The Yale Yaletrac ST is a portable manual cable puller for pulling, lifting, lowering, tensioning and securing loads over long distances, engineered for industry, building construction, civil engineering, power line construction, shipbuilding and oil refineries. The housing of dimensionally stable deep-drawn steel plates ensures a compact, robust design, with axial ball bearings optimising the hand operating forces — easy to operate even at full WLL.
Key Features
- Deep-drawn steel housing for a compact, dimensionally stable, and robust design.
- Axial ball bearings reduce the operator force required at WLL, optimising hand-operating effort.
- Stable upright positioning due to the combined handle-and-foot design for ground-level operation.
- Telescopic hand lever (Y 10 ST and above) saves storage space and attaches to the unit via hook-and-pile fastener. The Y 05 ST uses a short fixed lever.
- Shearing pin overload protection in the forward lever prevents damage to the unit and rope. Spare shear pins are stored in the carrying handle and can be replaced without removing the load.
- Parallel clamping system distributes clamping forces evenly across the rope, protecting the rope and providing reliable grip.
- Long rope advance per stroke (up to 60mm) increases working speed.
- Tandem forward and reversing levers provide a slim design and optimal power transfer along the centre line.
- Rubber sleeves prevent dirt and dust ingress, increasing service life of the mechanical components.
- Special 6-strand wire rope with steel core, identified by an orange strand — tapered at one end for easy threading, fitted with an eye sling hook and safety latch at the other.

CE Marked & UKCA Compliant — Factory Tested with Overload
Every Yaletrac ST cable puller is factory tested with overload and is supplied with an EC Declaration of Conformity showing the serial number and an operating instruction manual. Fully compatible with LOLER 1998 (Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations) and PUWER 1998 (Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations).
Each unit is supplied complete with cable, eye sling hook with safety latch, and the Y 05 ST includes a webbing sling. Spare shear pins are stored in the carrying handle for quick replacement.
More About This Product
The Yale Yaletrac ST is a portable manual cable puller designed for pulling, lifting, lowering, tensioning and securing loads over long distances. Engineered for industry, building construction, civil engineering, power line construction, shipbuilding and oil refineries, the unit features a housing of dimensionally stable deep-drawn steel plates ensuring a compact and robust design. Axial ball bearings optimise the hand operating forces, making the unit easy to operate even at full WLL.
Suitable Applications
The Yaletrac ST is suited to a wide range of pulling, lifting and tensioning operations including construction site rigging, structural pulling, utility and power line work, civil engineering, shipbuilding, oil refineries, and heavy industrial maintenance. Its lightweight housing and tandem lever arrangement make it well suited to tight spaces and elevated work.
Pullers grip the rope through jaws sized to a specific diameter and construction. See winches and wire rope fittings.
How to Use the Yaletrac ST
- Inspect the unit before each use. Check the housing, forward and reversing levers, jaws and shearing pin for damage, wear or corrosion. Do not use if defects are found.
- Ensure exclusion zones are in place and a competent person is overseeing the operation.
- Attach the unit's hook to a secure anchor point rated for at least the WLL of the puller.
- Use the rope-clamp disengagement lever to open the clamping system, then feed the wire rope through the unit ensuring it engages correctly with the parallel clamping jaws.
- Connect the free end of the wire rope to the load using the supplied eye sling hook with safety latch.
- Operate the forward lever to apply tension progressively. The reversing lever can be used to release tension in a controlled manner.
- Do not exceed the rated WLL. If overload occurs, the shearing pin in the forward lever will fail in a controlled manner to protect the unit. A spare pin is stored in the carrying handle and can be replaced without removing the load.
- Release tension fully before disconnecting the unit from the anchor or load.
Important:
A site-specific risk assessment and lift plan must be completed before use. All personnel must be competent and briefed in accordance with LOLER 1998. The Yaletrac ST is not designed for passenger elevation and must not be used for this purpose.
Inspection and Maintenance
Inspect before every use, including checking the housing, levers, jaws and shearing pin for wear, deformation, or corrosion. Arrange thorough examination by a qualified engineer at least every 6 months when in regular use, in accordance with LOLER 1998. Remove from service if any component shows signs of deformation, cracks or corrosion. Replace the shearing pin if activated by an overload event before returning the unit to service. The large opening in the top of the unit allows easy cleaning — flush with water and apply motor oil for lubrication. Store in a clean, dry location when not in use.
Warranty & Support
All Yale Yaletrac ST cable pullers are covered by the Yale manufacturer warranty against defects in material and workmanship.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What is the maximum capacity of the Yaletrac ST?
The Yaletrac ST is available in four capacities: 500kg (Y 05 ST), 1000kg (Y 10 ST), 1600kg (Y 16 ST), and 3200kg (Y 32 ST). Select capacity based on the maximum anticipated load plus a safety factor.
Q: Is the hand lever telescopic?
The hand lever is telescopic on the Y 10 ST (800mm), Y 16 ST (790/1190mm) and Y 32 ST (790/1190mm), allowing space-saving storage. The Y 05 ST has a shorter fixed lever (260mm) which is not telescopic.
Q: How does the overload protection work?
A shearing pin in the forward lever fails in a controlled manner if the rated WLL is exceeded, protecting the unit and the rope. Spare shear pins are stored in the carrying handle and can be replaced without removing the load.
Q: What rope is supplied with each model?
A special flexible 6-strand wire rope with steel core (identified by an orange strand) is supplied with each unit. The Y 05 ST comes with 10m of 6mm rope; the Y 10 ST, Y 16 ST and Y 32 ST come with 20m of 8.4mm, 11.2mm and 16mm rope respectively. Each rope is tapered at one end for easy threading and fitted with an eye sling hook and safety latch.
Q: How often should the Yaletrac ST be inspected?
A visual inspection is required before every use. A thorough examination by a qualified engineer is required at least every 6 months for units in regular use, in accordance with LOLER 1998. Records of examination must be kept.
