Camlok HGC Hand Grip Clamps

250kg WLL | Manual Hand Grip Plate Clamps | Base, Extended Handle (EX) or Eye Bolt (EB) Variants | CE Marked

Product Overview

The Camlok HGC hand grip clamp is a manual two-person plate-handling tool for repositioning thin sheet, plate, and similar flat stock without requiring a crane or lifting frame. Rated at 250 kg WLL across the range, with three configuration options: the standard HGC250 base unit, the HGC250 EX extended handle variant for improved leverage and ergonomics, and the HGC250 EB eye-bolt variant for attachment to a chain block or sling. All three accept 0โ€“10 mm material in the jaws.

CE Marked, UKCA Compliant & LOLER Ready

The Camlok HGC hand grip clamp is CE marked, UKCA compliant, and supplied with manufacturer's certification. Fully compatible with LOLER 1998 and PUWER 1998 when used within rated capacity. Refer to the Camlok HGC technical bulletin for important guidance on safe use, derating factors, and updated operating instructions.

Specifications by Model

Model WLL Jaw Capacity Configuration
HGC250 250 kg 0 โ€“ 10 mm Standard hand grip
HGC250 EX 250 kg 0 โ€“ 10 mm Extended handle (improved leverage)
HGC250 EB 250 kg 0 โ€“ 10 mm Eye Bolt (for chain/sling attachment)

Key Features & Benefits

  • 250 kg WLL — across all three variants, with 0โ€“10 mm jaw capacity for sheet and thin plate material.
  • Three configurations — standard base HGC250, extended handle HGC250 EX for better leverage, or eye-bolt HGC250 EB for crane / chain block attachment.
  • Two-person handling — designed for manual repositioning of plate by two operators, eliminating the need for crane assistance on light moves.
  • Self-locking grip — gripping force increases with load โ€” secure engagement under weight.
  • Forged construction — compact, lightweight, and built for daily use in fabrication and sheet metal environments.

Typical Applications

Manual sheet metal handling in fabrication shops, joineries, sign-making, glazing, and light steelwork. Repositioning thin plate, panel material, MDF, plywood, and similar flat stock between work stations without crane assistance. Use the HGC250 EB variant when attaching to a chain block or lifting sling for short-lift assistance.

How to Use Safely

  1. Inspect the clamp before each use. Check the body, jaws, grip mechanism, handles (or eye bolt on EB variant) for damage, wear or corrosion. Refer to the Camlok HGC technical bulletin for any updated operating guidance.
  2. Verify the material thickness is within the 0โ€“10 mm jaw capacity. Confirm the material is sound and the gripping surface is clean and dry.
  3. Open the jaws fully and engage them onto the edge of the sheet/plate. Push the clamp firmly home so the material is fully seated in the jaws.
  4. Confirm the locking/grip mechanism has engaged (consult the manual for the specific lever or cam action on your variant).
  5. For HGC250 / HGC250 EX: handle the load with two operators, one per clamp on either side of the sheet, maintaining vertical lift orientation throughout the move.
  6. For HGC250 EB: attach a suitably rated chain block or sling to the eye bolt and lift vertically only.
  7. Do not exceed the rated 250 kg WLL. Do not use on greasy, painted, or otherwise contaminated material surfaces that may compromise grip.
  8. After repositioning, lower the load fully, disengage the grip, and remove the clamp.

Inspection & Maintenance

A visual inspection is required before every use. A thorough examination by a qualified engineer is required at least every 6 months in regular use, in accordance with LOLER 1998. Records of examination must be kept. Refer to the manufacturer's manual for detailed inspection and maintenance instructions, derating factors for use, and replacement schedules for any wearing components.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which HGC variant should I choose?

Choose the standard HGC250 for general manual sheet handling. Choose the HGC250 EX (extended handle) if you handle plate frequently and want improved leverage and ergonomics for the operator. Choose the HGC250 EB (eye bolt) if you need to attach the clamp to a chain block, sling, or other lifting device for vertical lift assistance.

Is the HGC for one-person or two-person use?

The HGC250 and HGC250 EX are designed for two-person manual handling โ€” one operator per clamp, positioned on opposite edges of the sheet for balanced control. The HGC250 EB is designed for use with a lifting attachment (chain block or sling) rather than direct manual carry.

Will the HGC damage my material?

The HGC grip mechanism produces indentations on softer materials under load. For non-marking sheet handling, refer to the Camlok LJ or TSB non-marring plate clamp ranges.

How often should the HGC be inspected?

A visual inspection is required before every use, including review of the Camlok technical bulletin for any updated guidance. A thorough examination by a qualified engineer is required at least every 6 months for clamps in regular use, in accordance with LOLER 1998. Records of examination must be kept.
