Pfaff-Silberblau SJ Steel Jack

Model SJ | Capacity 1,500 kg to 10,000 kg | Lift 350 to 410 mm | DIN 7355 Compliant | Raku Ratchet Crank | German Engineered

The Pfaff-Silberblau SJ is a mechanical steel jack manufactured to DIN 7355, designed for lifting, supporting, and bracing loads in maintenance and repair, shipbuilding, construction, and agricultural applications. The SJ is supplied as standard with a Raku ratchet crank for confined-space operation. The load is supported on either the lifting claw (low-clearance pickup) or the head, with no reduction in rated capacity. The self-energising load brake holds the load securely in any position when the crank is released.

CE & UKCA Marked | DIN 7355 Compliant | German Engineered

Pfaff-Silberblau is part of the Columbus McKinnon group, one of the world's largest manufacturers of motion technology and lifting equipment. This product is CE marked (EU Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC) and UKCA marked (UK Supply of Machinery (Safety) Regulations 2008), manufactured to DIN 7355 (Steel jacks acc. to DIN), and is supplied with a Declaration of Conformity. LOLER 1998 thorough examinations are required every 12 months by a competent person after initial certification.

Technical Specifications

Model Article No. Capacity (kg) Height A (mm) Lift (mm) Hand Effort at WLL (daN) Weight (kg)
SJ 15 N01900005 1,500 725 360 28 17
SJ 30 N01900002 3,000 735 360 28 20
SJ 50 N01900003 5,000 730 350 28 27
SJ 100 N01900006 10,000 800 410 56 43

Height of Lift = Height A + Lift. Standard supply with Raku ratchet crank. Siku and Sifeku cranks available, see our Pfaff Cranks product. The SJ 100 requires 56 daN at WLL, optional Worm Gear Drive S20/S24 reduces effort.

Key Features

  • Precisely machined gearbox: Optimal gear ratio ensures minimum operator effort and smooth operation.
  • Hardened gearing parts: Low wear and extended service life under demanding industrial conditions.
  • Load held in any position: Self-energising load brake generates axial pressure proportional to load weight, securely holding the load when the crank is released.
  • Robust steel construction: Steel design with toothed rack of solid material for industrial and outdoor use.
  • Load support on claw or head: No reduction of capacity when lifting on the claw, full WLL available at any rated position.
  • Four standard capacities: 1,500 kg, 3,000 kg, 5,000 kg, and 10,000 kg.
  • Raku ratchet crank standard: Enables operation in confined spaces with partial-swing operation.
  • DIN 7355 compliance: Manufactured to the German industrial standard recognised across European industrial applications.

Suitable Applications

The Pfaff SJ is the universal industrial steel jack. Typical applications: vehicle and machinery maintenance, shipbuilding and dry dock work, construction and steel erection, agricultural maintenance, rail track work, and warehouse equipment installation.

How to Use the Pfaff-Silberblau SJ Steel Jack

  1. Confirm rated capacity: Verify the WLL stamped on the jack matches or exceeds the load weight.
  2. Position on a firm surface: Place the jack on level, firm ground capable of supporting the load.
  3. Position the load: Centre the load directly above the claw or head, ensuring vertical alignment. No side-loading.
  4. Engage the load: Slowly raise the claw or head until stable contact with the load.
  5. Lift using the crank: Apply steady, controlled rotation. The load brake holds position automatically when the crank is released.
  6. Lower the load: Reverse crank direction to lower at a controlled rate.

Warning: Pfaff jacks are not for passenger lifting. Never use on soft ground, ice, or unstable surfaces. The SJ 100 requires 56 daN at WLL, plan for two operators or use the Worm Gear Drive accessory.

Safety Information

  • Always inspect the jack before each use (base plate, rack, gear housing, crank).
  • Never exceed the Working Load Limit stamped on the jack body.
  • Use only the manufacturer-approved crank, never with extension bars or mechanical drives.
  • Never use on soft ground, ice, or unstable surfaces.
  • Never side-load, angle-load, or use the jack to lift persons.
  • For sustained load support, place additional supports beside the jack before any work beneath the load.
  • LOLER 1998 thorough examination required every 12 months where used as lifting equipment.
  • SJ 100 requires 56 daN at WLL, plan for two operators or optional Worm Gear Drive.

Inspection and Maintenance

Inspect rack, gear housing, claw, and crank before each use. Lubricate annually. The load brake is sealed and self-adjusting. WOLFF Onsite provides LOLER inspection, spare parts, and overhaul services for all Pfaff jack capacities.

Optional Accessories

  • Pfaff Cranks: Replacement Raku, Siku, or Sifeku cranks. See Pfaff Cranks product.
  • Pfaff Worm Gear Drive S20 / S24: Hand-operated gearbox accessory for low-effort operation.
  • LOLER inspection and overhaul service: WOLFF Onsite provides full LOLER inspection.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What's the difference between SJ and STW-F?

Both are fixed-claw steel jacks. The SJ is supplied with Raku ratchet crank as standard. The STW-F is available with either Siku or Raku and has slightly different base plate proportions. Choose SJ where Raku is preferred; STW-F where crank options or different dimensional footprint matters.

Q: Can I lift on the claw without reducing capacity?

Yes. There is no reduction in rated capacity when the load is supported on the lifting claw.

Q: What hand effort is needed at full load?

SJ 15, 30, and 50 share 28 daN at WLL (single operator). SJ 100 requires 56 daN, plan for two operators or use the Worm Gear Drive S20/S24.

Q: How often does it need LOLER inspection?

LOLER 1998 (UK) requires thorough examination every 12 months by a competent person.

Q: How does the self-energising load brake work?

When load is applied to the jack head or claw, axial pressure proportional to the load weight is generated inside the brake. The brake force always matches the actual load, never under-braking or over-braking. The load is held securely in any position when the crank is released, no operator action required.

Q: Is the SJ suitable for outdoor or marine environments?

Yes, the SJ has hardened steel construction suitable for outdoor and marine use. For aggressive corrosion environments (offshore, chemical), specify the zinc-plated crank option and consider periodic external corrosion treatment of the jack body. Special corrosion-resistant variants are available on request from Pfaff.

Q: Can the SJ be retrofitted to use a Siku or Sifeku crank instead of Raku?

Yes, the SJ gearbox shaft accepts all matching Pfaff cranks (Raku, Siku, Sifeku). Order the appropriate crank by article number, see our Pfaff Cranks product. Sifeku is recommended for vertical lifting applications where crank retention under load matters.
