Yale Personnel Tripod CMHTM9 6m

Model CMHTM9 | Personnel Access and Rescue Tripod | 6m Working Height | Pulley Included | EN 795 Compliant

The Yale CMHTM9 Personnel Tripod is an essential piece of confined space access and rescue equipment, providing a certified anchor point above a manhole, tank or vessel entry. The aluminium legs telescope to set working heights up to 6 m, with adjustable feet for uneven ground, and an included pulley allows a personnel winch or retrieval block to be mounted at the apex for lifting and lowering personnel. Manufactured by Columbus McKinnon under the Yale brand, supplied with test certificate and operating manual.

Key Features

  • Aluminium construction โ€” lightweight enough for two-person handling and set-up
  • 6 m maximum working height โ€” suits most confined space access and tank entry applications
  • Telescoping legs โ€” adjustable working height to suit the access point and entry geometry
  • Adjustable feet โ€” accommodate uneven ground surfaces โ€” typical of confined space entry locations
  • Pulley included โ€” mount a personnel winch or retrieval block at the apex for lifting and lowering
  • EN 795 Class B compliant โ€” certified transportable anchor device
  • Compatible with Yale winches and retrieval blocks โ€” complete confined space access system available from one supplier

More About This Product

The Yale CMHTM9 Personnel Tripod is an essential piece of confined space access and rescue equipment, providing a certified anchor point above a manhole, tank, or vessel entry. The aluminium tripod legs telescope to set working heights up to 6 m, with adjustable feet for use on uneven ground. A pulley is included for use with a rescue winch, allowing a personnel winch or retrieval block to be mounted at the apex for lifting and lowering of personnel. Manufactured by Columbus McKinnon under the Yale lifting brand, supplied with a manufacturer's test certificate and operating manual.

Suitable Applications

Essential for confined space entry โ€” manholes, tanks, vessels, silos, sewers, and any vertical access through a top opening. Used in combination with a personnel winch (for routine access and egress) and/or a retrieval block (for emergency rescue retrieval). Also suitable for general above-ground anchor applications where a transportable anchor is required.

How to Set Up and Use the Personnel Tripod

  1. Carry the tripod to the working location and inspect the legs, joints, apex, pulley, and feet for damage before set-up.
  2. Position the tripod so the apex is directly above the access point.
  3. Extend each leg to the working height and lock the leg adjusters. Verify all three legs are at equal length.
  4. Set the leg angle so the tripod feet are positioned in a stable triangle around the access point.
  5. Adjust the feet so the tripod stands vertically with all three feet bearing equally on the ground.
  6. Verify stability by applying weight to the apex from above โ€” the tripod must not flex or shift.
  7. Mount the personnel winch or retrieval block to the apex pulley as required.
  8. The tripod is now ready for personnel access via the winch or for fall arrest connection via the retrieval block.

Warning:
The tripod must be set up on stable ground with all three feet bearing equally. Never use the tripod on sloping or unstable ground without bracing. Never exceed the Working Load Limit of the tripod or its attached winch or block. The tripod must be inspected before each use โ€” withdraw from service if any leg joint, apex, or foot shows damage.

Safety Information

  • Set up on stable, level ground with all three feet bearing equally.
  • Verify stability by applying weight to the apex before use.
  • Never exceed the Working Load Limit of the tripod or the attached winch/block.
  • Always use the supplied pulley to mount a winch or block โ€” do not improvise mounting arrangements.
  • Inspect before each use โ€” withdraw from service if any damage is found.
  • Train all users in correct set-up before authorising use.
  • Verify legs are locked at equal length before applying load.

Inspection and Maintenance

Inspect the tripod legs (for distortion, dents, or wear), joints (for loose pivots or worn pins), apex (for cracks), feet (for wear), and pulley (for free rotation and damage) before each use. Clean using mild soapy water and air-dry. Store with the legs collapsed and protected from impact damage. Under the Work at Height Regulations 2005, a thorough examination must be carried out by a competent person at least every 6 months. Maximum service life is typically 10 years subject to inspection.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What is the working height of the CMHTM9?

Maximum 6 m at the apex. Working height is adjustable via telescoping legs to suit the access point.

Q: What is the Working Load Limit of the tripod?

Refer to the operating manual for the specific WLL. The tripod is certified as an EN 795 Class B anchor and is rated for personnel use with compatible winches and retrieval blocks.

Q: Does it come with a winch?

No. The tripod is supplied with the pulley but the personnel winch (or retrieval block) is sold separately. See the Yale Personnel Winches and the Yale CMHCRW30025 Retrieval Block.

Q: Can I use the tripod on uneven ground?

Yes, within the range of the adjustable feet. Where the ground is very uneven, additional bracing or platform stabilisation may be required.

Q: How many people are needed to set up the tripod?

Typically two โ€” one to hold the tripod vertical while the other extends and locks the legs. One competent person can set up the tripod with practice.

Q: Can the tripod be used with non-Yale winches and blocks?

The pulley accepts standard winch attachments, but for warranty and compliance reasons we recommend using Yale-compatible accessories. Verify any third-party equipment is rated to the relevant standards.

Q: How often must the tripod be inspected?

Pre-use inspection before every use, thorough examination by a competent person every 6 months.
