Yale Yaletrac Aluminium Wire Rope Puller

Model Y 08/16/32 | Wire Rope Cable Puller | 800โ€“3200 daN Pulling Force | Aluminium Body

The Yale Yaletrac is a lightweight, compact wire rope cable puller with a high-tensile aluminium alloy housing for reduced weight without compromising strength, with pulling force ratings from 800 to 3200 daN covering medium to heavy industrial applications. The large flat bottom surface gives increased stability in both horizontal and vertical working positions. The forward and reversing levers are arranged in tandem for a slim profile with power transfer along the centre line โ€” the same robust Yaletrac mechanism as the ST series, in a lighter package.

Key Features

  • 800โ€“3200 daN pulling force โ€” Three ratings covering medium to heavy industrial pulling.
  • High-tensile aluminium alloy housing โ€” Lightweight construction โ€” significantly lighter than steel-body equivalents.
  • Tandem lever arrangement โ€” Slim design with power transfer along the centre line of the rope.
  • Large flat base โ€” Increased stability in both horizontal and vertical working positions.
  • Shearing-pin overload protection โ€” Sacrificial pin prevents accidental overload; spare pins housed in the carrying handle.
  • Quick rope installation โ€” Lever disengages rope clamp for fast threading without unloading.
  • Parallel clamping system โ€” Distributes clamping force to protect the rope from local damage.
  • Special flexible rope โ€” Six-strand steel-core rope with orange identification strand, eye and safety latch hook.

Suitable Applications

Industrial maintenance, construction site rigging, plant relocation, factory installation, shipyards, dock works, power line construction, and any operation requiring controlled pulling or tensioning where weight-saving and portability are advantageous.

How to Use the Yaletrac Wire Rope Puller

  1. Inspect the puller and rope before every use โ€” housing, levers, shearing pin, hook and rope condition.
  2. Anchor the puller body securely to a fixed structural point.
  3. Operate the release lever to open the rope clamp and insert the wire rope.
  4. Engage the rope clamp and connect the rope end hook to the load.
  5. Operate the forward lever in repeated strokes to pull the load.
  6. Use the reverse lever to pay out or lower under control.
  7. Disengage the rope clamp via the release lever to remove the rope after use.
  8. Inspect and clean the puller before returning to storage.

Warning:
Do not extend the hand lever with cheater bars or pipe extensions. Never exceed the rated pulling force โ€” if the shearing pin breaks, replace only with the original Yale spare from the carrying handle. Use only the Yale-supplied special flexible rope of the correct diameter; substitute ropes will not be gripped correctly by the parallel clamping system.

Safety Information

  • Never exceed the rated working load limit (WLL) displayed on the equipment.
  • Never use the equipment if any component shows visible damage, wear or deformation.
  • Keep all personnel clear of the lifted load at all times.
  • Do not modify, repair or substitute components other than as specified by the manufacturer.
  • Ensure the operator is trained, competent and authorised for the lifting operation.
  • Do not shock load the equipment under any circumstances.

Inspection and Maintenance

Inspect before each use โ€” focus on all load-bearing components, welds, hooks, safety latches, chain, rope and pendant controls. Thorough examination under LOLER 1998 is required at intervals not exceeding 6 months by a competent person. Replacement parts must be genuine manufacturer items to maintain certification. Records of all inspections must be retained for the life of the equipment.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Why choose the aluminium Yaletrac over the steel-body ST?

Choose the aluminium Yaletrac when weight matters โ€” portable site work, overhead installations, work-at-height tasks where every kilo carried up a ladder counts. The ST is better suited to fixed industrial use where impact resistance and lowest cost take priority.

Q: How does the shearing-pin overload protection work?

A calibrated sacrificial pin in the forward lever shears under excessive force, preventing damage to the puller or load. Spare pins are housed inside the carrying handle for field replacement. Always replace only with the original Yale spare โ€” using an incorrect pin defeats the protection.

Q: Can I share rope between the ST and standard Yaletrac?

No โ€” the standard Yaletrac uses a special flexible six-strand rope with steel core, while the ST uses a different rope specification. Always use the matched rope for each model.

Q: Is the OEM manual the same as the ST?

Yes โ€” Yale supplies a combined manual (104376) covering both Yaletrac and Yaletrac ST product lines.
