a competent person at least every 6 months, with records kept. The maximum service life of a height safety harness is typically 10 years from date of first use, subject to inspection โ€” refer to the manufacturer's manual for the specific service life of your model.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What makes the CMHYP56A different from the CMHYP10, CMHYP20, and CMHYP35?

The CMHYP56A has four D-ring attachment points (front, rear, and two side) plus an integrated work positioning belt and quick connect buckles. It's the most capable harness in the range and covers every fall arrest and work positioning scenario in a single unit.

Q: Is the work positioning belt removable?

No โ€” the work positioning belt is integrated into the harness construction and is not designed to be removed.

Q: Can the side D-rings be used for fall arrest?

No. The side D-rings are EN 358 work positioning attachments only. Fall arrest must use the front or rear D-ring.

Q: Are the quick connect buckles secure?

Yes. The quick connect buckles are designed to a positive double-action release that prevents accidental disengagement, while still allowing fast and easy donning.

Q: How often should the harness be inspected?

Pre-use inspection by the operator, and a thorough examination by a competent person every 6 months.

Q: Is the harness suitable for use over winter PPE?

The CMHYP56A standard size accommodates most users over typical site PPE. For larger users or over heavy outer PPE (winter coveralls, chemical suits), additional webbing length may be required โ€” contact us to discuss.

Q: Is a test certificate included?

Yes. A manufacturer's test certificate is supplied with every harness.
