The Yale VHP and VHH range comprises manually-operated hydraulic directional valves rated for 700 bar maximum operating pressure. The valves control oil flow in combination with hydraulic power packs (the VHH-4/3 specifically with hand pumps). All valves have three lever positions: advance (left), neutral/pressureless circuit (middle), and retract (right).

Manual directional control for Yale 700 bar hydraulic systems

Yale documentation explains that in the middle position (hold), the piston of the cylinder stops and the oil flow is guided in a circuit back to the reservoir (P to T). Valves can be flanged directly onto power packs or remote-connected via hydraulic piping. All valves are equipped with a second pressure oil port P at the back of the valve base for connection of a pressure gauge and pressure relief valve (e.g. VPR-1). The oil port T should always be connected to the reservoir without any back pressure.

Suitable Applications

Per Yale: combination with hydraulic power packs and (for VHH-4/3) with hand pumps. The VHH-4/3 has a special small design for direct mounting to all HPS hand pumps using connecting set FY-703.

Valves must share the system pressure rating with the pump and cylinder — the circuit is limited by its lowest-rated component.

Key Features

  • 3 Lever Positions: advance, neutral (pressureless circuit), retract.
  • 700 bar Working Pressure: Yale standard high-pressure rating.
  • 3/3-Way or 4/3-Way Variants: 3/3 for single-acting; 4/3 for double-acting.
  • Open-Centre or Closed-Centre Options: open-centre standard; closed-centre for specific multiple valve configurations.
  • Two Sizes: Size 1 for smaller power packs (8-16 l/min); Size 2 for larger (20-40 l/min).
  • Special VHH-4/3 Design for Hand Pumps: small design for direct HPS mounting via FY-703 connecting set.
  • Second Pressure Oil Port at Back: for pressure gauge and relief valve connection.
  • 3/8 NPT Oil Ports (1/4 NPT on VHH-4/3): Yale standard interfaces.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Open-centre vs closed-centre - which?

Yale specifies open-centre as the standard for general power pack applications - in neutral, oil returns pressureless to reservoir. Closed-centre is for specific multiple valve configurations where each valve must hold pressure independently in neutral. For single-valve installations, use open-centre.

Q: Size 1 vs Size 2?

Size 1 is 8-16 l/min (for smaller power packs); Size 2 is 20-40 l/min (for larger power packs). Match valve size to your pump's output flow.

Q: How does VHH-4/3 differ from VHP-4/3?

The VHH-4/3 has a special small design for direct mounting to all HPS hand pumps using the FY-703 connecting set. Flow capacity is 2-3 l/min - matched to hand pump output. The VHP-4/3 is the larger power-pack valve.

Q: What's the pressure gauge port at the back?

Yale documents the second pressure oil port P at the back of all VHP/VHH valves. Can be used to connect a pressure gauge and/or pressure relief valve (e.g. VPR-1). The T port should always be connected to reservoir without back pressure.
