The Camlok CR single rail clamp is designed for suspending loads directly from a crane rail or beam during temporary lifting and rigging operations. Manufactured by Columbus McKinnon to industrial standards, the CR series provides a fast, certified attachment point that fits a wide range of common rail and beam profiles. Available as a standard clamp or pre-fitted with a connecting chain (W/ CHAIN variant) for rapid deployment.

Key Features

  • Single rail clamp design — specifically engineered for suspending loads directly from a crane rail or beam during rigging operations.
  • Two capacity ratings — CR1000 at 1000 kg WLL and CR2000 at 2000 kg WLL, covering most light-to-medium-duty rail applications.
  • Standard or pre-chained — choose the standard clamp for use with your existing rigging, or the W/ CHAIN variant for a ready-to-deploy connecting chain.
  • Forged steel construction — for repeated lifting cycles and long service life.
  • Certified and traceable — every clamp supplied with certification and identification for full LOLER traceability.

CE Marked, UKCA Compliant & LOLER 1998 Ready

The Camlok CR single rail clamp is CE marked and UKCA compliant, manufactured to relevant European lifting standards. Fully compatible with LOLER 1998 (Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations) and PUWER 1998 (Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations) when correctly selected and inspected.

Suitable Applications

Used in construction, fabrication, maintenance and industrial rigging where a temporary lifting or anchor point is required on a crane rail, runway beam, or similar steel section. Common applications include suspending hoists, lever blocks, pulley systems, or chain blocks from overhead rails for short-duration tasks where a permanent attachment point is not available.

How to Use Safely

  1. Inspect the clamp before each use. Check the body, jaws, hinge mechanism, screw thread, and any supplied chain for damage, wear or corrosion. Do not use if defects are found.
  2. Ensure the rail or beam profile is suitable for the clamp. Verify that the rail/beam material and section are rated to carry the applied load.
  3. Open the clamp jaws fully, position the clamp over the rail flange, and tighten the screw to engage the jaws firmly against the rail.
  4. Confirm secure attachment by light testing before applying the full load. The clamp should not slip or rotate.
  5. For the W/ CHAIN variant, the supplied chain provides the connection point for the load below. For the STD variant, attach your rigging directly to the clamp's lifting eye via a suitable shackle.
  6. Apply the load progressively. Monitor the clamp throughout the operation for any signs of movement, deformation or slip.
  7. After use, fully relieve load before loosening the screw and removing the clamp from the rail.

Inspection and Maintenance

A visual inspection is required before every use. A thorough examination by a qualified engineer is required at least every 6 months in regular use, in accordance with LOLER 1998. Records of examination must be kept. Refer to the manufacturer's manual for detailed inspection and maintenance instructions, derating factors for use, and replacement schedules for any wearing components.

Warranty & Support

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: When should I choose the W/ CHAIN variant?

Choose the W/ CHAIN variant when you need a ready-to-deploy package — the connecting chain is pre-fitted and rated to match the clamp's WLL. Choose the STD (standard) variant if you have suitable rigging chain, slings or other connecting hardware already on site.

Q: What rail or beam sizes does the Camlok CR fit?

The Camlok CR is designed to clamp onto a range of standard crane rail and beam flange profiles. Always verify the flange width and thickness of your specific rail against the clamp's rated jaw opening before use. Contact us with your rail specification if you need to confirm compatibility.

Q: Can I use the CR clamp for repeated dynamic lifts?

The CR is designed for static suspension of loads (e.g. hanging a chain block from a rail). Repeated dynamic lifts impose additional considerations under DIN 15020 and LOLER 1998 — consult a competent person for designs involving frequent load cycling.

Q: How often should the CR clamp be inspected?

A visual inspection is required before every use. A thorough examination by a qualified engineer is required at least every 6 months for clamps in regular use, in accordance with LOLER 1998. Records of examination must be kept.
