Yale Steel Snap Hook 18mm CMHAZ011

Model CMHAZ011 | 18mm Steel Snap Hook | Screw Gate or Twist Lock | EN 362 Compliant | CMCO Group Manufacture

The Yale CMHAZ011 Steel Snap Hook is a heavy-duty 18 mm forged steel connector for height safety applications, connecting harnesses, lanyards, blocks and anchors as part of a complete height safety system. Two gate locking mechanisms are available โ€” manual screw gate or self-acting twist lock โ€” to suit different working preferences and authorisation procedures, both EN 362 compliant and rated to a minimum strength of 22 kN. Manufactured by Columbus McKinnon under the Yale brand, supplied with a test certificate.

Key Features

  • 18 mm gate opening โ€” accepts standard harness D-rings, anchor eyes, and lanyard terminations
  • Forged steel construction โ€” minimum strength 22 kN along the major axis
  • Two locking options โ€” screw gate for fully manual control, twist lock for self-acting locking with audible confirmation
  • EN 362 Class B compliant โ€” rated as a basic connector for personal fall protection
  • Heavy-duty for daily use โ€” designed for trade-grade professional use
  • Compatible with all Yale harnesses and lanyards โ€” standard interface across the Yale height safety range
  • Supplied with test certificate โ€” ready for use as part of a fall protection system

Technical Specifications

Model Part Number Gate Type Gate Opening Standard
CMHAZ011 N4300006118 Screw gate (manual) 18 mm BS EN 362 Class B
CMHAZ011t N4300006119 Twist lock (self-acting) 18 mm BS EN 362 Class B

Both variants forged steel construction, minimum strength 22 kN along the major axis. Screw gate requires manual locking; twist lock locks automatically when released.

CMCO Group | EN ISO 9001 Certified | EN 362 Compliant | CE Marked

This product is manufactured by Columbus McKinnon under the Yale lifting brand to EN ISO 9001 quality management standards. Compliant with BS EN 362 for personal fall protection connectors, Class B (basic connectors). Supplied with a manufacturer's test certificate and CE Declaration of Conformity. More About This Product

The Yale CMHAZ011 Steel Snap Hook is a heavy-duty 18 mm forged steel connector for height safety applications. Two gate locking mechanisms are available โ€” manual screw gate or self-acting twist lock โ€” to suit different working preferences and authorisation procedures. Both variants are EN 362 compliant and rated to a minimum strength of 22 kN. Use to connect harnesses, lanyards, blocks, and anchors as part of a complete height safety system. Manufactured by Columbus McKinnon under the Yale lifting brand, supplied with a manufacturer's test certificate.

Suitable Applications

Used to connect harnesses, lanyards, fall arrest blocks, and anchor points as part of a complete height safety system. Screw gate variant preferred where positive manual locking is required by the working procedure; twist lock variant preferred for speed of use and self-acting locking.

How to Use the Steel Snap Hook

  1. Inspect the connector before each use โ€” body for distortion or cracks, gate for free operation, locking mechanism for correct function.
  2. For the screw gate variant: open the gate, position the connector around the attachment point, close the gate, manually screw the locking sleeve down until fully tight.
  3. For the twist lock variant: open the gate, position the connector around the attachment point, release the gate โ€” the spring-loaded sleeve will automatically lock.
  4. Verify the gate is fully closed and locked before applying load.
  5. Verify the connector is loaded along the major axis โ€” never side-loaded or three-way loaded.
  6. After use, inspect for damage before storing.

Warning:
Always verify the gate is fully closed and locked before applying load. Never load the connector across the gate (minor axis) โ€” strength is reduced to a fraction of the major axis rating. Never use a connector that has arrested a fall without competent person inspection.

Safety Information

  • Always inspect the connector visually and by hand before each use.
  • Verify the gate operates freely and locks fully closed.
  • Verify no distortion, cracking, or wear on the body, gate, or pivot.
  • Withdraw from service if any damage or excessive wear is found.
  • Always load along the main axis โ€” side-loading or three-way loading drastically reduces strength.
  • Never modify or attempt to repair the connector.
  • Match the connector to the rated strength of the system it connects.

Inspection and Maintenance

Inspect for distortion, cracks, gate function, and wear before each use. Clean using warm water and mild detergent only. Air-dry. Lubricate the gate spring sparingly with a light dry lubricant if the gate becomes stiff. Store in a clean, dry place away from corrosive chemicals. Thorough examination by a competent person every 6 months. Service life depends on use intensity โ€” withdraw immediately if any damage is found.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What is the difference between screw gate and twist lock?

Screw gate requires the operator to manually screw a locking sleeve down after the gate closes โ€” full manual control, slower to operate, no risk of unlocking under vibration. Twist lock is self-acting โ€” the spring-loaded sleeve locks automatically when the gate closes, faster to use, audible click confirmation.

Q: Which type should I choose?

Choose screw gate where the working procedure requires positive manual locking, or where the connection will not be changed frequently. Choose twist lock for speed and where the connection will be made and broken frequently. Both are EN 362 compliant and rated to 22 kN.

Q: Is the 18mm gate opening enough?

The 18 mm gate accepts standard harness D-rings, anchor eyes, and most lanyard terminations. For larger interfaces (such as scaffold tubes), use a scaffold hook variant of the lanyard instead.

Q: What is the strength rating?

Minimum 22 kN along the major axis. Significantly less across the minor axis (across the gate) or three-way loading โ€” always orient the connector for major-axis loading.

Q: How does it differ from a karabiner used for climbing?

Industrial fall protection connectors are certified to different standards (EN 362) from climbing karabiners (EN 12275). Always use connectors certified to the appropriate standard for the working task โ€” fall protection connectors for industrial work, climbing karabiners for climbing.

Q: Can I use the snap hook to connect two lanyards together?

Generally not recommended. Three-way loading (with two lanyards plus the harness) reduces connector strength significantly. Use the manufacturer-specified connection configuration.

Q: How often must the connector be inspected?

Pre-use inspection by the operator, thorough examination by a competent person every 6 months.
