Conquip Concrete Skip Without Bale Arm

Crane-lifted concrete column skip with four-point lifting attachment. Six capacities from 500l to 4000l, supplied complete with a 4-leg chain sling and 3-metre discharge hose.

The Conquip Concrete Skip Without Bale Arm is a heavy-duty crane-lifted skip for transporting and pouring wet concrete, lifted via four lifting points and the supplied four-leg chain sling instead of a single-point bale arm. The four-point geometry delivers a balanced, lower-profile lift suited to restricted headroom and pours where it provides better control. Six capacities run from 500 litres to 4000 litres, each supplied with a 3-metre reinforced discharge hose with pull rope, deflector plate, grout tray and spring retractor.

Key Features

  • Four-point lifting configuration delivers a balanced, lower-profile lift compared with single-point bale arm skips
  • Supplied complete with a four-leg chain sling rated to match the skip capacity - no separate sling required
  • 3-metre length of reinforced rubber discharge hose with pull rope supplied complete
  • Reinforced gate mechanism reduces gate wear and jamming over repeated cycles
  • Strong spring retractor ensures automatic closing of the discharge gate when pouring is complete
  • Deflector plate prevents concrete splashing personnel or contaminating the ground when the gate opens and closes
  • Grout tray collects any excess concrete during flow gate operation
  • Conical bottom geometry directs concrete to the discharge gate for controlled column pours
  • Six capacities from 500l to 4000l covering small infills through to large structural pours
  • 4000l capacity is the largest concrete column skip in the Conquip range
  • Heavy-duty steel construction withstands repeated heavy site use
  • Lower-profile lift suits restricted headroom and tall column pours where bale arm clearance is limited

More About This Product

The Conquip Concrete Skip Without Bale Arm, also known as the Balearmless concrete skip, is a heavy-duty crane-lifted skip for transporting and pouring wet concrete. Instead of a single-point bale arm, the skip uses four lifting points around the body, lifted with the supplied four-leg chain sling. This configuration delivers a balanced, lower-profile lift that suits restricted headroom and applications where the four-point geometry provides better control during the pour. The range covers six capacities from 500 litres up to 4000 litres - the largest concrete column skip in the Conquip range. Each skip is supplied complete with a 3-metre length of reinforced rubber discharge hose with pull rope, deflector plate, grout tray, spring retractor for the discharge gate, and the four-leg chain sling required for the lift.

Optional Accessories

The following optional modifications are available to improve safety and flexibility on site:

  • Extended Flow Gate Handle: Removes the operative from underneath the skip when operating the flow gate
  • Hose Guide: Allows operatives to position the hose during a pour without standing underneath the skip
  • Bauer Connection: Quick-release system for switching between different hose lengths without refitting hose clips
  • Blowout Attachment: Allows clearing of concrete pump lines into the skip after use, minimising concrete waste

Suitable Applications

The Concrete Skip Without Bale Arm suits any application where a four-point balanced lift is preferred over a single-point bale arm - particularly tall column pours where headroom above the formwork is restricted, or larger pour capacities (3000l and 4000l) not available in the bale arm range. The 500l-2000l sizes serve as direct alternatives to the equivalent bale arm skips. The 3000l and 4000l sizes are reserved for major structural pours, including large columns, walls, and slab pours where minimising crane cycles is a priority on RC frame and major civils projects.

How to Use

  1. Carry out a pre-use inspection: skip body, four lifting points, supplied chain sling, hooks, gate mechanism, discharge hose
  2. Position the skip on a stable surface for filling
  3. Verify the gate is fully closed and locked before filling
  4. Fill the skip from a concrete delivery vehicle or batching plant - do not exceed the rated capacity
  5. Attach the supplied four-leg chain sling to the four lifting points around the skip body, ensuring all hooks are fully engaged
  6. Connect the master link of the chain sling to the crane hook
  7. Take the strain slowly and verify the skip is balanced before completing the lift
  8. At the pour location, position the skip directly above the formwork or feed the discharge hose into the placement
  9. Pull the gate lever to discharge concrete at a controlled rate
  10. Once empty, return the skip to ground level for reuse

Warning:
Concrete weight must be calculated and confirmed within the skip's safe working capacity. Wet concrete weighs approximately 2400 kg/m3. Never exceed the rated capacity. All four chain sling legs must be engaged for every lift; never lift this skip with a partial sling configuration. Inspect skip and chain sling before every use under LOLER 1998.

Safety Information

  • Wet concrete weighs approximately 2400 kg/m3 - verify the loaded weight is within the skip's WLL
  • Pre-use inspection required before every lift; thorough examination every six months under LOLER 1998
  • All four chain sling legs must be engaged for every lift
  • Self-locking hooks on the chain sling must be fully engaged with safety latches activated
  • Discharge gate must be fully closed and locked before filling and during transit
  • Spring retractor must be functional to ensure automatic gate closing
  • Skips with damaged frames, worn lifting points, or compromised gate mechanisms must be removed from service immediately
  • Chain slings with damaged links, deformed hooks, or worn safety latches must be replaced before use
  • Lifting must be carried out by a competent crane operator with a trained banksman or signaller
  • Do not stand directly beneath a loaded concrete skip during lifting or pouring
  • Use Extended Flow Gate Handle and Hose Guide where available to keep operatives clear of the danger zone

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Why use this version instead of the bale arm version?

The four-point lift gives a balanced, lower-profile attachment compared with a single-point bale arm. This is preferred for tall column pours where headroom above the formwork is restricted, or where the larger capacities (3000l and 4000l, not available with bale arm) are needed.

Q: Is a chain sling included?

Yes - every Concrete Skip Without Bale Arm is supplied complete with a four-leg chain sling rated to match the skip capacity. No separate sling needs to be purchased.

Q: What is the largest capacity available?

4000 litres is the largest capacity in the Conquip range. This is the heavy-duty option for major structural pours, large columns, walls, and slab pours where minimising crane cycles is a priority.

Q: What is included with the skip?

Each skip is supplied complete with a 4-leg chain sling, a 3-metre length of reinforced rubber discharge hose, pull rope, deflector plate, grout tray, and spring retractor for the discharge gate.

Q: Can I use my own chain sling instead?

Yes, provided the chain sling is rated for the skip capacity (including concrete weight) and is LOLER-compliant with current test certification. The supplied sling is matched to the skip and is the recommended option.

Q: What optional extras can I add?

The same optional modifications available for the bale arm version: Extended Flow Gate Handle, Hose Guide, Bauer Connection, and Blowout Attachment.
