Yale YL ITG Hand Chain Hoist with Integrated Geared Trolley

Model YL ITG | Capacity 500 kg to 20,000 kg | Hand-Geared Travel | 360ยฐ Rotating Hand Chain Guide | CE & UKCA Marked

The Yale YL ITG combines the Yalelift 360 hand chain hoist with a manual hand-geared travel trolley as a single integrated unit. The geared mechanism gives the operator precise control over trolley position along the beam, and crucially holds the trolley position when the hand chain is released, eliminating the risk of unintended trolley movement on sloping beams or when the load is left unattended. The patented 360ยฐ rotating hand chain guide on the hoist component allows lifting force to be applied from any direction. The YL ITG covers capacities from 500 kg up to a substantial 20,000 kg, with Size A (50 to 180 mm beam flange) standard for capacities up to 3,000 kg, and Size B used for the 10,000 kg and 20,000 kg variants. All capacities up to 3,000 kg use single chain fall for the lowest possible closed headroom.

CE & UKCA Marked | EN 13157 Compliant | LOLER Ready

Yale is a registered trademark of Columbus McKinnon Industrial Products, one of the world's largest and most recognised manufacturers of hand chain hoists. This product is CE marked (EU Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC) and UKCA marked (UK Supply of Machinery (Safety) Regulations 2008), manufactured to EN 13157 (Cranes โ€“ Safety โ€“ Hand-Operated Cranes) and ASME B30.16, and is supplied with a Declaration of Conformity and proof test certificate. Specifications quoted are for standard 3 m Height of Lift. The 20,000 kg model dimensions are available on request, given the bespoke nature of 20-tonne installations. Size B beam range adds approximately 1 to 4 kg to weights at lower capacities. The hoist component shares all specifications with the standalone Yalelift 360, including the requirement for two operators on the hand chain at 20,000 kg WLL.

Key Features

  • Integrated Yalelift 360 hoist: Built around the Yale Yalelift 360 hand chain hoist with its patented 360ยฐ rotating hand chain guide, allowing operation from any angle.
  • Approved stepless adjustment system: Trolley fits a wide range of beam profiles (e.g. INP, IPE, IPB) via adjusting nuts, enabling quick and simple installation by a competent person.
  • Two beam size ranges: Size A fits beam flange widths up to 180 mm (covers approximately 80% of applications); Size B fits 180 to 300 mm and is available on request.
  • Anti-drop and anti-tilt devices as standard: Built-in safety features prevent the trolley from dropping off or tipping during operation.
  • Encapsulated, pre-lubricated ball bearings: Wheels run on sealed ball bearings for excellent rolling characteristics and minimal maintenance.
  • 14% maximum beam profile incline: Trolley wheels rated for beam profiles to DIN 1025-1, supporting standard structural steelwork.
  • Reduced minimum headroom on smaller capacities: All units up to 3,000 kg are built with single chain fall, giving the lowest possible Dim. A headroom for low-ceiling applications.
  • Drop-forged load and suspension hooks: High tensile steel hooks rotate 360ยฐ, fitted with robust safety latches, yield under overload rather than breaking.
  • Easily reconfigured: The base Yalelift 360 hoist can be modified between standalone, integrated push (ITP), integrated geared (ITG), and low-headroom (LHP, LHG) configurations.
  • Hand-chain geared travel: Operator pulls the trolley hand chain to drive the trolley along the beam, with precise and controlled positioning.
  • Holds position without creep: Geared mechanism holds the trolley in place when the hand chain is released, including on sloping beams. Eliminates the risk of unintended trolley movement.
  • Heavy capacity range: Available up to 20,000 kg, sharing the Yalelift 360 hoist body and 360ยฐ rotating hand chain guide.

Suitable Applications

The Yalelift integrated trolley range covers all manual beam-travel lifting applications. Typical uses include plant and equipment installation, machinery maintenance, structural steel erection, assembly line transfer, mould and die handling, and any application where a load needs to be lifted and then moved along a beam. Compatible with standard structural steelwork including INP, IPE, IPB and similar I-beam profiles per DIN 1025-1. For low-headroom applications, see the Yalelift LH range. For explosion-protected environments, see the corresponding ATEX variant. The geared variant is preferred where precise positioning is needed (e.g. machinery alignment), where the beam is sloping, or where the load may need to be left in position without operator attention.

How to Use the Yale YL ITG Hand Chain Hoist with Integrated Geared Trolley

  1. Verify beam compatibility: Confirm the beam flange width and thickness are within the trolley's rated range. Verify the beam is rated for the combined hoist plus load weight.
  2. Adjust the trolley side plates: Adjust the side plate width to match the beam flange using the supplied adjusting nuts. Refer to the Operating Manual for the correct tolerance.
  3. Fit the trolley to the beam: Open the trolley, position over the beam, close and tighten the adjusting nuts to the specified torque.
  4. Verify anti-drop and anti-tilt operation: Anti-drop bolts and anti-tilt devices must engage correctly and freely. Do not use if either device is damaged or missing.
  5. Mount the integrated hoist: The hoist is permanently integrated with the trolley. Verify suspension hook safety latch is engaged.
  6. Inspect before each use: Visual check of load chain, hooks, safety latches, hand chain, trolley wheels, beam contact area, and beam end stops.
  7. Engage the load and lift: Attach the load to the bottom hook using suitable lifting accessories. Lift using the hoist hand chain.
  8. Traverse the beam: For push trolleys, push the load manually along the beam. For geared trolleys, pull the trolley hand chain to drive the trolley along the beam.
  9. Position precisely: Geared trolleys hold position when the hand chain is released (gear-driven, will not creep). Push trolleys must be physically restrained at the stopping position.

Warning: Yale hoists and trolleys are not designed for passenger elevation applications and must not be used for this purpose. The YL ITG 20,000 kg model requires two operators on the hoist hand chain at WLL.

Safety Information

  • Verify beam flange width and thickness are within the trolley's rated range before each use.
  • Verify the supporting beam structure is rated for the combined hoist plus full WLL load.
  • Confirm anti-drop bolts and anti-tilt devices are present and operational before lifting.
  • Never exceed the Working Load Limit stamped on the hoist body.
  • Beam end stops must be fitted at both ends of the travel range to prevent trolley runoff.
  • Never side-pull or angle-pull the load at the suspension point.
  • Keep all personnel clear of the load travel path.
  • Ensure adequate headroom for the loaded hoist plus chain travel.
  • Remove from service immediately if chain elongation exceeds the discard criteria in the Operating Instructions.
  • LOLER 1998 thorough examination required every 12 months by a competent person.
  • The YL ITG 20,000 kg requires two operators on the hoist hand chain at full load.
  • Verify beam curve radius is within the trolley's rated minimum, particularly for higher capacities.

Inspection and Maintenance

The YL ITG requires minimal routine maintenance. Lubricate the load chain and the trolley drive gearing regularly. Trolley wheel bearings are pre-lubricated and encapsulated. Verify adjusting nut torque periodically. Check anti-drop bolts and anti-tilt device operation at each LOLER examination. The trolley hand chain should also be inspected for wear and stretch. WOLFF Onsite provides full LOLER inspection, spare parts, and overhaul services.

Optional Accessories

  • Adjustable overload protection device: Factory-fitted slip-clutch overload limiter on the hoist.
  • Chain container: Metal HCH container or fabric chain bag sized to match each capacity.
  • Rubber buffers: Optional rubber buffers fitted to the trolley side plates.
  • Corrosion-resistant version: Enhanced surface protection for marine and offshore applications.
  • Beam locking device: Secures the unloaded trolley in a fixed position on the beam.
  • Size B beam range: 180 to 300 mm beam flange range available on request for capacities up to 3,000 kg (Size B is standard for 10,000 kg and 20,000 kg).
  • Extended Height of Lift: Greater HOL than 3 m standard available on request.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Why choose the geared YL ITG over the push YL ITP?

Choose the ITG (geared) when: (1) you need precise positioning of the load along the beam (e.g. machinery alignment); (2) the beam is sloping and a push trolley would creep; (3) the load may need to be left unattended on the beam; or (4) the load is heavy enough that pushing by hand becomes impractical. The ITP (push) is simpler, lighter, and lower-cost but requires the operator to physically restrain the trolley at the stopping position.

Q: How much hand chain pull is needed to traverse the geared trolley?

The hand chain pull to drive the trolley depends on capacity and beam incline. For typical horizontal beams, the trolley hand chain pull is significantly lower than the hoist hand chain pull, making it manageable for one operator at all capacities up to 10,000 kg. For 20,000 kg trolleys on long traverses, two operators may be needed. Contact us for specific applications.

Q: Can the geared trolley creep down a sloping beam under load?

No, this is a key advantage of the geared variant. The gear-driven trolley locks in position when the hand chain is released and cannot creep, regardless of beam incline up to the 14% maximum. The push trolley (ITP) does not have this feature and must not be used on sloping beams.

Q: Why is the 20,000 kg minimum curve radius 9.5 m?

At 20,000 kg, the trolley wheel base is substantially wider and the load chain reeving (6 falls) creates a significant turning moment. The 9.5 m minimum curve radius reflects the geometric and mechanical limits of safe operation. For tighter curves, a smaller capacity is required or a custom-engineered solution. Contact us to discuss.

Q: What's the difference between Size A and Size B?

Size A fits beam flange widths from 50 to 180 mm (covers approximately 80% of structural steel applications). Size B fits 125 to 310 mm. The 10,000 kg and 20,000 kg models are supplied in Size B as standard because their physical size exceeds Size A's mounting envelope. For 3,000 kg and below, Size B is available on request.

Q: How often does it need LOLER inspection?

LOLER 1998 (UK) requires thorough examination by a competent person every 12 months for general lifting equipment. WOLFF Onsite provides LOLER inspection services.
