Yale YL ITP ATEX Hand Chain Hoist with Integrated Push Trolley

Model YL ITP ATEX | Capacity 500 kg to 2,000 kg | ATEX II 2 GD C IIC T4 | Zone 1 / Zone 21 | Push Travel | Spark-Resistant Bronze Wheels

The Yale YL ITP ATEX is the explosion-protected variant of the YL ITP push-travel trolley, certified for use in Zone 1 (gas) and Zone 21 (dust) atmospheres under EU Directive 2014/34/EU. Built on the proven YL ITP chassis, the ATEX version adds solid bronze trolley wheels (preventing spark generation through wheel-to-beam contact), copper-coated suspension and load hooks (MEDIUM design), and the MKS micro corrosion protection system on the housing and components. The integrated hoist component is the Yalelift 360 ATEX with its patented 360ยฐ rotating hand chain guide. Standard rubber buffers are fitted to the trolley side plates to control end-of-beam contact without spark generation. The YL ITP ATEX is available in three design levels (LOW, MEDIUM, HIGH) with HIGH design also adding stainless steel load chain and supplied with reduced capacities.

Key Features

  • ATEX II 2 GD C IIC T4 certified: Suitable for Zone 1 gas and Zone 21 dust atmospheres, gas group IIC, maximum surface temperature 135 ยฐC.
  • MKS micro corrosion protection system: Two-coat treatment combining Delta-Protektยฎ KL100 basecoat (zinc/aluminium flake cathodic protection) and Delta Sealยฎ topcoat (chemical-resistant microcrystalline finish).
  • Copper-coated suspension and load hooks (MEDIUM design): Soft copper coating prevents spark generation if hooks contact ferrous structures.
  • Solid bronze trolley wheels (MEDIUM and HIGH design): Non-sparking bronze wheel construction for safe operation in explosive atmospheres.
  • Stainless steel load chain (HIGH design): Optional upgrade for the most aggressive ATEX environments. HIGH design models supplied with reduced capacities.
  • Rubber buffers as standard: ATEX trolleys include rubber buffers to control end-of-beam contact without spark generation.
  • Compliant with EU Directives 2014/34/EU and 99/92/EC: Full ATEX compliance for European explosive atmosphere applications.
  • Push travel: Operator pushes the load along the beam by hand. Simple, lightweight, no trolley hand chain required.
  • Patented 360ยฐ rotating hand chain guide: Inherited from the standard YL ITP, operator can apply force from any angle, keeping clear of the load path.
  • Easily converted to YL LHP ATEX (low headroom): Field upgrade available for applications requiring even smaller closed headroom.

Suitable Applications

The Yalelift YL ITP ATEX is designed for industries where combustible gases, vapours, dusts, or mists may create explosive atmospheres. Typical applications include: oil and gas (refineries, drilling, offshore platforms); chemical processing; pharmaceutical manufacturing; paint and coating shops; waste management and treatment; food processing (grain, sugar, flour dust); agricultural biogas plants; wood and metal processing; recycling; and gas distribution. The MKS coating system additionally protects against corrosion in offshore, marine, and aggressive chemical atmospheres. Use the push variant where ease of operation and price matter most.

How to Use the Yale YL ITP ATEX Hand Chain Hoist with Integrated Push Trolley

  1. Verify the ATEX zone classification: Confirm the trolley's ATEX marking (II 2 GD C IIC T4) is suitable for the zone, gas group, and temperature class of the work area.
  2. Verify beam compatibility: Confirm beam flange width, thickness, and curve radius are within the trolley's rated range.
  3. Adjust the trolley side plates: Adjust to match the beam flange using the supplied adjusting nuts.
  4. Fit the trolley to the beam: Open, position over the beam, close and tighten adjusting nuts to specified torque.
  5. Verify anti-drop, anti-tilt, and rubber buffer operation: All safety devices must engage correctly. Rubber buffers must be intact, free from chemical attack damage.
  6. Pre-use inspection: Visual check of load chain, hooks (copper coating intact), housing (MKS coating intact), hand chain, trolley wheels (bronze, intact), beam contact area, rubber buffers.
  7. Engage the load and lift: Use ATEX-rated lifting accessories. Lift using the hoist hand chain.
  8. Traverse by pushing: Push the load along the beam manually. Avoid impact with end stops or beam discontinuities.
  9. Position and restrain: Push trolleys do not hold position automatically. Physically restrain at the stopping position or use a beam locking device.

Warning: Yale hoists and trolleys are not designed for passenger elevation applications and must not be used for this purpose. Never use the trolley in zones, gas groups, or temperature classes exceeding the ATEX marking. Never repaint, recoat, or modify any part of the trolley without manufacturer approval, as this may invalidate ATEX certification.

Safety Information

  • Verify beam flange width and thickness are within the trolley's rated range before each use.
  • Verify the supporting beam structure is rated for the combined hoist plus full WLL load.
  • Confirm anti-drop bolts and anti-tilt devices are present and operational before lifting.
  • Never exceed the Working Load Limit stamped on the hoist body.
  • Beam end stops must be fitted at both ends of the travel range to prevent trolley runoff.
  • Never side-pull or angle-pull the load at the suspension point.
  • Keep all personnel clear of the load travel path.
  • Ensure adequate headroom for the loaded hoist plus chain travel.
  • Remove from service immediately if chain elongation exceeds the discard criteria in the Operating Instructions.
  • LOLER 1998 thorough examination required every 12 months by a competent person.
  • Verify the ATEX marking matches or exceeds the zone classification of the work area before each use.
  • Use only ATEX-rated lifting accessories appropriate to the zone classification.
  • Visual inspection must include the integrity of MKS coating, copper hook coating, and bronze trolley wheels.
  • Push trolleys do not hold position automatically. Physically restrain at the stopping position.
  • Damaged coating must be assessed by a competent person, repair may require manufacturer authorisation to maintain ATEX certification.

Inspection and Maintenance

The YL ITP ATEX requires the same routine maintenance as the standard YL ITP, with additional attention to coating integrity, bronze wheel wear, and rubber buffer condition. Lubricate the load chain regularly with an ATEX-compatible lubricant suitable for Grade T alloy chain (standard) or stainless steel chain (HIGH design). The MKS coating must be visually inspected at each LOLER examination, any chip or scratch must be assessed by a competent person. Damaged coating may require manufacturer repair to maintain ATEX certification. WOLFF Onsite provides full ATEX-compliant inspection, spare parts, and overhaul services.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Why are all three ITP ATEX capacities the same weight?

The published 27 kg figure reflects a standardised reference weight for the trolley plus hoist assembly in the lower capacity range. Actual weights will vary slightly between 500 kg, 1,000 kg, and 2,000 kg, primarily due to chain mass differences (the same trolley chassis is used across the range). Contact us for exact net weight at your specified HOL.

Q: Why is the YL ITP ATEX only available up to 2,000 kg?

Above 2,000 kg the geared variant (YL ITG ATEX) is preferred for ATEX applications, as the geared mechanism gives more precise control and eliminates the risk of trolley creep, which is more critical when handling heavier loads in hazardous environments. Higher capacity ATEX push trolleys are available as special order, contact us.

Q: Can the YL ITP be retrofitted to ATEX specification?

No, ATEX certification is given to the trolley as a complete assembly at manufacture, including the specific materials, coatings, and components (bronze wheels, copper hooks, MKS coating). You cannot field-convert a standard YL ITP to ATEX.

Q: What's the temperature class T4 mean in practice?

T4 means the maximum surface temperature of the equipment in operation will not exceed 135 ยฐC. This makes the trolley suitable for any explosive atmosphere where the ignition temperature is above 135 ยฐC, which covers the vast majority of industrial gases and dusts. Check your site's hazardous area classification for the specific temperature class requirement.

Q: Can I use rubber buffers in a high-temperature ATEX zone?

Standard rubber buffers are suitable for the T4 temperature class (up to 135 ยฐC). For higher-temperature ATEX zones (T3 = 200 ยฐC or above), specialist buffer materials are required, contact us to specify.

Q: How often does the ATEX trolley need inspection?

LOLER 1998 (UK) requires thorough examination every 12 months by a competent person. The ATEX examination additionally verifies coating integrity (MKS micro corrosion protection), hook coating, bronze trolley wheel condition, and rubber buffer condition. Damaged components must be assessed and may require manufacturer repair to maintain ATEX certification.
