Yale Height Safety Crane Maintenance Kit CMHYP05

Model CMHYP05 | Crane Maintenance and Rescue Kit | Rescue Harness with Retractable Block | EN 361, EN 1497 and EN 360 Compliant

The Yale CMHYP05 Crane Maintenance Kit is specified for crane technicians, riggers and maintenance personnel working on cranes, structures and at heights where rescue retrieval may be required. The kit combines a Yale rescue harness with rescue anchorage point and a Yale retractable fall arrest cable block, providing both fall arrest and rescue capability in a single bag. Manufactured by Columbus McKinnon under the Yale brand, with each component supplied with its own test certificate.

Key Features

  • Combined fall arrest and rescue specification โ€” rescue harness with rescue anchorage point plus retractable fall arrest block
  • Yale rescue harness โ€” EN 361 and EN 1497 compliant โ€” fall arrest plus dedicated rescue retrieval anchorage
  • Yale retractable cable block โ€” EN 360 compliant self-retracting fall arrester, automatic taut connection
  • Recommended for crane technicians โ€” purpose-specified for crane work where rescue may be needed
  • Suitable for confined space access โ€” the rescue harness rescue anchorage works with a retrieval winch
  • Heavy-duty storage bag โ€” protects components
  • Test certificates included โ€” each component supplied with its own certificate

Technical Specifications

Model Part Number Type Contents Use
CMHYP05 N37420006A Crane Maintenance Kit Rescue Harness + Retractable Block + Bag Crane work and rescue applications

Combines fall arrest and rescue capability for trades that may need vertical retrieval as part of the rescue plan.

CMCO Group | EN ISO 9001 Certified | EN 361, EN 1497 and EN 360 Compliant | CE Marked

Kit components are manufactured by Columbus McKinnon under the Yale and Tigrip lifting brands. All components conform to the relevant European standards as listed in the kit contents. Each component is supplied with its own manufacturer's test certificate and CE Declaration of Conformity. Work at Height Regulations 2005 require thorough examinations every 6 months by a competent person for all components in the kit.

Suitable Applications

Specified for tower crane technicians, crane mechanics, riggers working on crane structures, and any trade that combines work at height with the possibility of needing rescue retrieval. Also suitable for confined space entry where the kit is paired with a tripod and rescue winch (see the Yale CMHTM9 Personnel Tripod and the Yale Personnel Winches).

How to Use the Crane Maintenance Kit

  1. Inspect every component visually before each use.
  2. Plan the rescue procedure before commencing work โ€” identify how the user will be retrieved if they fall or become incapacitated.
  3. Fit the rescue harness and adjust for a secure fit. Verify the rescue anchorage point is accessible from above.
  4. Mount the retractable block at a certified overhead anchor rated to a minimum of 12 kN.
  5. Attach the block lanyard to the harness rear D-ring using the supplied connector.
  6. Function-test the block before commencing work โ€” verify retraction and brake.
  7. Proceed with the working task. The block automatically maintains a taut connection.
  8. If rescue is needed, the rescue anchorage on the harness allows vertical retrieval via a separate winch and tripod system.

Warning:
The rescue anchorage on the harness is for emergency retrieval only โ€” not for fall arrest. A rescue plan must be in place and rehearsed before commencing work that requires this kit. Never modify the retractable block. After any fall arrest, withdraw the block and all components from service for competent person inspection.

Safety Information

  • Inspect every kit component visually before each use.
  • Verify all components are compatible and present before commencing work at height.
  • Train all users in the correct fitting and use of the kit before authorising use.
  • Never use any kit component that has arrested a fall โ€” withdraw the affected component from service.
  • Always attach to certified anchor points rated to a minimum of 12 kN.
  • Store the kit in the supplied bag in a clean, dry location away from direct sunlight and chemicals.
  • Replace any individual component as required โ€” kits can be re-built with replacement components.
  • A rescue plan must be in place and rehearsed before commencing work requiring this kit.
  • The harness rescue anchorage is for retrieval only โ€” not for fall arrest.

Inspection and Maintenance

Inspect each component of the kit before every use. Components may have different service life and inspection intervals โ€” refer to each component's operating manual for the specific requirements. A competent person thorough examination is required at least every 6 months for all components. Replace components as they reach end of service life or fail inspection. The storage bag protects components between uses; do not store wet equipment in a sealed bag, allow to air-dry first.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What is included in the CMHYP05 kit?

Typical contents include a Yale rescue harness with rescue anchorage point, a Yale retractable fall arrest cable block, and a heavy-duty Yale storage bag. Specific component models may vary.

Q: Why is this kit called the 'Crane Maintenance' kit?

It's specified for crane technicians, but the kit is equally suitable for any work at height where rescue retrieval may be required, including confined space work.

Q: Do I need a tripod and winch as well?

For complete rescue capability โ€” yes. The rescue harness anchorage works with a winch and tripod for vertical retrieval. See the Yale CMHTM9 Personnel Tripod and Yale Personnel Winches.

Q: Can the rescue anchorage be used for fall arrest?

No. It's rated for vertical retrieval under load only. Fall arrest must use the harness front or rear D-ring with the retractable block.

Q: How does the retractable block work?

It automatically extends and retracts to maintain a taut connection. In a fall, an internal brake locks the lanyard, arresting the fall over a short distance โ€” typically less than 1 m of free fall, with much shorter fall clearance required than a fixed-length lanyard.

Q: How much fall clearance do I need with the block?

Typically 2 m to 3 m below the working position, depending on the specific block model. Always check the operating manual.

Q: How often must the kit be inspected?

Pre-use inspection by the operator, thorough examination by a competent person every 6 months.
