The Yale VPS-1 is an adjustable pressure switch with control range from 100 to 800 bar, providing an electrical micro-switch output (alternating contact) when pressure reaches a set value. Yale designs the VPS for automatic pressure limiting, pressure value reporting, and as an automatic motor on/off switch within pressure-guard power packs.

Electrical switching from hydraulic pressure

Yale documentation lists three primary VPS applications: automatic pressure limiting (cuts power when pressure exceeds set value), reporting of a certain pressure value (to PLC or alarm), and automatic motor on/off switching with pressure-guard power packs. As soon as the pressure has reached the set value, the micro-switch is activated. Should the pressure drop, the micro-switch starts the pump again to rebuild pressure. The repeat accuracy is 10 bar.

Suitable Applications

Per Yale: automatic pressure limiting, pressure-value reporting to control systems, and automatic motor on/off switching for Yale pressure-guard power packs. The pressure-guard application is particularly useful where load pressure must be maintained over very long periods.

Valves must share the system pressure rating with the pump and cylinder — the circuit is limited by its lowest-rated component.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Switch point difference vs repeat accuracy?

Yale specifies switch point difference as 25-70 bar - the hysteresis between switch-on and switch-off pressures. Repeat accuracy is 10 bar - consistency of the switch point across successive operations.

Q: What's pressure-guard operation?

Yale documents the VPS use with pressure-guard power packs: as soon as pressure reaches the set value, the micro-switch is activated. Should pressure drop, the micro-switch starts the pump again to rebuild pressure - enabling automatic load-pressure maintenance.
