Spark resistant ratchet lever hoists for pulling, tensioning and positioning loads in potentially explosive atmospheres.
A lever hoist is operated by a short throw handle and works in any orientation, which makes it the tool for tensioning, pulling, aligning flanges and drawing components into position, as well as for short vertical lifts. In a process plant, a tank farm or a paint area, those tasks come up constantly, and the standard steel unit is not acceptable in a classified zone.
Explosion protected versions apply the same approach used across the range: bronze plated load chain and hooks, non-sparking contact and impact surfaces, and materials selected to avoid friction sparking during operation.
Lever hoists generate substantial force from modest handle effort, which is exactly why they are misused. Never extend the handle with a bar or tube to gain leverage, since the hoist is designed around the force one person can apply to the standard lever, and a cheater bar takes it past its rated load without the operator realising. Keep the load chain straight and in line with the pull, avoid side loading the hooks, and let the free chaining mechanism take up slack rather than forcing it.
The spark resistance lives in the plating and the material selection, so wear that exposes base steel on chain or hooks compromises it. Inspect for that specifically, not just for the usual chain elongation and hook opening.
Confirm the equipment category and temperature class against your zone classification, and rate every accessory in the assembly to the same standard. LOLER thorough examination applies at least every twelve months.
