Yale YL LHG Low-Headroom Hand Chain Hoist with Integrated Geared Trolley

Model YL LHG | Capacity 500 kg to 10,000 kg | Ultra-Low Closed Headroom | Hand-Geared Travel | 360ยฐ Rotating Hand Chain Guide | CE & UKCA Marked

The Yale YL LHG combines the ultra-low-headroom LH chain reeving system with the precision of hand-geared trolley travel, giving the smallest possible closed headroom AND precise position control. The lateral chain reeving pulls the bottom hook block almost against the beam flange, while the hand-chain driven gear mechanism drives the trolley along the beam and holds position when the chain is released. The YL LHG is the specification of choice for low-clearance lifting applications requiring precise positioning, particularly in plant rooms, under crane gantries, in basement areas, between mezzanine floors, and on sloping beams where a push trolley would creep. The YL LHG range extends from 500 kg up to 10,000 kg, with Size A (60 to 210 mm beam flange) covering capacities up to 10,000 kg in standard form, and Size B available for 10,000 kg where wider beams (190 to 310 mm) are present.

CE & UKCA Marked | EN 13157 Compliant | LOLER Ready

Both share the same hoist mechanism and capacity, with only the trolley side plate adjustment range differing to suit different beam profiles. Specify which size matches your installation when ordering.

Key Features

  • Integrated Yalelift 360 hoist: Built around the Yale Yalelift 360 hand chain hoist with its patented 360ยฐ rotating hand chain guide, allowing operation from any angle.
  • Approved stepless adjustment system: Trolley fits a wide range of beam profiles (e.g. INP, IPE, IPB) via adjusting nuts, enabling quick and simple installation by a competent person.
  • Two beam size ranges: Size A fits beam flange widths up to 180 mm (covers approximately 80% of applications); Size B fits 180 to 300 mm and is available on request.
  • Anti-drop and anti-tilt devices as standard: Built-in safety features prevent the trolley from dropping off or tipping during operation.
  • Encapsulated, pre-lubricated ball bearings: Wheels run on sealed ball bearings for excellent rolling characteristics and minimal maintenance.
  • 14% maximum beam profile incline: Trolley wheels rated for beam profiles to DIN 1025-1, supporting standard structural steelwork.
  • Reduced minimum headroom on smaller capacities: All units up to 3,000 kg are built with single chain fall, giving the lowest possible Dim. A headroom for low-ceiling applications.
  • Drop-forged load and suspension hooks: High tensile steel hooks rotate 360ยฐ, fitted with robust safety latches, yield under overload rather than breaking.
  • Easily reconfigured: The base Yalelift 360 hoist can be modified between standalone, integrated push (ITP), integrated geared (ITG), and low-headroom (LHP, LHG) configurations.
  • Ultra-low closed headroom: Lateral chain reeving pulls the bottom hook block almost against the beam flange.
  • Hand-chain geared travel: Precise, controlled trolley positioning along the beam. Holds position when the chain is released.
  • No creep on sloping beams: Geared mechanism is self-locking. The trolley cannot creep down a sloping beam under load.
  • Heavy capacity range up to 10,000 kg: Maintains low-headroom design across the full range.
  • Two beam-width variants at 10,000 kg: Size A (125 to 210 mm) and Size B (190 to 310 mm) cover wider range of structural steel profiles.

Suitable Applications

The Yalelift YL LHG is engineered for the most demanding low-headroom industrial lifting. Typical applications include precision machinery installation under low ceilings, plant room equipment handling, working under existing crane gantries, basement plant rooms, mezzanine floor servicing, and any application combining tight headroom with precise positioning requirements. The geared variant is essential on sloping beams and for any application where the load may need to be held in position without operator attention.

How to Use the Yale YL LHG Low-Headroom Hand Chain Hoist with Integrated Geared Trolley

  1. Verify beam compatibility: Confirm the beam flange width and thickness are within the trolley's rated range. Verify the beam is rated for the combined hoist plus load weight.
  2. Adjust the trolley side plates: Adjust the side plate width to match the beam flange using the supplied adjusting nuts. Refer to the Operating Manual for the correct tolerance.
  3. Fit the trolley to the beam: Open the trolley, position over the beam, close and tighten the adjusting nuts to the specified torque.
  4. Verify anti-drop and anti-tilt operation: Anti-drop bolts and anti-tilt devices must engage correctly and freely. Do not use if either device is damaged or missing.
  5. Mount the integrated hoist: The hoist is permanently integrated with the trolley. Verify suspension hook safety latch is engaged.
  6. Inspect before each use: Visual check of load chain, hooks, safety latches, hand chain, trolley wheels, beam contact area, and beam end stops.
  7. Engage the load and lift: Attach the load to the bottom hook using suitable lifting accessories. Lift using the hoist hand chain.
  8. Traverse the beam: For push trolleys, push the load manually along the beam. For geared trolleys, pull the trolley hand chain to drive the trolley along the beam.
  9. Position precisely: Geared trolleys hold position when the hand chain is released (gear-driven, will not creep). Push trolleys must be physically restrained at the stopping position.

Warning: Yale hoists and trolleys are not designed for passenger elevation applications and must not be used for this purpose. Verify which 10,000 kg variant (Size A or Size B) matches your beam width before ordering.

Safety Information

  • Verify beam flange width and thickness are within the trolley's rated range before each use.
  • Verify the supporting beam structure is rated for the combined hoist plus full WLL load.
  • Confirm anti-drop bolts and anti-tilt devices are present and operational before lifting.
  • Never exceed the Working Load Limit stamped on the hoist body.
  • Beam end stops must be fitted at both ends of the travel range to prevent trolley runoff.
  • Never side-pull or angle-pull the load at the suspension point.
  • Keep all personnel clear of the load travel path.
  • Ensure adequate headroom for the loaded hoist plus chain travel.
  • Remove from service immediately if chain elongation exceeds the discard criteria in the Operating Instructions.
  • LOLER 1998 thorough examination required every 12 months by a competent person.
  • Maintain the minimum clearance between hoist body and beam flange during operation.
  • Verify the supporting beam structure is rated for the combined hoist plus full WLL load.
  • For 10,000 kg installations, verify which beam size variant (Size A or Size B) matches your structural steelwork before ordering.

Inspection and Maintenance

The YL LHG requires the same routine maintenance as the standard YL ITG, with additional attention to the LH-specific chain reeving and guide system. The lateral chain path must be checked for clean chain travel at each inspection. Lubricate the load chain and trolley drive gearing regularly. Trolley wheel bearings are pre-lubricated and encapsulated. WOLFF Onsite provides full LOLER inspection, spare parts, and overhaul services.

Optional Accessories

  • Adjustable overload protection device: Factory-fitted slip-clutch overload limiter on the hoist.
  • Chain container: Sized to match each capacity.
  • Rubber buffers: Optional rubber buffers fitted to the trolley side plates.
  • Corrosion-resistant version: Enhanced surface protection for marine and offshore applications.
  • Beam locking device: Secures the unloaded trolley in a fixed position on the beam.
  • Size B beam range: Available on request for capacities below 10,000 kg.
  • Extended Height of Lift: Greater HOL than 3 m standard available on request.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Which 10,000 kg variant should I choose, 192038865 or N05600027?

Choose 192038865 (Size A) if your beam flange is between 125 and 210 mm wide, which covers most common medium/large I-beam profiles. Choose N05600027 (Size B) if your beam flange is between 190 and 310 mm wide, typical of large structural beams in heavy industry. Both share the same hoist mechanism and 10,000 kg WLL, only the trolley side plate adjustment range differs.

Q: Why is the YL LHG range so much heavier than the YL ITG?

The LH-specific chain reeving and guide components add weight, particularly at higher capacities. For example, the LHG 2,000 kg weighs 65 kg vs 49 kg for the standard ITG 2,000 kg. The trade-off is significantly reduced closed headroom (Dim. A), which is often the determining factor for low-clearance installations.

Q: Can the LHG handle 20,000 kg like the standard ITG?

No, the maximum standard LHG capacity is 10,000 kg. The 20,000 kg requirement is met by the standard YL ITG 20,000 (with normal headroom) or by a bespoke engineered solution. Contact us if you have a 20,000 kg application requiring low headroom.

Q: Why does the minimum beam flange width increase with capacity?

The LH chain reeving system runs laterally close to the beam flange. As capacity increases, the chain and reeving components scale up, requiring a wider minimum beam flange: 60 mm at 500 kg, 70 mm at 1,000 kg, 82 mm at 2,000 kg, 100 mm at 3,000 kg, 110 mm at 5,000 kg, and 125 mm or 190 mm at 10,000 kg depending on Size A or B.

Q: Is the LHG suitable for use on sloping beams?

Yes. The geared mechanism is self-locking and prevents creep on beams up to 14% incline (DIN 1025-1). This is one of the key advantages over the push variant (LHP), which is not recommended for sloping beams.

Q: How often does it need LOLER inspection?

LOLER 1998 (UK) requires thorough examination every 12 months by a competent person.
