Yale Rescue Harness CMHYP10R with Rescue Anchorage Point

Model CMHYP10R | Fall Arrest and Rescue | Front, Rear D-Rings plus Rescue Anchorage | EN 361 and EN 1497 Compliant | CMCO Group Manufacture

The Yale CMHYP10R Rescue Harness combines the fall arrest specification of the standard Yale full body harness with an additional rescue anchorage point, for confined space entry, rescue retrieval, and any environment where the user may need to be evacuated under load. Front and rear D-rings provide standard fall arrest attachment, while the rescue anchorage point lets a retrieval system โ€” typically a winch and tripod โ€” lift the casualty out vertically without re-rigging. Manufactured by Columbus McKinnon under the Yale brand, supplied with test certificate and operating manual.

Key Features

  • Dedicated rescue anchorage point โ€” EN 1497 compliant, allows vertical retrieval of the user under load via a rescue winch or tripod
  • Front D-ring for fall arrest โ€” for use with rope grab fall arresters or front-mounted retractable blocks
  • Rear D-ring for fall arrest โ€” conventional fall arrest attachment for lanyards or retractable blocks
  • Combined fall arrest and rescue โ€” single harness for working at height and emergency retrieval โ€” no harness change required mid-incident
  • Adjustable shoulder, chest, and leg straps โ€” secure, comfortable fit
  • Polyester webbing construction โ€” abrasion-resistant, UV-stable, quick to dry
  • Confined space rated โ€” ideal for tank entry, vessel inspection, manhole work, and any task requiring planned rescue retrieval

CMCO Group | EN ISO 9001 Certified | EN 361 and EN 1497 Compliant | CE Marked

This product is manufactured by Columbus McKinnon under the Yale lifting brand to EN ISO 9001 quality management standards. Compliant with BS EN 361 for fall arrest harnesses and BS EN 1497 for rescue harnesses. Supplied with a manufacturer's test certificate and CE Declaration of Conformity. PPE Regulation (EU) 2016/425 Category III. LOLER 1998 and Work at Height Regulations 2005 require thorough examinations every 6 months by a competent person.

More About This Product

The Yale CMHYP10R Rescue Harness combines the fall arrest specification of the standard Yale full body harness with an additional rescue anchorage point, designed for use in confined space entry, rescue retrieval, and any working environment where the user may need to be evacuated under load. The front and rear D-rings provide standard fall arrest attachment, while the rescue anchorage point allows a rescue retrieval system (typically a winch and tripod) to lift the casualty out vertically without re-rigging. Manufactured by Columbus McKinnon under the Yale lifting brand, supplied with a manufacturer's test certificate and operating manual.

Suitable Applications

Essential for confined space entry โ€” tanks, vessels, manholes, silos, sewers, and any environment where the user may need to be retrieved vertically in an emergency. Also used in general construction work at height where a comprehensive rescue plan requires the casualty to be retrieved without re-rigging the fall arrest system. Should be specified alongside a personnel tripod and rescue winch (see the Yale CMHTM9 Personnel Tripod and CMHCRW30025 Retrieval Block) for a complete rescue system.

How to Fit and Use the Rescue Harness

  1. Carry out a pre-use visual and tactile inspection โ€” webbing, stitching, buckles, front and rear D-rings, and the rescue anchorage point.
  2. Hold the harness, untangle any twisted straps.
  3. Place the harness on like a jacket. Rear D-ring centres between the shoulder blades; front D-ring at sternum height.
  4. Fasten and adjust the chest strap.
  5. Fasten and adjust the leg strap quick connect buckles.
  6. Adjust the shoulder straps so all attachment points sit correctly.
  7. Verify the rescue anchorage point is freely accessible โ€” it should be reachable from above for connection to a rescue retrieval system.
  8. Connect to the front or rear D-ring for normal fall arrest. The rescue anchorage is reserved for emergency retrieval only.

Warning:
The rescue anchorage point is for emergency vertical retrieval only โ€” it is not a fall arrest attachment point. Fall arrest must use the front or rear D-ring. Plan and rehearse rescue procedures before commencing any task that requires this harness. The rescue plan must be in place before the user enters the working area.

Safety Information

  • Read and understand the manufacturer's operating manual before first use.
  • Carry out a pre-use visual and tactile inspection before every use, checking all webbing, stitching, buckles, and D-rings.
  • Withdraw the harness from service immediately if any damage, fraying, cuts, burns, or distorted hardware is found.
  • Always attach to a certified anchor point rated to a minimum of 12 kN (1200 kg).
  • Never use a harness that has arrested a fall โ€” it must be removed from service and inspected by a competent person before re-issue.
  • Ensure the harness is correctly sized and adjusted to the user before each use.
  • Train all users in the correct fitting, inspection, and use of the harness before authorising use at height.
  • The rescue anchorage point is for emergency retrieval only โ€” never as a fall arrest attachment.
  • A rescue plan must be in place and rehearsed before commencing confined space or similar work.

Inspection and Maintenance

Inspect the harness visually and by hand before each use, paying particular attention to webbing for cuts, fraying, burns, or chemical damage, stitching for breaks or pulled threads, buckles and adjusters for distortion or damage, and D-rings for cracks, wear, or deformation. Clean using warm water and a mild detergent only โ€” do not use solvents. Air-dry away from direct heat. Store in a clean, dry place away from direct sunlight, sharp objects, and chemicals. Under the Work at Height Regulations 2005 and PPE Regulations, a thorough examination must be carried out by a competent person at least every 6 months, with records kept. The maximum service life of a height safety harness is typically 10 years from date of first use, subject to inspection โ€” refer to the manufacturer's manual for the specific service life of your model.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What makes the CMHYP10R different from the standard CMHYP10?

The CMHYP10R adds an EN 1497 rescue anchorage point and a front fall arrest D-ring to the standard CMHYP10 specification. It's intended for tasks that may require emergency vertical retrieval of the user under load.

Q: What is a rescue anchorage point used for?

It allows a rescue retrieval system (typically a winch and tripod) to lift the casualty out of a confined space or fall arrest scenario without the rescuer needing to re-rig the harness or transfer the load.

Q: Can I use the rescue anchorage for fall arrest?

No. The rescue anchorage is rated for vertical retrieval only. Fall arrest must use the front or rear D-ring.

Q: Is this harness essential for confined space entry?

A rescue harness is strongly recommended for any planned entry into a confined space. The specific PPE required depends on your confined space risk assessment and rescue plan.

Q: Do I also need a tripod and winch?

Yes โ€” for a complete rescue system. See the Yale CMHTM9 Personnel Tripod, the Yale Personnel Winches, and the CMHCRW30025 Retrieval Block.

Q: How often should the harness be inspected?

Pre-use inspection by the operator, and a thorough examination by a competent person every 6 months.

Q: Is a test certificate included?

Yes. A manufacturer's test certificate is supplied with every harness.
