The GRW is the heavy-duty end of Pramac's mobile rental line, running from 60kVA to 300kVA on FPT engines and Leroy Somer alternators. It is a different machine from the GPW rather than a bigger one: modular parallel panels as standard so sets can be combined, an SNMP network gateway rather than a cellular one, and canopy platforms — Beta Mini, Beta Plus and Epsilon — sized to the output. Every model carries baseframe bumpers, quick-fit fuel and urea connectors and a water separator filter as standard.

Emissions Compliance

Stage V certified. Every model in this range meets the Stage V non-road mobile machinery emissions standard, which is a condition of entry on many local authority, London and principal contractor sites.

Common configuration: MPP modular parallel panel, BFB baseframe bumpers, WSP water separator filter (Racor), QFC1 quick fit fuel and urea connectors, RGW8 DSE892 SNMP gateway. The GRW 60I also carries DFS dual frequency switch (50/60Hz) and PHS pre-heating. SPKB2 socket panel: 1x400V 125A, 1x400V 63A, 3x230V 32A with individual RCD protection.

Key Features

  • Modular parallel panel as standard — sets can be run in parallel to meet a larger load or to provide redundancy, which is what separates heavy-duty rental from standard hire.
  • 60kVA to 300kVA on one platform — a fleet can be built from one family, so operators, spares and procedures carry across the range.
  • DSE892 SNMP gateway — network monitoring over SNMP, which integrates into the customer's own monitoring rather than only the hire company's.
  • Dual frequency switch on the GRW 60I — 50 or 60Hz selectable, which matters for export work and for equipment built to non-UK standards.
  • Racor water separator filter — diesel contamination is the most common cause of injector failure on hire plant; a proper separator is cheap insurance.
  • 125A and 63A three-phase outlets — the SPKB2 panel is built for genuine site distribution, with individual RCD protection on every single-phase socket.

Suitable Applications

The GRW is specified for demanding temporary power: large construction sites, industrial shutdowns, events and festivals, data centre and hospital backup during works, utilities and emergency response. The parallel capability is the reason to choose it over the GPW — two 150kVA sets in parallel give 300kVA with redundancy, where a single 300kVA set gives no fallback if it fails. For loads below 100kVA where parallel operation is not needed, the GPW range is the more economical choice.

How to Use

  1. Site the generator on firm level ground in the open air with clearance for cooling airflow and exhaust.
  2. Check engine oil and fuel levels before starting.
  3. Confirm the total connected load is within the rating, allowing headroom for motor starting currents.
  4. Start the engine and let it stabilise before applying load.
  5. Connect loads at the socket panel using correctly rated leads.
  6. Shed the load before shutting down, then stop the engine and let it cool before refuelling.

Warning: Never operate a generator indoors, in a partially enclosed space, or anywhere exhaust can reach an occupied area. Exhaust contains carbon monoxide, which is colourless, odourless and fatal.

Safety Information

  • Operate only in the open air, well clear of doors, windows and air intakes.
  • Never refuel a hot or running engine.
  • Do not connect to a building's fixed wiring without a correctly specified changeover arrangement.
  • Use only leads and connectors rated for the outlet, inspected before each use.
  • Keep fuel and flammables away from the exhaust and hot surfaces.
  • Earth the set in accordance with the site electrical arrangement.
  • Parallel operation must be commissioned by a competent engineer; incorrect synchronisation is dangerous to the sets and to anyone connected.

Inspection and Maintenance

Check oil, fuel and the air filter daily, and inspect the socket panel, leads and residual current protection before each use. Service intervals follow the engine manufacturer's schedule by running hours. Generators used as work equipment fall under PUWER, and the outlets and any supplied leads fall within the site inspection and test regime. Use the DSE892 gateway to plan servicing by running hours. Check and drain the water separator filter at every service — it is the single most valuable maintenance item on a mobile diesel fleet.

  • Modular parallel panel and baseframe bumpers
  • Racor water separator filter and quick fit fuel/urea connectors

  • Socket panel to the SPK specification for the model
  • Operator and engine documentation

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What does the modular parallel panel do?

It allows two or more sets to be synchronised and run together, sharing the load. That gives you more capacity from existing fleet, and redundancy — if one set drops out the others carry on.

Q: GPW or GRW?

GPW for standard hire up to 100kVA. GRW for heavy duty, parallel operation and outputs to 300kVA. The GRW also uses SNMP rather than cellular monitoring, which suits customers with their own network monitoring.

Q: Why FPT engines?

FPT (Fiat Powertrain) build heavy industrial and commercial vehicle engines with a wide European service network, which is what a rental fleet needs across multiple sites.

Q: What is the dual frequency switch for?

The GRW 60I can be switched between 50Hz and 60Hz. That covers export work, film and broadcast equipment built to US standards, and specialist plant.
