The Camlok TTB spreader beam is a specialist lifting attachment for handling bulk bags — also known as FIBCs (Flexible Intermediate Bulk Containers) or "big bags" — by overhead crane. The 1090 mm spreader beam keeps the bag's four lifting loops separated under load, preventing the loops converging on the crane hook and ensuring the bag opens stably for safe transport and discharge. Rated at 2000 kg WLL, it suits the majority of FIBC sizes used in industrial bulk handling.

Suitable Applications

Lifting and transporting bulk bags / FIBCs by overhead crane in construction (cement, sand, gravel), agriculture (fertilisers, grain), chemical processing (powdered chemicals, polymers), food manufacturing (flour, sugar, starches), recycling, and waste handling. The spreader keeps the bag stable during lifts, transport, and discharge into hoppers, silos, or mixers.

How to Use Safely

1. Inspect the spreader beam before each use. Check the beam, four corner connection points, lifting eye, and any included shackles for damage, wear or corrosion. Do not use if defects are found.
2. Verify the bag's gross weight (bag + contents) does not exceed the rated 2000 kg WLL of the spreader.
3. Position the spreader directly above the bag. Lower the four lifting loops over the spreader's four corner attachment points one at a time, ensuring each loop is fully seated.
4. Verify all four loops are correctly engaged and the bag is hanging symmetrically under the beam.
5. Attach the crane hook (with shackle if required) to the spreader's central lifting eye. Confirm hook safety latch is engaged.
6. Lift slowly to a low test-lift height. Confirm all four loops remain engaged, the bag is hanging level, and there is no slippage or excessive deformation of the bag.
7. Proceed with the lift, maintaining slow controlled motion. Do not allow the bag to swing or rotate uncontrolled.
8. For discharge: position the bag over the receiving vessel, release the bottom spout (if fitted), and allow the contents to discharge under gravity.
9. After discharge or landing, fully relieve load before disengaging the four loops from the spreader corners.

Inspection and Maintenance

A visual inspection is required before every use. A thorough examination by a qualified engineer is required at least every 6 months in regular use, in accordance with LOLER 1998. Records of examination must be kept. Refer to the manufacturer's manual for detailed inspection and maintenance instructions, derating factors for use, and replacement schedules for any wearing components.
