How to Use Safely
- Inspect each lug before use. Check the body, hook profile, spring-loaded bolt (CLB) and engagement surfaces for damage, wear or corrosion. Do not use if defects are found.
- Verify the gross weight of the container does not exceed the rated WLL of the set (40,000 kg or 56,000 kg).
- For CLB: engage each lug into the bottom corner-fitting hole at the appropriate orientation and confirm the spring-loaded bolt has snapped into place.
- For CLT: engage each lug into the top corner casting of the container.
- Connect a suitably rated 4-leg chain or wire-rope sling assembly to the four lugs. The sling assembly must be rated for the container's gross weight.
- Confirm exclusion zones are in place and that a competent banksman or signaller is overseeing the lift.
- Lift slowly with the crane, monitoring all four lug engagements at the initial lift. Stop and re-engage if any lug shows signs of slip or release.
- After landing, fully relieve load on the lugs before disengaging the spring-loaded bolts and removing the lugs.
Inspection and Maintenance
A visual inspection is required before every use. A thorough examination by a qualified engineer is required at least every 6 months in regular use, in accordance with LOLER 1998. Records of examination must be kept.
