ATEX

What ATEX equipment is for

Where flammable gas, vapour or dust can be present, ordinary equipment can provide the ignition source. ATEX-rated equipment is built so it cannot — through spark-resistant materials, controlled surface temperatures and sealed construction. It is specified by the zone it will work in, not by the job it does.

Know your zone before you specify

Zones describe how often an explosive atmosphere is present and whether the hazard is gas or dust. Equipment is certified for particular zones and groups, so the site's hazardous area classification decides what you can use. If nobody can tell you the zone, that is the question to resolve first — it is not something to assume from the type of site.

The whole assembly counts

Rating the hoist and then hanging it from an uncertified trolley or using a standard chain sling defeats the point. Every item that goes into the hazardous area needs to be suitable, including slings, shackles and any powered accessory.

Common questions
How do I know which rating I need?

From the site's hazardous area classification, which sets the zone and whether the risk is gas or dust. Ask the site or the responsible person for it rather than working it out from the type of premises.

Can I use standard lifting gear with ATEX equipment?

Not inside the hazardous area. Every item entering the zone needs to be suitable, including slings, shackles and trolleys, or the protection is lost.

Is ATEX equipment used differently day to day?

The lifting technique is the same, but the equipment must not be modified, repaired with non-original parts, or used outside the conditions it was certified for.

What types of ATEX are available?

Delivery Information

From our depot to your site, every order is fully tracked and delivered on our own WOLFF Onsite vehicles or via trusted courier partners. Delivery costs are calculated based on your postcode and order size.

Pallet Delivery
Dispatched within 1–2 working days, delivered next working day between 8am–5pm, Monday to Friday. Delivery cost is based on the number of pallet spaces and your delivery zone.

Parcel Delivery
Smaller items like radio accessories and safety equipment ship via tracked courier at a flat rate. Deliveries between 8:30am–5pm, Monday to Friday.

RENTAL Delivery / Collection
All rentals are delivered and collected by the WOLFF Onsite team. We'll confirm a delivery time that works for you and arrange collection within 3 working days of your hire end date. Deliveries and collections between 8am–5pm, Monday to Friday, Saturday collections can be arranged if suitable.

Dispatch Times
Orders placed by 1pm are dispatched same day where possible. Some products carry a manufacturing lead time, this is always stated in the product description.
