C 85 series and D 85 series both available. Overload protection slip clutch optional on capacities up to 6000 kg โ€” activated at 25% ยฑ15% overload, lifting no longer possible above this threshold. Suitable also for surface Zone 1 / Zone 21 use where Mining-grade certification exceeds the requirement.

ATEX Directive 2014/34/EU | MINING I M2 Ex h Mb | Underground Mining Certified

Certified to ATEX Directive 2014/34/EU under Equipment Group I (mining), Category M2, with Ex h Mb ignition protection by constructional safety. Suitable for underground mining environments. Supplied with EC Declaration of Conformity and CE marking.

More About This Product

The Yale C 85 and D 85 ATEX ratchet lever hoists deliver heavy-duty pulling and lifting capability across an exceptionally broad capacity range from 750 kg to 10000 kg, certified to MINING I M2 Ex h Mb classification for underground mining environments. The enclosed housing, bottom block and hand lever are manufactured from high-tensile white malleable cast iron, while the graphite cast iron load sheave has precision-machined pockets for accurate chain engagement. The standard wet-paint colour code RAL 1023 provides high visibility. Optional overload protection (slip clutch) is available on all capacities up to 6000 kg.

Suitable Applications

Underground coal mines, tunnel boring and tunnelling, subsurface construction and mining maintenance work. Also suitable for surface Zone 1 / Zone 21 applications where Mining-grade certification exceeds the requirement. Practical uses include moving and positioning heavy machines, securing heavy loads, simplifying the setting of pipes in manholes, and similar industrial pulling and lifting tasks.

How to Use the Yale C/D 85 ATEX

  1. Inspect the hoist before each use โ€” check the chain, hooks, safety latches and the ratchet lever.
  2. Confirm the rated capacity on the hoist body exceeds the load weight.
  3. Attach the top hook to a verified anchor point above the load.
  4. Engage the free-chaining device and pull the chain through to position the bottom hook.
  5. Disengage the free-chaining device and attach the bottom hook to the load.
  6. Operate the hand lever in short, smooth strokes to lift, lower or tension the load.

Warning:
The 10000 kg variant does not carry overload protection โ€” confirm the load weight is within the rated capacity before lifting. Mining-classified equipment must be de-energised if explosive atmospheres are detected; site gas-detection and equipment isolation procedures must be in place before use.

Safety Information

  • Confirm the ATEX zone classification of the work area matches the equipment certification before use.
  • Never exceed the rated working load limit displayed on the equipment.
  • Never use equipment that shows visible damage, wear or deformation.
  • Keep all personnel clear of the lifted load at all times.
  • Do not modify, repair or substitute components other than as specified by the manufacturer.
  • Ensure the operator is trained, competent and authorised for ATEX lifting operations.

Inspection and Maintenance

Inspect before each use โ€” focus on all load-bearing components, welds, hooks, safety latches, chain, rope and pendant controls. Thorough examination under LOLER 1998 is required at intervals not exceeding 6 months by a competent person. Replacement parts must be genuine manufacturer items to maintain certification. Records of all inspections must be retained for the life of the equipment.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What does MINING I M2 Ex h Mb classification mean?

This is the ATEX classification for underground mining equipment under Equipment Group I, Category M2 (de-energise on detection of explosive atmosphere), with Ex h Mb ignition protection by constructional safety. It is a more stringent classification than standard Zone 1 / Zone 21 Basic ATEX and is the required standard for underground mine equipment.

Q: What is the difference between the C 85 and D 85?

Both series share the same Mining ATEX classification and capacity coverage. The C 85 and D 85 are parallel ranges with minor design differences โ€” historically the D series carried slightly different specifications. In practice, both are widely available across the same capacity range.

Q: Can the C/D 85 ATEX be used on surface (non-mining) sites?

Yes โ€” equipment certified to Mining Category M2 exceeds the requirements of Zone 1 / Zone 21 surface ATEX, so it can be used in surface explosive-atmosphere locations. However, for surface-only applications, the UNOplus-A ATEX or Yalelift 360 ATEX are typically more cost-effective alternatives.

Q: Is the overload slip clutch standard?

No โ€” the overload slip clutch is an option, available on capacities up to 6 t. It activates at 25% ยฑ15% overload to prevent component damage. The 10 t variant cannot be fitted with the slip clutch.
