The Camlok CLB and CLT container lifting lugs are flexible attachment points for the transport of ISO shipping containers by crane. The CLB mounts laterally at the bottom fixing hole of the container with a spring-loaded bolt preventing accidental release, while the CLT mounts to the top corner casting — both designed for 4-point lifts and supplied in sets of 4 pieces. Manufactured to the heavy-duty standards required for container handling at ports, depots, construction sites and offshore installations.

Key Features

  • Two capacity ratings — 40,000 kg (N53508014) and 56,000 kg (N53508016) WLL per set of 4 lugs, covering the full range of ISO container weights.
  • Spring-loaded bolt on CLB — prevents accidental release once the lug is engaged in the container's bottom fixing hole.
  • Top-mount CLT variant — fits the top corner casting of an ISO container for crane attachment from above.
  • Heavy-duty forged steel — designed for repeated port, depot and construction-site container lifts.
  • Supplied in sets of 4 — one lug per container corner, ready for 4-point lifting.

Technical Specifications

Long Item # WLL (set of 4)

CE Marked, UKCA Compliant & Rated for ISO Container Lifting

The Camlok CLB and CLT lifting lugs are CE marked, UKCA compliant, and manufactured to the standards required for ISO container handling. Fully compatible with LOLER 1998 (Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations) and PUWER 1998 when correctly selected, attached and inspected. Always supplied with certification and traceability documentation.

Suitable Applications

Container lifting at ports, depots, container yards, construction sites, oil and gas installations, and modular building sites. Typical uses include loading and unloading shipping containers from trailers and rail wagons, repositioning containers on site, and lifting purpose-built container-based plant rooms, offices, and workshops.

How to Use Safely

  1. Inspect each lug before use. Check the body, hook profile, spring-loaded bolt (CLB) and engagement surfaces for damage, wear or corrosion. Do not use if defects are found.
  2. Verify the gross weight of the container does not exceed the rated WLL of the set (40,000 kg or 56,000 kg).
  3. For CLB: engage each lug into the bottom corner-fitting hole at the appropriate orientation and confirm the spring-loaded bolt has snapped into place.
  4. For CLT: engage each lug into the top corner casting of the container.
  5. Connect a suitably rated 4-leg chain or wire-rope sling assembly to the four lugs. The sling assembly must be rated for the container's gross weight.
  6. Confirm exclusion zones are in place and that a competent banksman or signaller is overseeing the lift.
  7. Lift slowly with the crane, monitoring all four lug engagements at the initial lift. Stop and re-engage if any lug shows signs of slip or release.
  8. After landing, fully relieve load on the lugs before disengaging the spring-loaded bolts and removing the lugs.

Inspection and Maintenance

A visual inspection is required before every use. A thorough examination by a qualified engineer is required at least every 6 months in regular use, in accordance with LOLER 1998. Records of examination must be kept. Refer to the manufacturer's manual for detailed inspection and maintenance instructions, derating factors for use, and replacement schedules for any wearing components.

Warranty & Support

Supplied with manufacturer's certification, identification, and operating instructions. WOLFF Onsite offers post-sales support including spares, certified inspection, and replacement. Contact our team for advice on selection, sizing, and application-specific configurations.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What is the difference between CLB and CLT?

CLB is the bottom-mount variant — it engages laterally into the bottom corner-fitting hole of an ISO container, with a spring-loaded bolt to prevent accidental release. CLT is the top-mount variant — it engages into the top corner casting of an ISO container for crane attachment from above. The CLB is more common for lifting where access to the top corners is limited.

Q: Are the lugs supplied individually or in sets?

Container lifting lugs are supplied as a set of 4 — one for each corner of the container. The rated WLL (40,000 kg or 56,000 kg) is the combined rating for the set used as designed (4-point lift).

Q: Can I use these for non-ISO containers or custom load attachment?

No. The Camlok CLB and CLT are specifically engineered for ISO standard corner fittings on shipping containers. They must not be used on bespoke containers, non-standard corner castings, or as general-purpose lifting eyes.

Q: How often should the container lugs be inspected?

A visual inspection is required before every use. A thorough examination by a qualified engineer is required at least every 6 months for lugs in regular use, in accordance with LOLER 1998. Records of examination must be kept.
