Yale Work Positioning Device with Shortener

Work Positioning Lanyard with Shortener | 2m or 4m Length | Adjustable Working Length | EN 358 Compliant

The Yale Work Positioning Device is an adjustable work positioning lanyard with an integral shortener mechanism. The device connects between the two side D-rings on a work positioning harness and around a structure (such as a pole, tube, or column), allowing the user to lean back against the lanyard and work hands-free at height. The shortener allows the user to adjust the working length on the lanyard precisely to suit the working position. Available in 2 m and 4 m maximum lengths. Manufactured by Columbus McKinnon under the Yale lifting brand, supplied with a manufacturer's test certificate and operating manual.

CMCO Group | EN ISO 9001 Certified | EN 358 Compliant | CE Marked

This product is manufactured by Columbus McKinnon under the Yale lifting brand to EN ISO 9001 quality management standards. Compliant with BS EN 358 for work positioning lanyards. Supplied with a manufacturer's test certificate and CE Declaration of Conformity. PPE Regulation (EU) 2016/425 Category III. Work at Height Regulations 2005 require thorough examinations every 6 months by a competent person.

Technical Specifications

Model Part Number Maximum Length Adjustment Standard
CMHAF130-02 N37220029 2 m Shortener BS EN 358
CMHAF130-07 N37220030 4 m Shortener BS EN 358

Work positioning lanyard with shortener for hands-free working at height. Always use in conjunction with a separate fall arrest system as backup.

Key Features

  • Integral shortener mechanism โ€” adjust the working length on the lanyard precisely to suit the working position
  • Two length options โ€” 2 m for closer-quarter work positioning, 4 m for wider structures and reach
  • EN 358 compliant โ€” rated for work positioning use
  • Connects between side D-rings โ€” compatible with all Yale multi-point harnesses (CMHYP20, CMHYP35, CMHYP56A, CMHYP70)
  • Robust webbing construction โ€” abrasion-resistant for daily site use
  • EN 362 connectors at each end โ€” self-closing, self-locking snap hooks
  • Suitable for scaffold and tower work โ€” loops around standard scaffold tubes, telecoms tower legs, and structural steel

Suitable Applications

Essential for scaffold erection, telecoms tower work, electricity pylon work, structural steel work, and any task requiring the user to work hands-free in a leaning position at height. The 2 m variant suits closer-quarter work positioning around scaffold tubes and smaller structures; the 4 m variant suits larger structures such as telecoms towers and pylons. A work positioning lanyard must always be backed up with a separate fall arrest system where a fall risk exists.

How to Use the Work Positioning Device

  1. Inspect the lanyard, shortener mechanism, and both end-connectors before each use.
  2. Ensure the user is wearing a compatible multi-point harness with two side D-rings.
  3. Connect one end of the lanyard to one side D-ring on the harness.
  4. Pass the lanyard around the structure (pole, tube, or column).
  5. Connect the other end to the second side D-ring on the harness.
  6. Adjust the shortener to set the working length so the user is supported in a comfortable leaning position with feet braced.
  7. Lock the shortener at the chosen length before applying full load.
  8. Connect a separate fall arrest system between the harness front or rear D-ring and a certified overhead anchor as backup.

Warning: A work positioning lanyard does not provide fall arrest โ€” a separate fall arrest system must always be in place where a fall risk exists. Side D-rings are for work positioning only โ€” never use as fall arrest attachment points. The shortener must be locked at the chosen working length before applying full load โ€” never adjust under load.

Safety Information

  • Always use with a separate fall arrest backup system where a fall risk exists.
  • Side D-rings are for work positioning only โ€” never as fall arrest attachments.
  • Always inspect the lanyard and shortener before each use.
  • Always connect both ends to the two side D-rings โ€” never connect just one end.
  • Always lock the shortener at the working length before applying full load.
  • Never adjust the shortener while loaded.
  • Withdraw from service if any damage is found.

Inspection and Maintenance

Inspect the webbing, shortener mechanism, and both end-connectors before each use, paying attention to webbing for cuts or fraying, shortener for free operation and locking function, and connectors for distortion or gate damage. Clean using warm water and mild detergent only. Air-dry. Store in a clean, dry place away from sunlight and chemicals. Thorough examination by a competent person every 6 months. Maximum service life typically 10 years from date of first use, subject to inspection.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Which length should I choose?

The 2 m variant suits closer-quarter work positioning around scaffold tubes, columns, and smaller structures. The 4 m variant suits larger structures such as telecoms towers, pylons, and wind turbine sections.

Q: Can the work positioning device replace a fall arrest system?

No. Work positioning supports the user in a leaning position โ€” it does not arrest a fall. A separate fall arrest system must always be in place where a fall risk exists.

Q: Which harness is compatible with this device?

Any Yale multi-point harness with two work positioning side D-rings โ€” the Three Point CMHYP20, Four Point CMHYP56A, Two Point CMHYP35 (if work positioning belt is fitted), and Riggers CMHYP70.

Q: Can the shortener be adjusted under load?

No. Lock the shortener at the chosen working length before applying full load. Never adjust under load.

Q: Why must I connect both ends to side D-rings?

Work positioning loads the user evenly across the waist via the two side D-rings. Connecting only one end produces an uneven load and is not safe.

Q: Is this device suitable for tree surgery?

Yale work positioning devices are designed for industrial work positioning. Specialist arboriculture work positioning systems with different specifications are typically used for tree surgery.

Q: How often must the device be inspected?

Pre-use inspection before every use, thorough examination by a competent person every 6 months.
