Lifting-gear specialists in Sheffield & London — phone & email

The Yale CPA/VTG ATEX combines a heavy-duty pneumatic chain hoist with an integrated manually-operated geared beam trolley, providing full lifting and lateral positioning capability from a single ATEX-certified unit. Available across six variants from 2000 kg to 10000 kg with a standard 3 m lift, it is engineered for the most demanding continuous-duty applications in Zone 1 and Zone 21 hazardous areas, with 100% duty rating and unlimited motor starts.

Key Features

  • Heavy-duty pneumatic hoisting — 100% duty rating and unlimited motor starts for continuous industrial use up to 10000 kg.
  • Integrated geared trolley — Hand-chain operated lateral traversing along the beam — precise positioning without powered drive.
  • Three-component modular design — Motor, gearbox and chain container as separate assemblies for fast, low-cost servicing.
  • Robust rotating piston motor — Adjustable spring pressure brake holds the load secure even on air failure.
  • Oil-bath lubricated planetary gearbox — Smooth running with low overall height — minimum headroom impact.
  • Large dimension silencer — Low noise emission for noise-sensitive industrial environments.
  • Pendant control with emergency stop — Sensitive 2- or 4-button pendant for precise control under load.
  • Contamination resistant — Insusceptible to humidity, aggressive media and atmospheric contamination.

Working air pressure: 4–6 bar. All variants 109-day lead time. Geared trolley operates via hand chain at ground level — no powered traversing.

ATEX Directive 2014/34/EU | Zone 1 & Zone 21 | Basic Classification

Certified to ATEX Directive 2014/34/EU for use in Zone 1 (explosive gas atmospheres) and Zone 21 (explosive dust atmospheres). Supplied with EC Declaration of Conformity and CE marking. Basic ATEX category for surface industries.

Suitable Applications

Heavy industrial lifting in chemical plants, petrochemical refineries, offshore production platforms, process facilities, paint and solvent handling areas, and any Zone 1 or Zone 21 location requiring powered hoisting combined with accurate manual lateral positioning from a single certified unit.

Air hoists suit high duty cycles and areas where electrical equipment is unsuitable. For occasional work the manual hand chain hoist range is simpler.

How to Use the CPA ATEX Geared Trolley

  1. Verify the air supply is clean, dry and regulated to 4–6 bar before connection.
  2. Connect the air supply hose to the hoist inlet and check for leaks.
  3. Test the pendant controls for lift, lower and (where fitted) traverse operation.
  4. Attach the load hook centrally with the safety latch closed.
  5. Operate via the pendant using smooth control inputs.
  6. Isolate the air supply when the hoist is not in use.

Warning:

Always isolate and exhaust the air supply before any maintenance. Operate the geared trolley using the hand chain from ground level — do not attempt to push the trolley along the beam under load.

Safety Information

  • Confirm the ATEX zone classification of the work area matches the equipment certification before use.
  • Never exceed the rated working load limit displayed on the equipment.
  • Never use equipment that shows visible damage, wear or deformation.
  • Keep all personnel clear of the lifted load at all times.
  • Do not modify, repair or substitute components other than as specified by the manufacturer.
  • Ensure the operator is trained, competent and authorised for ATEX lifting operations.

Inspection and Maintenance

Inspect before each use — focus on all load-bearing components, welds, hooks, safety latches, chain, rope and pendant controls. Thorough examination under LOLER 1998 is required at intervals not exceeding 6 months by a competent person. Replacement parts must be genuine manufacturer items to maintain certification. Records of all inspections must be retained for the life of the equipment.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What is the difference between VTG (Geared) and VFT (Air Driven) trolley variants?

VTG = manual geared traversing — the operator turns a hand chain to drive the trolley along the beam with mechanical advantage. VFT = powered air traversing — pendant-controlled compressed-air drive moves the trolley automatically. VTG is the lower-cost option for occasional lateral positioning; VFT is preferred for high-cycle production work where powered movement is needed.

Q: Why is the lead time 109 days?

The CPA/VTG ATEX is a specialist build-to-order product manufactured to specific air supply and beam-flange requirements. The 109-day lead time reflects the engineering and testing involved in ATEX certification of the complete assembly.

Q: What working air pressure is needed?

4 to 6 bar at the hoist inlet, supplied through clean, dry, filtered air via a filter-regulator-lubricator unit.
