More About This Product

The Yale CMHYP03 Scaffolders Kit is purpose-built for scaffold erection and dismantling work. The kit centres on a Yale twin tail fall arrest lanyard with scaffold hook end-connectors, which allows the scaffolder to remain continuously connected to the structure while moving between tubes. Combined with a Yale full body harness and a heavy-duty storage bag, the CMHYP03 is the recommended PPE kit for daily scaffold work. Manufactured by Columbus McKinnon under the Yale lifting brand, each component is supplied with its own manufacturer's test certificate.

Suitable Applications

Designed for scaffold erection, dismantling, and inspection. Also suitable for work on temporary structures, falsework, and any application where the anchor point is a scaffold tube or similar steel section. Twin tail construction is essential during climbing and moving between positions to eliminate the disconnection moment of a single-tail lanyard.

How to Use the Scaffolders Kit

  1. Inspect every kit component before each use.
  2. Plan the climbing route and identify scaffold tubes that can be used as anchor points.
  3. Fit the harness and adjust for a secure fit.
  4. Connect the central end of the twin tail lanyard to the harness rear D-ring.
  5. Hook one scaffold hook tail onto the first scaffold tube anchor.
  6. Begin climbing. When ready to transfer to the next anchor, attach the second scaffold hook tail to the new anchor first, then release the first tail.
  7. Continue until the working position is reached — at all times at least one tail must be attached to a certified scaffold tube.
  8. On completion, repack the kit into the storage bag.

Warning:
Always attach to scaffold tubes that are part of the certified structure — temporary or non-load-bearing tubes are not suitable anchor points. The twin tail energy absorber is shared — only one tail can arrest a fall at a time. Verify the scaffold structure is certified before relying on it as a fall arrest anchor.

Safety Information

  • Inspect every kit component visually before each use.
  • Verify all components are compatible and present before commencing work at height.
  • Train all users in the correct fitting and use of the kit before authorising use.
  • Never use any kit component that has arrested a fall — withdraw the affected component from service.
  • Always attach to certified anchor points rated to a minimum of 12 kN.
  • Store the kit in the supplied bag in a clean, dry location away from direct sunlight and chemicals.
  • Replace any individual component as required — kits can be re-built with replacement components.
  • Only attach to scaffold tubes that are part of the certified load-bearing structure.

Inspection and Maintenance

Inspect each component of the kit before every use. Components may have different service life and inspection intervals — refer to each component's operating manual for the specific requirements. A competent person thorough examination is required at least every 6 months for all components. Replace components as they reach end of service life or fail inspection. The storage bag protects components between uses; do not store wet equipment in a sealed bag, allow to air-dry first.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Why use a twin tail lanyard for scaffold work?

Scaffolders constantly move between positions during erection and dismantling. A twin tail lanyard means the scaffolder always has at least one tail attached during transfers between scaffold tubes, eliminating the disconnection moment of a single-tail lanyard.

Q: Do the scaffold hooks fit all scaffold tube sizes?

The Yale scaffold hook fits standard 48 mm scaffold tubes. For non-standard tube sizes, check the gate opening before use.

Q: What is included in the CMHYP03 kit?

Typical contents include a Yale full body harness, a Yale twin tail fall arrest lanyard with two scaffold hooks, and a heavy-duty Yale storage bag.

Q: Is the lanyard webbing or rope?

Twin tail lanyards are available in webbing or rope construction. Rope offers better abrasion resistance against rough scaffold tubes; webbing is lower profile and lighter. Specify when ordering if you have a preference.

Q: Can I use the kit for fall arrest on structures other than scaffolds?

Yes, provided the anchor points accommodate the scaffold hook gate opening. For non-tube anchors (such as eye bolts), a kit with a screw gate snap hook lanyard may be more appropriate.

Q: How much fall clearance do I need?

Typically minimum 5.75 m below the anchor for a 2 m lanyard. Verify the specific fall clearance for your installation.

Q: How often must the kit be inspected?

Pre-use inspection by the operator, thorough examination by a competent person every 6 months.
