Yale Three Point Full Body Harness CMHYP20

Model CMHYP20 | Three Point Fall Arrest and Work Positioning | Front and Side D-Rings | EN 361 and EN 358 Compliant | CMCO Group Manufacture

The Yale CMHYP20 Three Point Full Body Harness combines fall arrest functionality with work positioning capability. A front D-ring provides fall arrest attachment for rope grabs and ladder fall arresters, while two side D-rings support work positioning belts and lanyards so the user can lean back against the attachment system and work hands-free at height. Adjustable shoulder, chest and leg straps with quick connect leg buckles deliver a comfortable, secure fit; manufactured by Columbus McKinnon under the Yale brand with test certificate and operating manual.

Key Features

  • Front D-ring for fall arrest โ€” compatible with rope grabs, ladder fall arresters, and front-mounted retractable blocks
  • Two side D-rings for work positioning โ€” supports the user in a leaning position for hands-free work at height with a work positioning lanyard
  • Integrated work positioning belt โ€” padded waist belt with two side D-rings, EN 358 compliant
  • Adjustable shoulder, chest, and leg straps โ€” for a secure, comfortable fit
  • Polyester webbing construction โ€” abrasion-resistant, UV-stable, quick to dry
  • Quick connect leg buckles โ€” fast and secure donning
  • Suitable for scaffold and structural steel work โ€” designed for trades that combine work positioning with fall arrest

CMCO Group | EN ISO 9001 Certified | EN 361 and EN 358 Compliant | CE Marked

This product is manufactured by Columbus McKinnon under the Yale lifting brand to EN ISO 9001 quality management standards. Compliant with BS EN 361 for fall arrest harnesses and BS EN 358 for work positioning. Supplied with a manufacturer's test certificate and CE Declaration of Conformity. PPE Regulation (EU) 2016/425 Category III. LOLER 1998 and Work at Height Regulations 2005 require thorough examinations every 6 months by a competent person.

Suitable Applications

Suited to scaffold erection, structural steel work, telecoms tower work, electricity pylon work, and any working environment where the user needs to be supported in a leaning position to work hands-free at height. Use with a fall arrest lanyard or block on the front D-ring, plus a work positioning lanyard on the two side D-rings. Where rear fall arrest or a four-point configuration is required, see the Yale Four Point Harness.

How to Fit and Use the Three Point Harness

  1. Carry out a pre-use visual and tactile inspection โ€” webbing, stitching, buckles, front D-ring, and both side D-rings.
  2. Hold the harness, untangle any twisted straps, and orient the work positioning belt at the waist position.
  3. Place the harness on like a jacket, ensuring the front D-ring sits at sternum height.
  4. Fasten and adjust the chest strap.
  5. Fasten and adjust the leg strap quick connect buckles.
  6. Position the work positioning belt around the waist, fasten the belt buckle, and adjust to a snug fit.
  7. Adjust the shoulder straps so all attachment points sit in their correct positions โ€” front D-ring at sternum height, side D-rings at hip height.
  8. For fall arrest, connect a compatible lanyard or block to the front D-ring. For work positioning, connect a work positioning lanyard to both side D-rings.

Warning:
The two side D-rings are for work positioning only and must be used as a pair โ€” never use a side D-ring as a fall arrest attachment point. The front D-ring is the only fall arrest attachment on this harness. Work positioning systems must be backed up with a separate fall arrest system where a fall risk exists.

Safety Information

  • Read and understand the manufacturer's operating manual before first use.
  • Carry out a pre-use visual and tactile inspection before every use, checking all webbing, stitching, buckles, and D-rings.
  • Withdraw the harness from service immediately if any damage, fraying, cuts, burns, or distorted hardware is found.
  • Always attach to a certified anchor point rated to a minimum of 12 kN (1200 kg).
  • Never use a harness that has arrested a fall โ€” it must be removed from service and inspected by a competent person before re-issue.
  • Ensure the harness is correctly sized and adjusted to the user before each use.
  • Train all users in the correct fitting, inspection, and use of the harness before authorising use at height.
  • The two side D-rings are for work positioning only โ€” never use as fall arrest attachment points.

Inspection and Maintenance

Inspect the harness visually and by hand before each use, paying particular attention to webbing for cuts, fraying, burns, or chemical damage, stitching for breaks or pulled threads, buckles and adjusters for distortion or damage, and D-rings for cracks, wear, or deformation. Clean using warm water and a mild detergent only โ€” do not use solvents. Air-dry away from direct heat. Store in a clean, dry place away from direct sunlight, sharp objects, and chemicals. Under the Work at Height Regulations 2005 and PPE Regulations, a thorough examination must be carried out by a competent person at least every 6 months, with records kept. The maximum service life of a height safety harness is typically 10 years from date of first use, subject to inspection โ€” refer to the manufacturer's manual for the specific service life of your model.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Is the CMHYP20 a fall arrest harness or a work positioning harness?

Both. The front D-ring provides EN 361 fall arrest capability, while the two side D-rings provide EN 358 work positioning capability. The integrated work positioning belt is included as standard.

Q: Can I use a side D-ring for fall arrest?

No. The side D-rings are for work positioning only โ€” they must never be used as fall arrest attachment points. Only the front D-ring is rated for fall arrest on the CMHYP20.

Q: Do I need both side D-rings to be loaded?

Yes. A work positioning lanyard should be connected to both side D-rings as a pair, supporting the user evenly. Loading only one side D-ring puts uneven load on the harness.

Q: Do I need a separate fall arrest system when work positioning?

Yes โ€” when a fall risk exists during work positioning, a separate fall arrest system (lanyard or retractable block on the front D-ring) must back up the work positioning system.

Q: How often should the harness be inspected?

Pre-use inspection by the operator, and a thorough examination by a competent person every 6 months.

Q: Is a test certificate included?

Yes. A manufacturer's test certificate is supplied with every harness.

Q: Can the harness be washed?

Yes โ€” using warm water and a mild detergent only. Air-dry away from direct heat or sunlight.
