Camlok BA Bulb Bar Anchor

Model BA (Camlok) | Capacity 750 kg & 1,500 kg | Bulb Profile Anchor | For Ship & Engine Room Applications | Quick Screw Mechanism | Large Bow Hook Ring

The Camlok BA is a bulb bar anchor designed specifically for attachment to bulb profile beams โ€” sections found in ship compartments, engine rooms and other marine and naval architecture rather than the standard I-beam flanges of land-based construction. The BA provides a semi-permanent suspension point that can be quickly and easily attached via the integral screw mechanism. The fabricated lightweight design grips the bulb section firmly while the unique large bow hook ring at the bottom of the clamp gives easy connection for all types of lifting equipment โ€” hooks, slings, shackles, snap hooks. The BA range covers 750 kg and 1,500 kg as standard, with larger 3,000 kg and 6,000 kg variants available on request.

CE & UKCA Marked | Product Group I2 | For Bulb Profiles Only

The BA bulb bar anchor is designed specifically for bulb profile beams โ€” typically found in ship compartments and engine rooms. It is not compatible with standard I-beam, IPE, IPB, HEA or HEB profiles. CE marked and UKCA marked, Declaration of Conformity supplied. LOLER 1998 thorough examinations every 12 months.

Technical Specifications

Model Article No. WLL per Clamp (kg) Max Bulb Height (mm) Weight (kg)
BA 0.75 N4300000023 750 80 โ€“ 160 3
BA 1.5 N4300000020 1,500 160 โ€“ 240 4

WLL is per clamp. BA 3.0 (3,000 kg, bulb height 240-320 mm) and BA 6.0 (6,000 kg, bulb height 320-430 mm) also available โ€” contact us for ordering.

Key Features

  • Designed for bulb profile beams: Engineered specifically for the bulb-shaped sections found in ship compartments, engine rooms, and other marine applications.
  • Semi-permanent suspension point: Reliable suspension that can remain in place for extended periods or be quickly removed.
  • Quick screw mechanism: Single screw clamp attachment โ€” fast to fit, no specialised tooling.
  • Fabricated lightweight design: BA 0.75 at 3 kg and BA 1.5 at 4 kg โ€” easy to carry, store and deploy on board ship.
  • Large bow hook ring: Accepts hooks, slings, shackles, and snap hooks of all common sizes.
  • Firm grip on the bulb section: Designed to grip without slipping or rotating under load.
  • Family extends to 6,000 kg: Larger BA 3.0 and BA 6.0 variants available for heavier marine applications.

Suitable Applications

For any lifting or rigging application aboard ship or in marine engineering facilities where the available structural beam is a bulb profile rather than a standard I-beam. Typical applications: engine room machinery lifts, ship compartment equipment installation, naval vessel maintenance, dry-dock work, marine survey equipment hangs. Not suitable for land-based I-beam applications โ€” for those, use the Yale YC, Camlok SC92, or Yale CTP.

How to Use the Camlok BA

  1. Confirm beam profile: Verify the structural section is a bulb profile (not I-beam) and bulb height falls within the BA's range.
  2. Open the screw mechanism: Back off the screw far enough to fit clamp over the bulb section.
  3. Position the clamp: Slide onto the bulb so the clamp body sits squarely against the section.
  4. Tighten the screw firmly: Hand pressure until clamp grips the bulb section securely.
  5. Verify no movement: Pull on the bow hook ring to confirm no slip or rotation on the bulb.
  6. Attach lifting equipment: Pass hook, sling, shackle, or snap hook through the large bow hook ring.
  7. Inspect after first load: Confirm screw remains tight and clamp position has not shifted.

Warning: The BA is for bulb profile beams only. Using it on a standard I-beam, IPE, HEA or HEB section will not provide a safe grip and may result in clamp failure. Always check the bulb section is rated for the load.

Safety Information

  • Use only on bulb profile beams of suitable height (within clamp's specified range).
  • Confirm the bulb section is rated for the load before attaching the BA.
  • Never use on I-beam, IPE, IPB, HEA or HEB profiles โ€” use a different clamp.
  • Tighten the screw mechanism firmly and verify no clamp movement.
  • Never exceed the WLL stamped on the clamp body.
  • Never use to lift, lower or transport persons.
  • Inspect the bow hook ring for distortion before each use.
  • LOLER 1998 thorough examination every 12 months.

Inspection and Maintenance

Requires inspection of the screw threads, the clamp body and jaw, and the bow hook ring. In marine environments, regular freshwater wash-down and visual inspection for corrosion is essential. Distorted or corroded bow rings, damaged screw threads, or bent clamp jaws require withdrawal from service. WOLFF Onsite provides LOLER inspection for marine clamps.

Optional Accessories

  • BA 3.0 (3,000 kg): Bulb height 240-320 mm โ€” available on request.
  • BA 6.0 (6,000 kg): Bulb height 320-430 mm โ€” available on request.
  • For I-beam applications: See Yale YC, Camlok SC92 or Yale CTP product ranges.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What's a bulb profile beam?

A bulb profile is a structural steel section with a bulbous (rounded, thickened) lower edge โ€” common in ship hull framing, deck supports, and engine room structural members. Quite different from a standard I-beam, which has a flat flange. Bulb profiles are mainly found in marine engineering.

Q: Can I use the BA on a standard I-beam?

No. The BA is engineered specifically to grip the rounded underside of a bulb profile. On a flat-flange I-beam the clamp jaws will not seat correctly and the grip will be unsafe. For I-beam applications, use the Yale YC, Camlok SC92, or Yale CTP instead.

Q: How do I know which BA model fits my bulb section?

Measure the bulb height โ€” the distance from the underside of the deck plate to the top of the bulb. BA 0.75 fits 80-160 mm; BA 1.5 fits 160-240 mm. For larger bulbs, BA 3.0 (240-320 mm) or BA 6.0 (320-430 mm) variants are available on request.

Q: Is the BA available in stainless steel for marine use?

The standard BA is a fabricated steel design with corrosion-resistant finish suitable for typical marine environments. For continuous saltwater immersion or other extreme corrosive applications, contact us โ€” Camlok may offer a stainless variant on request.
