6 Tonne Duplex Webbing Sling

Plumalti | 6,000 kg WLL | 180mm Width | Brown | BS EN 1492-1 | CE Marked | UKCA Compliant

The Plumalti 6 Tonne Duplex Webbing Sling is a heavy-duty flat lifting sling manufactured from 100% high-tenacity polyester to BS EN 1492-1:2000. The 180mm wide brown-coded sling provides a Working Load Limit of 6,000 kg in a straight lift โ€” rising to 12,000 kg in a basket hitch configuration. The dual-layer (duplex) construction delivers outstanding strength, durability, and abrasion resistance for demanding commercial and industrial lifting operations. The soft polyester material protects finished surfaces, painted goods, and delicate loads from scratching or damage during handling. Brown colour-coded for instant WLL identification in accordance with the international colour standard. Each sling is fitted with a blue traceability label displaying the serial number, WLL, length, and mode factors for straight lift, choke, and basket configurations. Available in lengths from 2m to 10m.

CE Marked, UKCA Compliant & BS EN 1492-1 Certified

This product is CE marked in accordance with EU Machinery Directive 2006/42/EEC and is UKCA compliant for the Great Britain market. Manufactured to the performance requirements of BS EN 1492-1:2000 with a 7:1 safety factor โ€” the minimum breaking strength is seven times the stated Working Load Limit. Each sling is individually serialised and supplied with full traceability documentation. Following Brexit, the UK government has confirmed indefinite recognition of CE marking for lifting equipment in Great Britain, meaning businesses can use either UKCA or CE marked accessories provided the equipment is accompanied by a Declaration of Conformity (DoC).

Key Features

  • Manufactured to BS EN 1492-1:2000 โ€” produced from 100% high-tenacity polyester, tested and certified to the European harmonised standard for flat woven webbing slings
  • Duplex (two-layer) construction โ€” two layers of woven polyester stitched together provide superior strength, durability, and abrasion resistance for demanding lifting operations
  • Brown colour-coded for 6 Tonne WLL โ€” instant visual identification of Working Load Limit in accordance with the international colour standard
  • 180mm width โ€” distributes the lifting force over a wide bearing area, reducing localised pressure on both the sling and the load surface
  • 12,000 kg capacity in basket hitch โ€” in a basket configuration the effective WLL doubles, providing additional versatility for heavier loads
  • 42,000 kg minimum breaking strength โ€” the 7:1 safety factor provides an exceptional margin for site lifting operations
  • Soft, non-marking polyester โ€” won't scratch, dent, or damage loads during lifting, protecting painted surfaces, cladding, and finished goods
  • Blue traceability label โ€” individually serialised with WLL, length, mode factors, and manufacturer details for full LOLER inspection traceability
  • Low elongation (max 3%) โ€” predictable load behaviour under tension with minimal stretch for controlled positioning
  • Temperature range -40ยฐC to +100ยฐC โ€” suitable for all UK weather conditions and standard industrial environments

Sling Care and Storage on Construction Sites

  1. Dedicated sling storage โ€” provide a chain rack, storage box, or designated rack for all webbing slings on site. Slings left on the ground are exposed to vehicle traffic, sharp debris, chemical spills, and UV degradation.
  2. Keep slings dry where possible โ€” while polyester maintains its full rated capacity when wet, storing wet slings in enclosed containers can encourage mould growth on the surface. Hang slings to air dry before long-term storage.
  3. Protect from UV exposure โ€” prolonged direct sunlight degrades polyester fibres over time. Store slings under cover when not in use. Slings used primarily outdoors should be inspected more frequently for UV damage (surface chalking, fading, brittleness).
  4. Avoid chemical contact โ€” keep slings away from battery acid, cement additite chemicals, cleaning solvents, and hydraulic fluid leaks. While polyester resists most common oils, concentrated chemical exposure can weaken the fibres without visible damage.
  5. Segregate damaged slings โ€” any sling removed from service must be clearly marked and physically separated from serviceable slings. Cut damaged slings in half to prevent accidental re-use before disposal.
  6. Maintain inspection records โ€” keep a sling register recording each sling's serial number, capacity, date of first use, inspection dates, and condition. This supports LOLER compliance and makes thorough examinations more efficient.

Certification and Compliance

This product is CE marked in accordance with EU Machinery Directive 2006/42/EEC and is UKCA compliant for the Great Britain market. Manufactured to the performance requirements of BS EN 1492-1:2000 โ€” the European harmonised standard for flat woven webbing slings used in general purpose lifting operations. Each sling is produced with a 7:1 safety factor, individually serialised, and supplied with full traceability documentation including WLL, length, mode factors, and manufacturer identification. All lifting equipment used on UK construction sites must comply with the Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations 1998 (LOLER) and the Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998 (PUWER).

Safety Information

  • Never exceed the rated Working Load Limit (WLL) for the selected hitch configuration. A choke hitch reduces the WLL to 4,800 kg.
  • Inspect the sling before every use. Remove from service immediately if cuts, fraying, abrasion, heat damage, chemical contamination, or illegible labelling is found.
  • Do not use webbing slings on sharp-edged loads without protective corner sleeves or wear pads โ€” sharp edges can cut through the webbing under load.
  • Do not knot or twist the sling to shorten it. Knotting reduces the WLL by up to 50% and creates unpredictable failure points.
  • In multi-sling lifts, ensure the included angle between sling legs does not exceed 120ยฐ.
  • Do not expose polyester webbing slings to acids, bleaches, or strong alkalis.
  • Never stand under a suspended load. Ensure the lift area is clear of personnel before raising the load.
  • A risk assessment must be in place before any lifting operation. Operation only by competent persons trained in sling use and rigging techniques.

Inspection and Maintenance

Webbing slings must be visually inspected before each use and undergo a thorough examination at least every six months (or in accordance with an examination scheme) by a competent person under LOLER 1998. All inspections must be documented and records retained. Key inspection points include: cuts or tears in the webbing, abrasion damage or worn fibres, broken or damaged stitching, heat damage or melting, chemical contamination or staining, and legibility of the traceability label. Any sling showing signs of damage must be removed from service immediately. Webbing slings cannot be field-repaired โ€” damaged slings must be cut and disposed of to prevent re-use.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What colour is a 6 tonne webbing sling?

Brown. Under BS EN 1492-1, each WLL capacity has a designated colour for instant visual identification. Brown indicates 6 tonnes. The colour coding system allows operators to select the correct sling capacity quickly, even in poor lighting or at height.

Q: What is the strap width of a 6 tonne duplex sling?

The 6 tonne duplex sling has a strap width of 180mm. This wide bearing surface distributes the lifting force effectively, reducing localised pressure on both the sling and the load surface.

Q: Can webbing slings be used outdoors in wet weather?

Yes. Polyester webbing slings maintain their full rated capacity when wet, unlike nylon slings which can lose up to 15% of their strength. Polyester also resists water absorption, so the slings do not become significantly heavier when wet. Allow slings to air dry before long-term storage.

Q: What is the choke hitch capacity of a 6 tonne sling?

In a choke hitch, the WLL reduces to 4,800 kg (80% of the straight lift WLL). The choke configuration wraps the sling around the load and back through one eye, providing a secure grip on cylindrical or irregular loads but reducing the effective capacity.

Q: How should webbing slings be stored on site?

Store webbing slings hung on a dedicated sling rack or laid flat in a clean, dry container. Never leave slings on the ground where they can be driven over, contaminated with chemicals, or exposed to prolonged UV from direct sunlight. A purpose-built chain rack or storage box is the ideal solution.

Q: Are Plumalti slings CE marked?

Yes. All Plumalti duplex webbing slings are CE marked in accordance with EU Machinery Directive 2006/42/EEC and are UKCA compliant for the Great Britain market. Each sling is manufactured to BS EN 1492-1:2000, individually serialised, and supplied with full traceability documentation.

Q: What chemicals can damage polyester slings?

Polyester is resistant to most common construction chemicals, oils, and solvents. However, strong alkalis, concentrated acids, and bleaches can degrade polyester fibres. If your application involves chemical exposure, contact our technical team for guidance on chemical compatibility.

Q: What is the maximum sling angle for safe lifting?

The included angle between sling legs in a multi-sling lift should never exceed 120ยฐ. As the angle increases beyond 90ยฐ, the load on each sling increases dramatically. At 120ยฐ, each sling carries the full weight of the load. Most operations use angles between 60ยฐ and 90ยฐ.
