Yale hinged single-sheave pulley blocks provide a quick, versatile rigging point and rope redirection solution for wire rope applications, in four capacities from 1000 to 6400 kg. The hinged side plate opens for easy positioning of the wire rope onto the sheave without rope threading — a major time-saver in rigging operations — and swinging the hook in the direction of pull securely locks the side plate during the lift. Cast steel sheaves with machined grooves and Permaglide® bushes deliver low-friction rope travel and long service life.

Key Features

  • 1000–6400 kg capacity range — Four sizes covering light to heavy rigging applications.
  • Hinged side plate — Open for instant rope positioning — no threading required.
  • Self-locking under load — Swinging the hook in the direction of pull locks the side plate during the lift.
  • Cast steel sheave — High-strength machined groove for long rope life and reliable operation.
  • Permaglide® bushes — Maintenance-free low-friction bearing surface for smooth rope travel.
  • Forged steel hook — Robust construction with safety latch for secure attachment.
  • Compact rigging point — Quick deployment as a redirect or fixed rigging anchor.
  • DIN 15020 selection guidance — Standard reference for rope drive system design.

More About This Product

Yale hinged single-sheave pulley blocks provide a quick, versatile rigging point and rope redirection solution for wire rope applications. Available in four capacities from 1000 to 6400 kg, the hinged side plate opens for easy positioning of the wire rope onto the sheave without rope threading — a major time-saver in rigging operations. Cast steel sheaves with machined grooves and Permaglide® bushes deliver low-friction rope travel and long service life. Swinging the hook in the direction of pull securely locks the side plate during the lift.

Suitable Applications

Construction site rigging, rope redirection in pulling operations, snatch block use with the Yaletrac or other wire rope pullers, lifting operations requiring change of direction, mechanical advantage rigging, and any wire rope handling requiring a quick-attachment pulley point.

How to Use the Hinged Pulley Blocks

  1. Inspect the pulley block before every use — body, sheave, bushes, hook and safety latch.
  2. Confirm load and rope diameter are compatible with the selected pulley block size.
  3. Open the hinged side plate by rotating it around the pivot.
  4. Position the wire rope on the sheave groove.
  5. Close the side plate fully — the hook orientation will lock it during the lift.
  6. Attach the block to the anchor point or rigging assembly via the hook and safety latch.
  7. Apply load gradually and confirm the side plate remains locked.
  8. After use, ease tension and open the side plate to remove the rope.

Warning:
Confirm the side plate is fully closed and the hook is oriented in the direction of pull before loading. Use only wire rope of the correct diameter for the selected sheave — incorrect rope sizing causes premature sheave and rope wear. Do not exceed the rated WLL. The block must be free to rotate at the anchor — restricting rotation can cause side-loading and unsafe operation.

Safety Information

  • Never exceed the rated working load limit (WLL) displayed on the equipment.
  • Never use the equipment if any component shows visible damage, wear or deformation.
  • Keep all personnel clear of the lifted load at all times.
  • Do not modify, repair or substitute components other than as specified by the manufacturer.
  • Ensure the operator is trained, competent and authorised for the lifting operation.
  • Do not shock load the equipment under any circumstances.

Inspection and Maintenance

Inspect before each use — focus on all load-bearing components, welds, hooks, safety latches, chain, rope and pendant controls. Thorough examination under LOLER 1998 is required at intervals not exceeding 6 months by a competent person. Replacement parts must be genuine manufacturer items to maintain certification. Records of all inspections must be retained for the life of the equipment.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How do I choose the right capacity?

Select based on the maximum load passing through the block, including any mechanical advantage. For a single-line redirect, the block sees the full load. For a 2:1 mechanical advantage, the block sees twice the load — size accordingly.

Q: What rope diameter fits each block?

Each block has a sheave groove sized for a specific rope diameter range. Refer to the Yale datasheet for exact rope diameter compatibility per capacity. Using under-sized rope causes slippage; over-sized rope causes premature wear.

Q: Why is DIN 15020 relevant?

DIN 15020 sets standards for rope drive systems including minimum sheave-to-rope diameter ratios. For long rope life, the sheave diameter should be significantly larger than the rope diameter — DIN 15020 gives the relevant ratios for different duty classes.

Q: What are Permaglide® bushes?

Permaglide® is a self-lubricating composite bearing material developed by Federal-Mogul. The bushes require no lubrication and provide consistent low friction across the operating life — eliminating the maintenance grease schedule typical of plain bronze bushings.
