The Yale HTP ATEX is the explosion-protected version of Yale's manual push trolley, certified for use in potentially explosive atmospheres per the ATEX Directive. The BASIC grade covers Zone 2 (gas, group IIA) and Zone 22 (dust, group IIIA) — areas where an explosive atmosphere is unlikely during normal operation — using an MKS spark-resistant coating on external moving surfaces and rubber buffers as standard. Mechanical performance and beam compatibility are identical to the standard HTP, with Size A and Size B variants both available.

Key Features

  • ATEX BASIC certification (Zone 2/22): II 3G Ex h IIA T4 Gc / II 3D Ex h IIIA T135 °C Dc.
  • MKS spark-resistant coating: External surfaces coated to prevent ignition from frictional contact.
  • Rubber buffers as standard: Reduce impact energy at end-of-travel — essential in ATEX applications.
  • Standard HTP mechanical platform: Same wheel design, clevis adjustment, 14% incline rating.
  • HIGH grade available for Zone 1/21: Solid bronze wheels for the most demanding atmospheres.

ATEX BASIC: II 3G Ex h IIA T4 Gc / II 3D Ex h IIIA T135 °C Dc | CE & UKCA Marked

Certified for Zone 2 (gas, group IIA, T4) and Zone 22 (dust, group IIIA, T135 °C). For Zone 1/21 the HIGH grade is also available (II 2G Ex h IIC T4 Gb / II 2D Ex h IIIC T135 °C Db) with solid bronze wheels — contact us for HIGH grade SKUs. CE marked, UKCA marked, ATEX Declaration of Conformity supplied. LOLER 1998 thorough examinations every 12 months.

Suitable Applications

The HTP ATEX is for explosion-protected applications: chemical and petrochemical plants, refineries, gas terminals, paint and solvent handling, grain stores and dust-handling facilities, mining (above ground), pharmaceutical production. BASIC for Zone 2/22; HIGH for Zone 1/21.

How to Use the Yale HTP ATEX

  1. Confirm zone certification: BASIC for Zone 2/22; HIGH grade needed for Zone 1/21.
  2. Confirm beam compatibility: Check beam flange width and thickness.
  3. Inspect MKS coating: Any significant damage compromises ATEX certification.
  4. Install end stops: Fit beam end stops with rubber buffers.
  5. Attach ATEX hoist: Use an ATEX-compliant lifting hoist of matching zone.
  6. Travel by hand: Push along beam — avoid sudden jerks.

Warning: The HTP ATEX must be used with ATEX-compliant lifting equipment throughout the rigging chain. Combining ATEX and non-ATEX components defeats the protection rating.

Safety Information

  • Verify ATEX zone classification before installation.
  • Inspect MKS coating before each use — damaged coating compromises certification.
  • Use only with ATEX-compliant hoists and lifting accessories.
  • Never exceed the Working Load Limit.
  • Confirm beam flange width/thickness within range.
  • Install beam end stops at both ends.
  • Never use to lift, lower or transport persons.
  • LOLER 1998 thorough examination every 12 months.

Inspection and Maintenance

The HTP ATEX requires standard HTP inspection plus a visual check of the MKS spark-resistant coating. Coating damage requires repair or removal from service to maintain certification. WOLFF Onsite provides LOLER and ATEX-aware inspection services.

Optional Accessories

  • HIGH grade ATEX upgrade: Zone 1/21 with solid bronze wheels.
  • Locking device: Park-position security.
  • Yale HTG ATEX geared variant: For heavier loads.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What ATEX zones does the HTP ATEX BASIC cover?

Zone 2 (gas atmospheres unlikely during normal operation) and Zone 22 (dust equivalent). Cert mark: II 3G Ex h IIA T4 Gc for gas and II 3D Ex h IIIA T135 °C Dc for dust. For Zone 1/21 the HIGH grade is required.

Q: What's the difference between BASIC and HIGH ATEX grades?

BASIC (Zone 2/22) is for atmospheres unlikely under normal operation. HIGH (Zone 1/21) is for atmospheres likely under normal operation. HIGH adds solid bronze wheels (replacing steel) to eliminate spark generation from wheel/beam contact, and covers gas group IIC (broadest, including hydrogen) rather than IIA.

Q: Can I use a non-ATEX hoist with an ATEX trolley?

No. The full lifting assembly — trolley, hoist, slings, shackles — must be ATEX-rated to the appropriate zone. Mixing rated and unrated equipment defeats protection. See EX09 (C/D 85 ATEX) and EX08 (UNOplus ATEX) for matching ATEX hoists on our site.

Q: What is MKS coating?

MKS is a zinc-flake spark-resistant coating applied to external surfaces. It prevents ignition of explosive atmospheres from frictional metal-on-metal contact. Must be inspected before each use and repaired if damaged.
