Yale HTG Manual Geared Trolley

Model HTG | Capacity 500 kg โ€“ 50,000 kg | Hand-Chain Geared Drive | Size A & B Beam Variants | DIN 1025-1 | German Engineered

The Yale HTG is a manually-operated geared trolley driven by a hand chain that turns a worm-and-spur gear train connected to the trolley wheels. The geared drive gives significant mechanical advantage compared to pushing the trolley by hand, making the HTG the right choice for heavier loads, longer travel distances and frequent use. Like the HTP, the HTG is built around machined steel wheels on prelubricated encapsulated ball bearings and adjusts to fit standard INP, IPE and IPB beam profiles. The capacity range spans an exceptionally wide envelope from 500 kg up to 50,000 kg โ€” the 30 t and 50 t variants are recent series extensions for heavy industrial use.

CE & UKCA Marked | DIN 1025-1 Compatible | LOLER Ready

Yale is part of the Columbus McKinnon group, one of the world's largest manufacturers of motion technology and lifting equipment. CE marked (EU Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC) and UKCA marked (UK Supply of Machinery (Safety) Regulations 2008). Supplied with Declaration of Conformity. LOLER 1998 thorough examinations required every 12 months by a competent person.

Weights quoted without hand chain. From 8,000 kg upwards traverse is adjusted via sleeves and washers (rather than clevis bar rotation).

Key Features

  • Hand-chain geared drive: Worm-and-spur gear train converts hand-chain pull into trolley motion โ€” much lower operator effort than HTP push.
  • Excellent rolling performance: Machined steel wheels on prelubricated encapsulated ball bearings.
  • Wide beam compatibility: Fits INP, IPE, IPB profiles to DIN 1025-1.
  • Centred hoist suspension (up to 5,000 kg): Clevis adjustment eliminates left/right creep under load.
  • High-capacity series extension to 50,000 kg: HTG 30000 and HTG 50000 extend Yale's manual trolley platform up to 50 t.
  • Optional rotating hand-chain guide, stainless steel hand chain, locking device, rubber buffers, high-temp bearings.

Suitable Applications

The Yale HTG geared trolley is the workhorse of monorail and overhead-beam load positioning in heavy industry โ€” foundry and steel works, shipyards and dry docks, heavy machinery installation, structural steel erection, power generation maintenance. Above 2,000 kg the geared drive saves the operator significant manual effort versus push.

How to Use the Yale HTG

  1. Confirm beam compatibility: Check flange width and thickness.
  2. Adjust to beam: Rotate clevis bar (up to 5,000 kg) or fit sleeves and washers (8,000 kg+).
  3. Install end stops: Fit beam end stops at both ends.
  4. Attach hoist: Suspend lifting equipment from trolley clevis. Engage safety latches.
  5. Inspect: Check wheels, hand chain, gearing, body.
  6. Travel: Pull hand chain in direction of travel. Geared drive moves the trolley.

Warning: Yale hoists and trolleys are not designed for passenger elevation applications and must not be used for this purpose. Always install beam end stops before use. Never exceed the Working Load Limit or the maximum 14% beam profile incline.

Safety Information

  • Always inspect the trolley before each use โ€” wheels, clevis bar, body, hand chain (where applicable).
  • Never exceed the Working Load Limit stamped on the trolley.
  • Confirm beam flange width and thickness are within rated range for your trolley size.
  • Always install beam end stops at both ends of the travel range.
  • Do not exceed the 14% maximum beam profile incline (DIN 1025-1).
  • Never use the trolley to lift, lower or transport persons.
  • LOLER 1998 thorough examination required every 12 months by a competent person.

Inspection and Maintenance

The HTG requires periodic inspection of wheels, gearing, hand chain, and bearings. Encapsulated ball bearings need no routine relubrication. Hand-chain wear must be measured against discard limits in the Operating Manual. WOLFF Onsite provides LOLER inspection, spare parts and overhaul for all HTG capacities including the 30 t and 50 t models.

Optional Accessories

  • Rotating hand-chain guide: Up to 20,000 kg. Lets operator stand clear of the load.
  • Stainless steel hand chain: For corrosive and marine environments.
  • Locking device: Park-position security.
  • Rubber buffers: End-of-travel impact protection.
  • High-temperature bearings: Up to 350ยฐC with capacity derating.
  • Yale HTG ATEX: Explosion-protected zones โ€” BASIC and HIGH grades.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How does the HTG differ from a chain block?

The HTG is a trolley โ€” it moves a hoist horizontally along an overhead beam. A chain block lifts vertically. Most applications use both: a chain hoist suspended from an HTG trolley. Pair the HTG with a Yalelift 360, VSIII or similar Yale chain hoist for a complete monorail system.

Q: When should I use HTP push instead of HTG geared?

Use HTP push when the load is light (under 2,000 kg), travel distances are short, and the operator is in direct contact with the load. Use HTG geared when loads are heavier than 2,000 kg or where the lower-effort hand-chain drive is worthwhile.

Q: What's the heaviest beam-traverse capacity Yale offers?

50,000 kg. The HTG 50000 (192045614) recently extended the previous 25 t ceiling. It weighs 489 kg without hand chain and needs 5.1 m minimum curve radius.

Q: Is the HTG available for explosion-protected zones?

Yes โ€” see Yale HTG ATEX, available in BASIC (Zone 2/22) and HIGH (Zone 1/21) grades. The HIGH grade uses solid bronze wheels for spark suppression. ATEX HTG covers 500 kg to 20,000 kg.

Q: How is the trolley adjusted to the beam?

Up to 5,000 kg, by rotating the clevis load bar (which also auto-centres the hoist). From 8,000 kg upwards, via sleeves and washers โ€” a more robust method for heavy capacities.
